What are some games that you absolutely hate, or thought that you would enjoy but ended up hating? Many times I feel like gamers develop stereotypes towards a franchise then will hate that franchise based off of said stereotypes.

Out of all the games I have played over the year, I have only had pure hatred for one game: MAG. I heard about the game at E3, and instantly preordered the game. Maybe I wasn't expecting the massive multipalyer, but it just wasn't for me. The guns weren't that good imo, and I just didn't enjoy how slow the game felt.

I usually don't hate games. I may not like the game in question, or I may be frustrated. But that frustration is almost always a good thing. There was this one game for the GameCube however that I bought a while ago at a con because a good friend recommended it to me as one of the best games on the system: PSO. But when I started playing it, man... It is so far the only game that made me throw my controller with rage. The controls are. Just. So. Damn. BAD! It's so bad to the point where I can't play it. It's literally unplayable for me! The combat isn't particularly interesting, but it's an old MMO, so I shouldn't really expect anything. But if at least that was good, I'd have some reason to keep playing and to master the controls. God, I'm angry.

Super unpopular opinion incoming, but I can't see the appeal of fighting games like Smash. It's fun for a little while and I'll play it at a friend's house, but the prevalence of the hype and why people keep buying essentially the same game repeatedly kind of baffles me.

Dungeon Lords, PMD4 and League of Legends are actually the first ones that come to my mind. Never have I felt so unsatisfied while playing a game and that's just an understatement.

Games that dissappoint me and some that I end up not wanting to hear anything about because a lot of people talk about it in a small timeframe and overhype it to the point I don't want anything to do with it because it just becomes annoying how it's everywhere.
Also any games with realistic graphics = best game of the ever last eternityfans, except for GTA, that one's fun.

I can't really think of any game that I "hate." In general I don't tend to hate things, and I usually end up liking games as much as I thought I would. The worst I can say is that I don't usually enjoy military first person shooters because of the setting. And that isn't always true as there are some that I have enjoyed.

The worst I can really say is that there are some games I don't enjoy so much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I dislike Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but not because I've played it directly. You see my brother plays it, and he goes through a very vicious cycle where he downloads the game, plays it, hates it, rage quits, uninstalls it, and then after he's forgotten how much he hates the game he downloads it again. I dislike it because not only does it seem unfair at least according to my brother's account, he keeps downloading it and it takes a very long time to do so, and until the download finishes the internet is nigh unusable.

Also, I dislike Sonic '06. That one doesn't need much explanation though.

If your experience is limited to only playing Smash for a while, then that makes sense.

Fighting games are the grandaddies of competitive 1v1 gaming, and have insane depth by nature. They're the best when it comes to offering the purest experience of playing your opponent. Not the game, not the controls, the opponent. There's a whole handbook online on one of the most complicated mental aspects of fighters so it should give you an idea of what to expect.

Essentially you're not gonna get much out of it if you're not willing to invest in it, and you obviously won't tell the difference between say, Street Fighter and King of Fighters, let alone the difference between the SF games themselves if you're not taking the time to learn. Even different version (SF2 vs Super SF2) offer completely different experiences just because of the way they're designed. It's a pretty addicting and rewarding genre once you get into them though, which is why they're popular. It's not really baffling.

To stay on topic, nothing I got in mind really.

I once hated Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg when I was a kid. Cannot remember why I hated it so much though. Also am not exactly fond of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

idk, I think that the controls are ok. Not great, but not bad. Or maybe it's just that I'm insane since I've been playing it for 12 years.

My problem with the game really is the sucky leveling curve and the asinine drop rates.

The distaste for realistic graphics just boggles me, it makes me think people will miss out on a genuinely enjoyable game just because the graphics remind them of the world outside their window.

League of Legends is hands down one of the most unenjoyable popular games I've ever played, though. So is CoD....I actually traded in a copy of Black Ops III that came with my PS4 just because I don't like the series. Got SW: Battlefront instead, love it.

