I've already discussed this with Betty but I haven't said it in this thread, so I'll leave my opinion here again.

Ok, Red's team has Pikachu. But Blue's team is exactly the same in GSC as in Red and Blue, not Yellow, except for the starter. They did this to avoid canonizing Blue's starter choice, but it's pretty clear his team was taken from Red and Blue.

IMO Red having Pikachu is more a reference to the anime than to Yellow. In HGSS, Pikachu's attacks are the same it uses in the Diamond and Pearl seasons of the anime. I think this reference is bad, because it weakened him. Red is the weakest Champion in the PWT, largely because of Pikachu.

Pokémon following you was created by the anime, not Yellow. The anime obviously came first. Nevertheless, it's a feature that's far more hyped than it's useful, which is why it never came back even after four games.

The Pokémon rosters in GSC are put together in a way that you can't say which game is canon. Blaine has a Magmar, which is a reference to the anime, because he didn't have it in Yellow. Other roster additions are probably anime references, too, like Misty's Golduck, but they didn't break relation to Red and Blue, because Koga still has his Muk from RB, Sabrina still has her Mr.Mime from RB and Lt. Surge has Electrode in GSC which is likely his evolved Voltorb from RB. The only one who might be a reference to Yellow is Erika, but then her team in the anime is the same and it's possible they gave her Bellossom just because Bellossom fits her better than Vileplume.

Personally I do NOT want to see Yellow remade because it's an unusual game in the series where you start with a really shitty Pokémon that loses its steam by midgame and you conveniently get all starters, which goes against the point of Pokémon in the first place, which is to encourage trading between players. True, you could give a Light Ball to Pikachu midgame to address this problem, but it's still made of paper, even after the XY defensive boost, and it stops you from getting Raichu since Ash's Pikachu stupidly doesn't want to evolve. In a 1st gen remake, I don't want to play as Ash, I want to play as myself and make my own choices, whereas Yellow kinda forces you to use Pikachu (or else you can't get Bulbasaur for example).

Also, the gym rosters in Yellow are terrible for the most part, especially for the characters who are based on the anime (Koga has three fucking Venonats FFS) and the difficulty is artificial due to overinflated enemy levels. The exceptions are Blaine, whose roster wasn't based on the anime, and Giovanni, whose Rhyhorn was replaced with the superior Persian, although GF was lucky that Persian was actually a good Pokémon in RBY (though its only asset was Slash).

Another thing from Yellow that wasn't canonized was JJM. They could've been in GSC if Yellow was the canon game, but they weren't. Also, Giovanni's Persian is only seen in Yellow, never in other games. In HGSS, he has Kangaskhan instead, which is his Pokémon from RB that they replaced with Persian in Yellow.

I will feel kind of bad for Altaria...it's Mega's unique typing won't be unique much longer if they do that. You bring up an interesting point in thinking that they will contrast the Pseudos...as XY's were both related to sandstorms (in addition to being the odd gen Megas), while as I said ORAS had both Hoenn Pseudos. If Dragonite doesn't get Dragon/Fairy or keeps it's typing then they should make Dragonite Dragon/Water and give it the ability multiscale or Drizzle (this one as it's pre-evolutions had some ability to control the weather according to dex entries).

Well, you never know, Dragon/Fairy Mega Dragonite could still end up playing differently from Mega Altaria.

Dragon/Water and Drizzle wouldn't be bad if they won't give it Fairy.

Well I don't think they retcon Wallace out of being champion if the ending of the Delta Episode is any indication (perhaps we'll see Mega Milotic in a couple of year once Delta Emerald is made...I hope...).

Unfortunately, DeltaEmerald's not getting made, especially not in a couple of years. Just ask WaterBlue and Grey. I have a feeling that it will be a very long time before we'll see Wallace as a Champion again.

Let's just hope that GF doesn't end up saving Dragonite for potential HGSS remakes...

