  • Then let's not discuss it further. I will admit that perhaps that specific comment might have been a stretch, and I apologize for that.

I was going to say more here, but I'll just leave it as that Smogon and I would not be a good match due to the fact I don't dedicate myself to online battling in the fashion that Smogon does. I'm more of the friendly help-out person. Heck, I'm cloning a pair of Shiny (legit!) Genesect for people right now. :)
Sorry, but as a policy I reply to all VMs except for clear spam (which is another story).

You need to know I'm not trying to be rude OR disrespectful, just stating my opinion on what I'm reading. I am extremely matter-of-fact in how I state my opinion. In the end, everyone (including you and me) has their own opinion, and I fully respect that. But if you want to talk about rude and disrespectful, I have to point out that I felt you were being that to me, as well, in some of your remarks. Without going back two pages, "all of your points are invalid" is in effect saying, "you're full of shyt, don't talk again".

To clear up: anyone at Smogon can do whatever they want. But trying to claim they are "fixing" the game is basically Smogon saying, "Nintendo, you release broken games, make patch immediately!" or something to that effect. And Nintendo doesn't care what one corner of the Internet thinks. Nor do they care what I or anyone at PC thinks. They'll do what they want to. I respect that Smogon is trying to come up with a competitive ruleset based on tiers for their Web site (not outright banning, just stating what tier something can play in), and that very concept is something I personally do not like, so clearly I don't go there.

BTW, it's true that my Mega Mawile got its butt handed to it; it was my first time trying it out, and it never had time to even react. Possibly a mere strategical error; possibly not. I was also against a very good battler, which has something to do with it, I think. So if my opinion on Mega Mawile's "ban" to the highest tier is flawed; sorry, I speak from my experience using it, and the strategy used against it by another OU-tier Pokémon or two effectively shut it down. My opinion comes from my experience, not from what everyone else says.

So please be respectful of that opinion. I'm not trying to be rude to you or anyone, and hate that I sometimes come across like that. I just strongly debate my point to the fact that someone is offended in the end by it. I don't mean that, but it happens. But trying to claim my points are invalid when they are in fact valid in their own way is just as "rude", if you will, as me saying that comments regarding "fixing" the game are a load of bull. And, in my mind, it is. You likely won't change my opinion.
Well at least they're taking the right steps, although power creep still looks like a serious issue.

Actually I agree, I suppose at this point we can't afford to be picky and we'd probably have less then 10 tutors anyway. We have to organize it properly though and I'm not sure who is willing to put in all the time to ensure the program works.
oof nevermind. something important came up and i can't stay up as late as i want to. sorry :(

    i can try 6-7pm EST but i can't promise >.<
Actually yeah I saw some BP teams back in Gen V when I had a shot at OU, frustrating since it's so much harder to break the BP chain nowadays. Personally in terms of fun I find just offense vs. offense to be the most fun to play and watch. No BP, no weather. Any offense team can beat another, it's just down to execution while something like BP requires a specific team comp to effectively stop I would assume.

Yep, we can't just force people to talk competitive. It will never work that way, we need to create and maintain interest as you said. And sadly I feel that the current state of the server is a big factor in the lack of interest. Tutoring I feel would be a good option, introduce newbies to both the server regulars and battling together. Problem is we have barely anyone experienced enough to hand out proper advice. DA, you, Kevin Garrett and Karpman are the only ones I can think of cause I'm both rusty and lacking really in metagame knowledge.
    was about to vm you

anyway, do you mind if we do the battle later this day? like, 10 am your time or later?
I generally agree. But I feel we need some drastic change for now then slowly shift back to a more casual state. I don't agree necessarily with throwing people out as you said there is potential there but in the past we have tried to make the server more competitive-focused and people just defer back to old habits after a few days. I don't like the idea of kicking anyone out but this issue isn't going to be solved by mods trying to force people to talk about competitive more. Yeah the ideal situation would be to have newbies and regulars on the servers and lunchtime gossip on the TPC.

