It has to be in your party, but you have to put the infected Pokemon back in the storage box before midnight or it will heal the virus and not spread anymore. You'll see a smiley face when it can't infect others, and PKRS when it can. :)

Does Petilil have to be with you to spread it or can it spread it in the pc box? :)