    Now, THAT would be trolling! {D:}

I think Mega Dragonite will come in Gen 1 remakes. Possibly, Mega Hydreigon, as well.

Pokémon following you was created by the anime, not Yellow. The anime obviously came first. Nevertheless, it's a feature that's far more hyped than it's useful, which is why it never came back even after four games.

But, Yellow was the first game to have it. Big difference.

I love following Pokémon. Who cares if it doesn't have a "practical" use? It makes Pokémon seem more like "real" companions and less like emotionless data you use to fight other people with. That is a good thing.

Another thing from Yellow that wasn't canonized was JJM. They could've been in GSC if Yellow was the canon game, but they weren't.

Based on that criteria, Lorelei and Agatha aren't canon characters, as well, as last I checked, neither were seen or heard from in GSC, either. We simply have no idea what happened to Jessie and James between Gens 1 and 2, just like we don't know whether Agatha died or not.

There fixed it for you. Btw what happened that you misquoted Cerberus as if I was the one who said it?

Speaking of WaterBlue GF do have that name trademarked (btw since GF trademarked WB, Grey, and DE and we know that WB and Grey were at least considered at one point chances are they did consider making DE instead of ORAS with the DeEp being the remains of that plot). Remaking Red at this point is complicated if they are to use the starter's Megas as mascots. At this point if a Kanto re-remake is to happen they'll either have to leave out Megas in the mainstory (I bet some on here will be happy with this) and leave the mascots as they are, remake Yellow (again some cheers and some boos) with Pikachu, remake Blue as Water Blue with Mega Blastoise, or they drop the Kanto starters and Pikachu and instead remake Kanto under different names...drumroll please...Pokemon Orange and/or Pokemon Purple (along with Green they are secondary colors) with Orange being a remake of Yellow with Raichu as the mascot and less anime references, meanwhile the other one Pokemon Purple will feature Mewtwo and revolve around it...but wait Mewtwo has the same issue as Charizard-Red...Well there is another choice and that is to remake Green again and this time alongside Blue. Potential names are Pokemon VerdantleafGreen and AquaticwaterBlue (even if WaterBlue never was a thing...but hey Green wasn't a game's name outside of Japan either and yet was the name we got) kicking the overrated Charizard and giving some spot light to the two underrated Kanto starters.

Whoops, there was a glitch. Went back and fixed it.

    I have to say, it doesn't have a shot of happening, but I'd seriously howl if we got Green and Blue as a pair. Just imagine all of the Charizard fanboy tears... {XD}

(Am I the only person who never bought Red version and never cared to? Sorry, but the "kickass" dragon on the cover just wasn't enough to wow me.)

An alternate idea could be remaking Yellow and Blue as a pair. People who love Yellow's additions can play the Yellow remake, while people who hate Yellow can play the Blue remake, so everybody wins. (Wild encounters would be tweaked to be more complimentary.)

Opps. I left out the Blue and Yellow pair idea and that one has been on my mind since I first saw this thread...
Blue has it's own exclusives irc like Jynx and Mr. Mime even (basically the in game trades from RG) so there's that, also Yellow had differences from RG too didn't it? I do think they need to do something special with the Pikachu if they do remake Yellow too (or only Yellow). I want Mega Raichu as the mascot (yellow now to fit the game's name) but that's already been shreded on here so my confidence in it isn't all that great...also Cosplay Pikachu won't work...so my old idea of an abnormally strong Pikachu with stats close to Raichu seems like the best scenerio (meanwhile Raichu get's it's Mega too hehe), with Light orb it might even be better than a Mega Raichu...perhaps also reintroduce the special Pikachus and Pichus from the past. Perhaps if Johto or some kind of Celebi shrine is added we could see Notched Ear Pichu again, and someone from Hoenn could give us a Cosplay Pikachu, Shiny Pichu could be distributed, Flying Pikachu and Surfing Pikachu (if the mascot Pikachu doesn't get these) could be rare in wild finds.