Yeah that was $79 I was not going to spend, bought Zelda instead :X That being said that was like 6 years ago.

Higher ranking matches are always a lot more fun and tense and you can appreciate the losses more because you actually feel like you were outplayed rather then bs like flinch at the worst possible time or all your attacks missing. I'm surprised BP teams got that powerful but XY did grant a lot of tools to make it stronger I believe?
If we actually want change I'm not going to sugar coat the truth. And yeah I remember seeing people complain about username colors, I mean seriously don't you have better things to do then complain about a color on a chatroom for a video game? I mean I popped on today when there were only 14 users and most of them were battlers. There was normal conversation and competitive talk, sadly this is when most of the regulars are asleep.

I'm giving UU a run at the moment, just using some run of the mill FWG team with decent success. It's not bad in all honesty. I do want to give OU a shot in time though so yeah let me know when it's safe to try haha.

Colo does sound kind of cool actually, couldn't you catch a special Ho-Oh as well? Really wonder why they never made another game like those. Battle Revolution had me hyped years ago then it turned out to be garbage >:(
err, sometime on august 2nd then? i don't know what timezone you're in, but i'm utc+8
Well you still have a while to go until you decide? xD

Yeah I figured Mawlie would be broken, honestly Huge Power is such a ridiculous ability if you think about how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Azumarill is without it. And Mawlie-M isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥ even without Huge Power. From my perspective it just looks like an unstable mess at this point, I could see it becoming fun but at this stage it's just a better Gen V OU to me.

XD has a proper campaign doesn't it?

Yep, that was always the reason I stuck to PC but in it's current state I'd rather read Smogon's troll chat then deal with PC's Lunch Gossip. We still have people eager to battle I think, even if it's only like ten or so people it worked in the past.
I'd agree it exists just that people probably prefer Smogon at this stage. And yeah I think the server is the main issue here but it's a tricky situation since it's like PC's chatroom or something.

Thinking of picking them up around Christmas. Loved RSE to death and the remakes look like they'll do them justice. XD sounded cool, never got to try it but I always wondered why a console Pokemon game was never made. Seems like millions of dollars just lying there for Nintendo.

And I think the issue with OU as always is power creep, I thought Gen VI took good steps to reduce it but it's still too nuke heavy for my liking. And yeah I'd agree UU looks like my thing, BW2 UU was certainly decent and there looks to be a decent amount of room for interesting teams. Kyurem looks interesting despite being pretty trash type wise. I really do miss Gen IV OU :(

Of course haha, well you gotta go with your interests. What are you thinking of after college then? I'm guessing teacher or scientist?
What are you studying at college? Ah yeah having too much time always sucks haha, watch some TV? And yeah honestly I get that feeling about PC now, not bashing it or anything but it's honestly not as fun for me. It's more active now I suppose but I liked the closer knit group that trolled each other and the battling community just doesn't seem to be there tbh. I only pop on now and then due to boredom.

Eh I'm pretty good, winter break finished here so I'm back to uni. Suppose I'm in a similar situation to you where most of my friends are at a different uni but I've still got other friends here so it's fine. Actually looking forward to the RSE remakes but in terms of properly returning to competitive my motivation is lacking.
Honestly I don't remember as I made the usertitle last year.

Anyways how's life been treating you?
I'm hoping for another Arcade. I miss my Arcade-breaking days a lot.

Really interested in that thread monitoring the pulse of the competitive battling scene at PC. I'm not sure what I can say, being gone so long, but I might slip in about a couple of points.

And once I get on the server I might just watch for a while. Getting used to what's available alone has been difficult. x_o
I don't rightly know yet (though it seems offense has more of a playground, which I love), I'm catching up and relearning a lot that I've lost in three years.

Part of me might be more ready for Battle Facilities when Alpha Sapphire is out. >:V
