im not addicted to md2 anymore, so now my interests are all focused on white!

Well, you kind of just... learn how as you progress. Just make your ordinary maps and scripts, and eventually you'll see errors, or just bad things in them, and move up to a higher level of design.
I recommend you study scripts and maps of fire red for a while until you get the hang of it. Remember. Simple isn't always bad; just boring.