Btw Kanto remakes also will present the chance for one of the best things FrLg introduced...the VS Seeker (not seen since Pt...so no matter if Kanto or Sinnoh are remade next it's bound to pop up again...)

I think Pokémon-Amie effectively replaced that. And it's easier to code, too, as they can just reuse the battle models instead of creating new sprites/models for 721 Pokémon.

I didn't like the feature because you can't choose which Pokémon follows you, it's always the leading one.

Based on that criteria, Lorelei and Agatha aren't canon characters, as well, as last I checked, neither were seen or heard from in GSC, either. We simply have no idea what happened to Jessie and James between Gens 1 and 2, just like we don't know whether Agatha died or not.

But Team Rocket was in GSC. If they rebuilt Team Rocket in GSC, what would stop GF from including JJM? Besides, FRLG explained what happened to Team Rocket in-between the 1st and 2nd gens, and also why Lorelei wasn't in the new League. Yes, you don't like the way they did it, but it's canon.

Actually, speaking of Lorelei, they didn't really write her off from what I could read in the text. So it's still unexplained why she left the League, as she does return for the E4 second wave. At least she got it better than Agatha, who was never even seen out of her room and was also cut from GSC/HGSS. Agatha isn't the kind that would simply retire from battling, though, so her absence implies she died, which is a rather morbid way to write the character off.

Knowing GF, they'll probably "magically" make Pikachu the first middle form to be able to Mega Evolve, and they'll probably also have it Mega Evolve just by knowing a certain move (like Rayquaza), so its Mega can still hold the Light Ball. It will be Electric/Fairy and have Speed Boost as its Ability. Raichu will also mysteriously vanish from the game...

Yeah, we'll definitely see the VS Seeker again. I just hope we get a phone to go along with it, this time.

That's not that big of an issue for me. Hey, it beats only having Pikachu follow you, right?

But Team Rocket was in GSC. If they rebuilt Team Rocket in GSC, what would stop GF from including JJM?

And, the Indigo Elite Four existed in GSC, too, so why weren't Lorelei and Agatha there? Jessie and James might have gotten fired when Archer took over for all we know.

That's the remakes' timeline, which is irrelevant to RBY/GSC.

GF just didn't care enough about either character, that's why. GF doesn't exactly have a good track record with Elite Four members, in general.

    Ok...

That's not that big of an issue for me. Hey, it beats only having Pikachu follow you, right?

I have other pet peeves with it, too. Like, not all birds flying behind you. The biggest offender was Honchkrow, it's a large, strong bird and follows me by walking around like a chicken. Pidgey I'd even understand, but Honchkrow?

At least all the birds fly in their 6th gen battle models...

And, the Indigo Elite Four existed in GSC, too, so why weren't Lorelei and Agatha there? Jessie and James might have gotten fired when Archer took over for all we know.

They're too important in the Pokémon media for them to be simply written off like that. I prefer the more convenient explanation: their game appearances weren't canonized.

That's the remakes' timeline, which is irrelevant to RBY/GSC.

Now I've seen you mention this in quite a few threads, and I think you (and a few others) are trying to make sense of something which was never mentioned in any media. It was never said that the 3rd and 4th gen remakes are in a different timeline from the originals. According to Zinnia, XY and ORAS are in a parallel timeline to RS, but it's never stated anywhere that the same reasoning applies to the GB games and their remakes. I'll go as far as saying that, if it was really the case that FRLG and HGSS are in parallel dimensions instead of being retcons, it would've been mentioned in the remakes themselves, and most importantly, it would've been an important plot point. This is only fan speculation, for now.

I don't know when Bulbapedia will update their timeline page, but when they do, I expect them not to use the theory that RBYGSC are in a parallel timeline to FRLGHGSS, because it's never stated in the games. I mean, it's a convenient theory, but the guys behind it are trying to make sense of things like advances in storage mechanics being somehow linked to the story, when the advances are simply due to real-life technology being better and aren't related to the story at all.

