  • Lol, I figured that, but don't forget Jimmy is blind for the time being and thought his words were birected to Rosalyn and himself. And because of how he is, he reacted. :P
I'm not saying anything bad, if that's what you're asking. I just see Isaac as...the Vegeta of Pokémon trainers. Lots of pride in his techniques and battles and stuff. Never mind.
I didn't say he is. I said the way he battles makes him seem that way. Please don't be offended.
Maybe the problem is that Isaac seemsoverconfident and cocky in his way of battling, and he might be mean without meaning to.
Well, keep in mind that not many were watching the battle, only your second character and PS' character, who is busy trying to get Alice to the Pokémon Center.
The game play plays out like a normal pokemon, but with MGS-like cut-scenes. The second part of the game is pure gameplay. I went back and reedited it.
First, sorry I've been AWOL for a day or so; life = bleh. And on that note :( my computer underwent the kiss of death yesterday afternoon after a botched install of Mass Effect, and is currently sitting brickily on my desk in no shape to do much of anything. Pile'a junk. I'm typing this on my sister's machine, but that's not got any sort of image editing capabilities save Paint whatsoever.

On a positive note! GIFs are actually really really easy, so all you'd have to do if you need this by a certain date is download GIMP, drop your images in from Explorer, crop 'em, insert a line to the effect of 'created using *Hapuriainen's Pokémon Trainer Creator v2' where it can be clearly seen in all states of the animation (i.e. merge a copy of the text layer onto all the other layers), then just hit 'Save As' and type your .GIF file extension. GIMP should take care of the rest for you. :D
Nice choice - I had a quick play and chuckled a bit at Wailord. As to whether you'll need permission - yes, it would be polite to ask, but there is an FAQ:

And I'd be happy to make you a GIF (which I assume is what you're after) of the different characters you create. The only problem is in relation to file size - the resulting animation is naturally going to be as large if not larger than all the images combined, but it's still a GIF and they tend to be fairly little so you shouldn't have too many problems. (What would be nicer would be a Flash file with some interactivity - e.g. buttons to change frames - but I doubt they're embeddable on PC. Tell you what, you can find out for me! :D) Give me a shout once you're done.
Well... yes, I could. But there's like 150 of them. :P How many animations are we talking, dude? They're fairly time-consuming to make.

And essentially, yep, that's correct, I'm currently just keyframing your GIFs so that each frame is a 'scene'. There's more advanced stuff to do with opacity and tweening (Google 'em) that. I can do if you need it, but at the moment there's not much of a need and it's easier to manually create every frame. :)

A couple things, though: when you're sending me the base files, it's much easier for me to get started if I have a clean slate to work on. (For example, in that Charmander one, I had to go in and carefully erase both Pokémon from the backdrop before I could animate any movement over the top.) I assume you're using Paint? If so, just Ctrl-A and paste a screengrab of your backdrop beforehand and send me that along with the poses you want. Much easier. :) Also, it'll take you forever to recolour the Charmander poses if you're not in Photoshop or something with a Select Color Range tool, so just do one and I'll take care of the rest. :) Oh, and finally, if you're changing little things like the colour of the tail flame, please let me know first! Otherwise, moron that I am, I'm liable to think it's a mistake and go over the top. D: I'd rather not do stuff twice if I have to, lol.

I'm off to bed now, dunno what timezone you're in but I think it's different to mine. :) later dude.
Ah. *whoosh* That there was the sound of the joke flying over my head, heh. I'm notoriously dense when it comes to humour.

And sure, no problem. ;) I took the liberty of cropping some of the unused space from the original and re-indexing to fix the colours (your Charmander's tail flame is gray in the original, lol). Hope it's all right. :)

xD I am English, my good fellow. That's the only language I'm even remotely fluent in. Which part didn't you understand - the pic ideas or the CSS stuff? I'll try and rephrase whichever it was better for you. :)
It will be worth it, promise! :D If only so you can step back at the end and think, 'wow, I did all that.' Keep going, dude!

The pic looks great - although I agree, some text might be useful to give the judges a more detailed idea of what's going on. (Moves, dodges and suchlike.) I'd love to help (maybe make you an animated titlescreen or something), so lemme know if that's something you'd like.

And CSS? It's basically a way of sexying up your posts, lol. Making them look pretty.

    [css-div="background-color: #ececf5; border-radius: 8px; padding: 8px; font-size: 11px; color: #666699"]Like this.[/css-div]

A lot of Dystopia's graphics were put together separately without much code involvement (which is what CSS is, essentially, just code), but the layout itself (e.g. table cells) is pure coding. I taught myself the basic principles for the purposes of the contest, lol (having originally created a design in Dreamweaver that was HTML and so incompatible with the forum) - so it's not too difficult. And a valuable skill, so if you want to learn to do it all yourself, that's obviously fine! But if not, I'd be happy to do a quick layout for you. :)
You should start it, but Alice is leaving the cafeteria atm. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I didn't get the notification before posting
Oh, I did see it was a WIP! :) Just giving my one-and-a-half cents in case it was useful.
I like it, sir! I like it very much! Especially the flipping of the Trainer role so that they're now protectors rather than the battle-at-the-drop-of-a-hatters they were before. :)

Also, YAY SOMEONE ELSE HAS NOTICED THAT APPARENTLY POKÉMON NEVER EAT. xD the food and water mechanic sounds very interesting! The whole thing feels like a delicious hybrid of the best bits of the main-series games, PMD and Ranger plus a healthy dash of originality. If I may make a single suggestion - are you going to have an antagonist? It's the only thing I felt might add more suspense to the storyline... although there are games without enemies that work just as well, lol.
Nah, I shouldn't think there's a limit - the more in-depth the entry, the better, right? And yeah, it's tough trying to use other people's pictures to describe your own thoughts - that's why I set meself the challenge of making my own, lol. But I'm sure you'll come up with a solution! :)

How would you do sprites? Uh... not sure I know what you're asking! YES I'M STUPID SORRY D: If your game was 3D, it wouldn't have sprites - they're 2D-specific things. You could always try using some of the Pokédex 3D screenshots, if that's what you're after - they're generally thought to be GF testing out models for the eventual 3DS Pokémon games.

If it's more a written description, PMD sort of is regular Pokémon wild encounters, just in an overworld mode rather than a separate battle one. So maybe the Stadium/Battle Revolution style battles are better suited to what you're after. :S I have a feeling that wasn't particularly helpful, so lemme know if I completely misinterpreted. If only so I can headdesk. ;)
Thanks very much, man! It means a lot that you liked my idea - I remember liking yours! (I'm a massive PMD fan, lol.) Also, how could I take any of your message the wrong way? ;D it's the biggest compliment you could give me.

Also, nope, didn't think of it beforehand - I saw the contest annoucement at the same time as everybody else. I just happened to have a *lot* of spare time on my hands, haha. I think I spent one day writing the overview/single-player/multiplayer stuff and the next faking all the screenshots and the next doing the post styling. :)

And yeah, go all out, dude! The more great spinoff ideas in the thread, the better. If you need a hand with CSS or anything, feel free to hit me up (it took me a day-and-a-half to figure out how to get it styled properly, xD. My 'Preview Post' button was worn out by the end). I'm definitely looking forward to see what you come up with! Rest assured it'll be better than this. xD but that's awful on purpose.
