Some might think that Sun/Moon female protagonist will be replacing Serena, but my choice is Lillie. Lillie could be a similar approach to Iris but may be better (being annoyed by Ash, actin like a princess or so).

Ugh, please no. Tsunderes are my most hated character archetypes, because they act nothing like how they are in real life.

Haha I can see why tsundere is bad, but Lillie has a key role in the game, so should her in anime, as anime tends to keep close to the game's originality in plot wise. Thus, I don't think that having her some minor appearance in few episodes, then suddenly she become the center of the plot will make any sense? Having her as traveling companion can easily build her character up, and will lead to the plot easier. And... Lillie might be a tsundere most likely.

Or maybe this time we have 5 traveling crew with Lillie, Lana, Sophocles, Mallow and Ash, the more the merrier, it'll mess up the anime even further~ XD

Ash doesn't need to be dumbed down for him to go to school. They aren't going to reboot his character after the flop that was Black and White. Heck, halfway into Black and White they tried to change him back. They wouldn't repeat this mistake.

This definitely reminds me of Yugioh GX, which I loved. I'm excited to see what happens. For all anyone knows, the school is actually in Sun and Moon. I am a little sad Serena isn't back because I sort of saw her as another Misty but I'll survive. I just hope the new guy isn't as annoying as Clemont and Cilan.

If it's trying to appeal to those of us that like school-setting anime series, it might just be working. I'm at least gonna give it a go. Not sure if I'll like it as much as XYZ buuuut I say that every time a new series airs.

Problem with that is that school-setting anime have no appeal to the western audience due to being a side-branch of slice of life anime, which is currently dominating the anime industry. Western audiences only enjoy shonen-style anime, because that's what they grew up with back in the 90's, and they hate how the new shows for that genre (JoJo, OPM, AoT, etc.) are being overshadowed by slice of life anime, making them grow a distaste to the anime industry in general and it's presence doesn't contaminate their video games.

I don't watch the anime but what's up with Ash in the revealed artwork? Everything else looks fine but Ash himself was drawn poorly. His eyes in particular look off.

I noticed this as well. I think part of it might be because of the white outline around him. I know that all the art for pokemon for Sun and Moon has been terrible, but looks 100% better when animated or in the game. This might also just be a fairly early sketch of him and they slapped it in Corocoro because they couln't do more work on it in time.

After looking at the poster of the anime again, it is possible that the leak could be debunked. I am not going to debunk it completely until it gets more things wrong, as it has had an even amount of both. Chances are, tomorrows episode will debunk or confirm it.

Some reasons it could be debunked are the following:
Crispy Oak wasn't mention.
Sophestica, Lana and Kiawe weren't mentioned.
Hau isn't seen in the poster.
It said Hau got Poppilio, but Lana did.
Mallow's Brother wasn't in the poster.
The idea with Mallow's brother sounds too much like Max form Hoenn.
Lillie was mentioned, but nothing was mentioned about Alolan Vulpix.

Things it has gotten right:
Mallow has Bounsweet.
Ash seems to have Rowlet.
Ash possibly battles Tapu Koko.

Incorrect. It airs today, and the trailer also comes out today. So we'll see if this "leak" holds true later in the morning/afternoon when Serebii posts the trailer on his website.

Yeah, the anime looks more kid friendly as I suspected. But at least Z-moves aren't quite as silly, haha.

I'm surprised by the animation though. It's sort of reminiscent of the original series, not having as many sharp lines.

Which can only mean one thing...reset time!

For now though, a moment of silence for the Amourshippers...

I really like how Lille is animated, but screw that red writing, I want to see Mallow!

Reminiscient? Don't make me laugh. It doesn't even look close to the original series' animation at all (and I'd know, because I've looked constantly at the original series animation). This if anything looks more like Dragon Ball's animation or even Dr. Slump's. And honestly, the animation looks downright terrible, far less befitting of Pokémon. If anything, XY Ash's image comes far closer to the original series animation than this does.

And having Ash go to school like a bad Emperor's New School ripoff is NOT the way to celebrate what is going to be the Anime's 20th Anniversary, not to mention it's not the way to adapt the Sun and Moon games.

I think it has been clear for a few months that Serena won't be with him. Not to mention her voice actor said this was the last year for Serena on a podcast.

The poster that we got with Corocoro has been expanded to show more of the basic poster.

Mimikyu seems to also be with Jessie and James. But there are a lot of pokemon in the poster, so I don't know if it is safe to say who gets what unless they are holding the pokemon like in the Corocoro scans. I think it was said that Lillie would catch Mimikyu.


To me it seems like the animation is not yet finished. Lillie looks totally different from everything else in the trailer that I saw. Her animation looked complete. Not only that, but Ash seemed very pale in the close up frame where Lillie is in the back ground.

Even the corocoro scans look better than this, so I don't think that trailer was done, but they are rushing to get the start out


Edit: From comments I have seen a lot of people like, but a lot hate it. To me Ash just seems out of place and I think it is because it just isn't done. And it seems to be Westerners who are hating the new animation, as most Japanese seem to like it.

They were right....the Kalos League defeat was the end of the anime. This trailer was the final nail in the coffin. I just have no more motivation to watch this show and I won't shed a tear if it gets cancelled.

Anyway, I'm finding this setting interesting, and I'm gonna give it a try. It doesn't matter to me if the target audience is now less mature than what the older one was, the anime is for children to begin with. Ash looks like he's having fun in Alola, and that's all I really care about, to be honest. The trailer showed no travel companions at all, though? Maybe Ash is truly travelling alone then, huh? Interesting... And Pikachu is gettitng a Z move.

Never even watched an episode of the anime since the first few episodes of DP, so you don't need to tell me. That being said, forums, serebii.net, Dogasu, and Bulbapedia are still accessible for me to glean in story elements.

Actually, the anime was intended to be for people of all ages, as Takeshi Shudo made explicit in his blog. It wasn't until AG started that they really started dumbing it down to be pandered to extremely young children. And honestly, like I said when they first announced CoroCoro when I quoted Lando Calrissian, this deal's getting worse by the minute. The only thing that MIGHT fix it is if Misty is brought back, at least enough to ensure that she's NOT undergoing Gym Duties anymore and is free to pursue her goal, with or without Ash.

Besides, considering XY's bad ratings, even by post-OS standards, I'm pretty sure Sun and Moon's ratings are only going to get worse.

There's not much I can stay about story since I've also been slacking on the episodes as well, but I'll come here for a moment to defend the art style and animation. You can post all the frame screenshots you want, but that doesn't change the fact that in the actual video that animation fluidity looks gorgeous. You guys should really expose yourself to some different styles of animation, because this really doesn't look that bad at all. It's very fresh, organic, and full of life.
