Well, one of the big problems that I had when I was working was that I always had to rely on someone else for something. If you can get scripting down, then you'll progress a lot faster because you won't have to worry about that guy never helping out. And to be honest, not being on just shows a lack of commitment or a lack of time, both things that you don't really want on a team. Your story does sound interesting though. I do have a question for you; is there anything interesting going on between the beginning of the game and up to the first gym?

That sounds interesting. Be sure not to get it in too soon, though. To be honest, I think a good goal is to have a rough estimate of 10% of your game fully done before you even think of opening a thread. My thread failed because I had little to offer and I worked slowly. Hopefully yours will do better. :)

The thread was made back in '08, when I started hacking. Truth be told, I haven't been working on it very hard. :)