GF just didn't care enough about either character, that's why. GF doesn't exactly have a good track record with Elite Four members, in general.

Well, Lorelei got more in FRLG than quite a few E4 members in other games. Bruno was kept in GSC but he never appears out of his room in the games and he's a bit of a punching bag anyway, unlike Lorelei.

Perhaps Zinnia will pop up in Kanto for the re-remakes and mention that they've observed two other Kanto's (and Johto's?), one where only 150 (or 250 for J) mons are know, and another whose biggest events (fall of TR) take place at the same time as an alternate Hoenn.

Well, they could only do so much with the technology of the time. Remember that this was the Gen where all of the overworlds looked like little bobbleheads. :P

Aren't Elite Four members pretty important, too? And, saying that they aren't canon is writing them off, too.

Maybe, it wasn't mentioned in those games because GF didn't put as much thought into these matters back then? (Especially when FRLG were made... Those games could barely tell Gen 1's barebones story, let alone delve into deep meta like this.) If ORAS take place in a different timeline than RSE, then it makes damn sense that the same would be true for the previous two remakes. Besides, people were theorizing this about FRLG and HGSS long before ORAS were even greenlit.

Well, Lorelei got more in FRLG than quite a few E4 members in other games. Bruno was kept in GSC but he never appears out of his room in the games and he's a bit of a punching bag anyway, unlike Lorelei.

None of that has still kept her character from being forgotten by much of the fandom.

I'd hate to see Zinnia get shoved into the games, but that would be an easy solution. I'd rather see Bill utilized for this purpose, though.

But Bill's just the creator and maintainer of Kanto's amen Pokémon Storage System, so how in the multiverse could he know anything about all of the parallel universes that may or may not keep popping up inside of the canon Pokémon timeline?!? What does he do, accidentally invent some kind of machine that can transport people between all of these different forks of the timeline while he's trying to improve Kanto's PC infrastructure like we see him doing in R/G/B/Y/FR/LG?

He actually did invent such a machine in GSC. The man clearly knows something about time travel, and I'd like to see that explored. Much better than shoehorning a brand new character into the story, IMO.

Personally, i would just a true faithful remake.....expansion on areas where it needed, and just refining the same game we played before....

what i definitely hoped for was a story or at least a side story of the three birds, and if their somehow connected to Mew/Mewtwo.

overall....i don't feel like a new game needs the latest mechanics in order to be a fun game. more expansion? yes...but in areas where itneeded it...

i don't know about most Pokemon fans, but i appreciate the old mechanics and never felt like they "needed" to use the new ones, Its also part of its charm, playing a game with previous, and how they each made it work. now that mega evolutoin has been introduced.

and i feel that way for every future remake....if i want to play a game with the latest game, i'll play the latest game in that gen (not remake).

Ah, yes, Generation II's Time Capsule! Maybe there could be some kind of in-game event where he's tinkering with it when we visit his house? This would complement the event where we separate him from the Pokémon that was in a Pokémon Storage System transporter and with he got mixed when he was messing with another one connected to it and accidentally began a teleport, don't you think?

Yes, that would be perfect! {:3} We could maybe even have the Time Capsule accidentally fling us to the different timelines for certain events later on, with the setting turning into graphics like this in the original timeline and turning into graphics like this in the Gen 3-5 timeline. That way, we can get a literal visual depiction of the multiverse.

If you ask me, the Time Capsule is probably what caused the split between RBY/GSC and FRLG/HGSS, IMO. (Hence the reason why it never returned.) I'd like to see that further explored.

Bill invented the Time Capsule that's used in GSC? Is it weird that I never actually knew that?

But there are ways they could have throwbacks to the original games in Generation I, and if we could see retrospectives of the region's layouts in 8-bit and 16-bit (or whatever the GBA is) that would be a clever one of them.