Also, pretty much any MMORPG and most JRPGs.

I think it's less people dislike realistic graphics, but more that they dislike the uncanny valley that can result from realistic graphics. At a certain point they look like something you could actually see in real life and when people don't move or look like they would in our world it freaks us out. Such realistic graphics can be very amazing, but when they're mishandled it can look too real to be false, but not real enough to be possible here and cause people to freak out.

I can respect that, and I understand there's depth to it but it's not something I would want to sit down and learn about simply because the concept does not appeal to me. I guess I'm more into games of adventuring and exploration than this kind of thing.

Another thing that comes to mind on this topic, I also don't really care for the Five Nights at Freddy's games.

"Hate" is a strong word for what I feel about games I don't like. But games that don't appeal to me?

Sport games of any kind (except maybe Tony Hawk's Pro Skater... before 5 rolled around and got halfway stuck into a vert). From the ol' 8-bit soccer games to NBA 2k<insert number here>... has no appeal to me. Even worse, in my opinion: team/player management games. That... that I just don't understand. I know there's a market for it, I know some people totally enjoy them, and that's good... but I really, really don't see what the appeal is.

Also, unpopular opinion: visual novels. If I wanna read a book, I'll read a book. If I wanna play a game, I'll play a game. Visual novels just aren't active enough for me, while not having the depth of an actual book, so I can't get into them. Dating sims fall into this as well. Pressing A and sometimes up/down/left/right to make a selection... nope.

I don't hate games though two come very close. The NES game "based" on the first Terminator movie: Finite lives, no continues, clunky controls, doesn't even follow the movie properly, and it feels a bit too unforgiving at times.

Rocky and Bullwinkle by the same devs on the same system. Released around the same time as the previously mentioned game, no continues, horrible controls and sound, and it's as underwhelming and frustrating as possible. "YOU WIN!" is what you get for beating the game. After all the frustration you went through, you get that.

Persona 4. There are plenty of games I dislike or just don't find appealing, but that is probably the only game I can say I well and truly hate. It's complete and utter trash. The cast is an undeveloped mess - and Yosuke and Chie in particular are two of the worst characters I have ever seen in a JRPG, Yosuke in particular for his treatment of Kanji, who is the only tolerable character in the entire thing...plus he's voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, making him even more intolerable - the soundtrack is horrendous, and that the gameplay is so bland and utterly uninspiring only highlights just how unforgiveably bad the rest of it is. What makes it even worse is that, in anime format, it isn't that bad. Mediocre, yes, but not utterly unredeemable the way the game is.

I'll freely admit that I'm exasperated with the fandom's deification of the title and Atlus' reluctance to just let it die, as well. Two fighting game spinoffs AND a rhythm game? The source material was crap! It probably wouldn't be half as bad if it wasn't so obnoxiously thrust in my face every time JRPGs are brought up in conversation.

I've kept it brief, because I've gone into excessive detail before about why I loathe this title before, and I'm sure certain VG regulars are going to be rolling their eyes upon reading this, because they could probably have posted it for me ad verbatim by now. Most games I dislike I can ignore, but this one, it just keeps on cropping up; it's like the Call of Duty of JRPGs or something. It's trash. It has always been trash, and it will always be trash. Let it die already. FFS.

    tl;dr I hate Persona 4.

Whilst there are no games I actually 'hate' I dislike the GTA games. I keep getting told they are this great series but having played most to the same conclusion - Play for an hour, get bored and the game collects dust. I just don't find the games fun.

Crash Bandicoot Mind over Mutant, Pokemon Black and White, Sonic 06, Shadow the Hedgehog, Half Life 2 Episode One (Despite the fact that I really like the first Half Life from what I have played of it so far), and The Walking Dead Season 2 (I like some parts of it, I just can't stand the the execution and that it gets much more praise than it deserves.
