As weird as it sounds, my guitar is very low quality, so I won't even bother looking for what's its name... You'll get a much better sound with any decent guitar.
On the other hand, I'm using a Pod X3 to record myself, it's a little red item that is considered as a sound card by the pc and that can also emulate guitar amplificators and distortion and reverb etc. You can probably find that online, like... Pod Live or Pod Pro or whatever they call it now!
And about the software, I'm using mostly Cubase!
