That is true, the Nazis hated the idea of losing to the SU more than anything, towards the fall of Germany many attempts were made to surrender to just the western allies so they could focus on fighting off Stalin.
I was talking about negotiations between Germany and Britain, Hitler originally hoped for an alliance between us, having made many peace attempts after invading Poland. While it would make him able to attain his "living space" without further opposition, Hitler didn't want Germany to be at war with Britain as he actually admired us for building such a big empire despite being such a geographically small country and originally wanted an alliance, its rumoured he even considered the British and German people fairly similar, which when you consider that we also occupied other countries and then brought their people home as servants and/or forced our way of life on them, he kind of had a point by saying that.
As you said, negotiating with a man like Hitler was never going to work in the long run, proof of this is are all the failed attempts at appeasement like the Munich agreement which was basically supposed to prevent Hitler from invading anywhere else, as we know now that didn't excatly work out as planned. Dictators can't be negotiated with, the Nazi/Soviet war was always going to end with the defeat and occupation of one of the countires.
Agreed, if Germany had managed to hold down all of Russia, it would have led to an uprising that pushed the Germans out or the gradual downfall of the Reich through a lack of men to police the occupied countries (Personally I'm quite amazed he was able to occupy Europe and still throw nearly 4 million men at Russia).
Europe would have reduced to even more of a wasteland that it was if it did get to the point of nuclear weapons being used in Europe, it would have probably led to a Soviet flag being placed on a charred piece of earth where Berlin used to be.
While its a terrifying thought I find alternate history theories about the war extremely interesting. An example I like is the book/film Fatherland, set in the 1960's where D-Day failed, leading to USA pulling out of the war against Germany to focus on (and defeat) Japan and the Nazis are trying to form an alliance with the US to gain their support in the ongoing war against the USSR. Granted most theories are kind of unrealistic, including that one as I believe if D-Day did fail and the US either managed to pull out of the war against Germany or no allied invasion was made on the western front the result would have been the iron curtain falling on the British channel or atlantic ocean, but still it's interesting.
Anyway, I'm happy to hear you're enjoying yourself, where are you?
. . .I can write it:
