I used to bite the fuck out of my nails all the time. Then I stopped sometime during college, but I don't remember how I got myself to stop biting them, so I can't help you there =/

I used to when I was a kid. I stopped by wearing a rubber band around my wrist and whenever I caught myself biting my nails I'd slap the hell outta my hand. pain therapy baby

I've never bitten my nails even once, luckily. Never started when I was little so I don't now, which is useful.

My friend used to bite her nails all the time. She used some sort of nail vanish that tasted horrible, so when she bit them it made her gag. That made her stop doing it.

I used to, constantly got hangnails too.

But then I tried painting my nails to keep myself from biting them. That really helped.

I have been biting my nails literally for most of my living memory and I still have difficulty with giving it up. I'm probably the worst of the nail-biters here if that's something to say hahahaha

I bite them too often, usually ending in a bleeding fingertip. I don't know why, as I don't suffer from any mental disorders or illnesses. My fingers are near zombie-like due to the habit, but being someone who doesn't care for appearance, it doesn't hinder my "attempts" to bite some more. :/

I used to, but I managed to stop a few years ago. I'm not entirely sure how I managed to stop. One summer I got reeaally into nail polish and ended up keeping my nails pretty long to take advantage of that and because the polish + finish made my nails a bit stronger, it was easier to take care of them. I'm too lazy for that now, but the good habits stuck and now I never have a problem with my nails getting too short! (If anything, I'm still not used to having to trim/file them down, so I often get to the point where they get ridiculously long and I start typoing all over the place because my nails are hitting keys on my keyboard that my fingers weren't intending to go near. 8D;;)

If you aren't a fan of obvious nail polish to try my way of quitting, there are clear polishes you can buy that don't show up but have a horrendous taste. They're not toxic or anything, they're specifically made to stop people from biting their nails because it removes the likelihood of you doing it without noticing. The moment a nail is in your mouth, you taste the horrible coat on it, and it's a reminder to stop. You still need a bit of willpower (in the right direction--or you'll power on right through the horrible taste to get at your nails :P) but it's a good slap on the wrist technique if you really want to put the effort in to quit. Once you've stopped, at least in my experience, you don't really start again.

So I've never bit my nails, but I crack the hell of out my fingers. I know I managed to stop for about a year (I've since had a relapse :P), and it basically came down to just telling myself that I wasn't going to do it anymore. Of course the whole habit is stress related, so I can't usually stop for long.

I've been biting my nails since I was young....so it's been many, many, many years so far.

I bite 'em because I'm nervous. Because I'm bored. Because it's just total habit for me to do so by now. Although even worse, I don't chew on just the nails. Cuticles are fair game as well. >< I think I tried once during elementary school to stop. Or rather, my mom tried to get me to stop. Had my nails painted up and everything. "You can't have nail polish if you keep on biting your nails." ....Yeah, forget nail polish, apparently. Didn't stop me. Haven't worn nail polish since then, either.

So I have no suggestions for stopping it, sadly. I just still kinda let myself go at it. I feel like there was a time when I didn't do it as much, but I'm sure it was also a time when I didn't tend to get as anxious about things. Also maybe when I actually had more things to do (if attention is occupied, then the nail biting won't come to mind usually).

I am a notorious nail-biter. I try and break the habit but my attempts don't last long. Usually when I'm deep in thought, puzzled or stressed I bite them. I plan to give up one day but it's hard because I've had this habit ever since I was in primary school, so for around 13 years. Plus, no one likes ugly nails!

I've never bitten my nails, although I do find myself picking at them an awful lot, which is probably just as bad in some respects; I am forever making my fingers bleed/sore by picking off too much, and every now and then I'll get an infection in one of the corners which I have to actually cut open to get rid of...

I guess the best way to get yourself out of habits is to try and catch yourself doing it, or to identify what is causing you to do it and try to tackle that. Nail biting, for most people I know, is either a habit or a response to stress.