I would love Kanto re-remakes, but at the same time I really hope they don't do it, because I know they would change everything for the worst. The character you didn't pick would be your second rival and act like Shauna, Blue would act like Serena, all of the tutorials from FRLG would probably return and then some, Bill would just give you an Eevee and its Mega Stone, no needing to turn him back into a human, the digger guy in Cerulean would probably give you a Diglet and Dugtrio's Mega Stone when you got his TM back, people around the region would be throwing Pokemon at you in general, the Game Corner would be gone which means Team Rocket's hideout would be gone, so someone would probably just give you the Silph Scope for being you, Marowak's ghost would just be the guardian of Pokemon Tower or something, you'd be forced to battle the (lower leveled) Gym Leaders in order to prevent getting lost, the game would have more of a plot, but it would involve Giovanni explicitly stating he wants to capture Mewtwo and force it to Mega Evolve or something, Moltress would be at Mt. Ember, but they wouldn't include Sevii Islands post-game, as you're experiencing all this there's cutscenes every so often with Blue and Leaf saying how you're all super best friends for life, and worst of all...

My ideal Kanto remake would be very barebones:

    - Kanto in full 3D.
    - 151 Pokémon + new evos, unrestricted during the main game. Rosters updated to make up for it. Bruno with Steelix, Agatha with Crobat, Giovanni and Blue with Rhyperior. Maybe mix some Yellow and RB rosters. Give Yellow rosters to Blaine (and maybe Giovanni), RB rosters to everyone else.
    - Day/night cycle.
    - Cinnabar Island bigger and with a visible volcano.
    - No customization. Red is iconic. Leaf renamed to Green (Blue in Japanese) as in Adventures. Change Blue's dialogue to Green a bit to imply he looks down on her for being a girl, as a bully like him naturally would.
    - Sevii Islands are retconned to Orange Archipelago, with a small four gym quest as in the anime, and an additional Team Rocket quest that ties into the Johto story.
    - Lugia and Ho-Oh are catchable in the postgame and require the birds and beasts to be in your possession, respectively. The National Pokédex would trigger the beasts roaming around Kanto. Team Rocket does NOT interact with any legendaries. (this would probably throw canon to the wind, though, because the beasts are supposed to be dormant until the Johto story, but generally anything that deals with legendaries other than the cover ones isn't canon anyway)
    - Leave Mewtwo be, as in RBY and FRLG. The allure of Mewtwo is that its always doing it's own thing, completely unbound.

Sevii Islands is the biggest thing I'd change, because the gem quest isn't necessary in a future remake and the old fans would love to be able to visit the Orange Archipelago in the game. The Orange League itself isn't necessary, because in GSC and HGSS you beat the 8 Kanto gyms and there's no league afterwards, so the prize for beating the postgame would be the E4 rematch and admission into the postgame battle facility, which could work as an Orange League of sorts.

I need to mention that these gyms would be harder than the 8 Kanto gyms. Each would focus on: Doubles, Triples, Rotation, and even Inverse Battles!

But really, the postgame would depend a lot on when the games would be released. Because you'd have to acommodate a lot of legendaries, like ORAS did. You could have all sorts of legendaries, because having them in the game isn't canon. For example, Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem are in ORAS, but we know from XY dialogue that the events in the new timeline happened more or less in the same way as in the original one, so the Tao trio, at first glance, had no business being in Hoenn. The Lugia thing would just be a way to "canonize" its role as master of the bird trio, even though canonically Lugia is supposed to be resting deep inside the Whirl Islands.

I'd probably have to fit Mega Evolution somewhere in there. Maybe you get your starter's Mega Stone from Mr. Fuji, like in Origins, and then the postgame quest involves it somehow, letting you acquire a Mega Ring at the very end of it. Then the E4 and Champion would have Mega Evolutions of their own. Introduce Mega Lapras, Mega Machamp and Mega Dragonite.

None of that has still kept her character from being forgotten by much of the fandom.

    Screw the fandom, then.
