  • oh oh oh another album that you must check out: The Meadowlands by The Wrens. it's my favorite album ever. it has some emo undertones but it's mostly just indie rock. it's so so so so so good, and it might be the strongest album lyrically I've ever listened to (other than early Modest Mouse). you really Feel it when you're listening. it's so good. if you listen tell me what you thought
    I hate it. it totally bastardized an actual genre and now there's such a negative stigma attached to the word "emo" that I dread the day when someone asks me what my favorite genre is because they're gonna think I'm into that stuff. the scene kid image is one of the worst things to happen to pop culture ever as far as I'm concerned.

    have you listened to much of the emo revival stuff? (Snowing, Brave Little Abacus, The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, etc)
    especially check out Spiderland by Slint. it's another one of my favorite albums ever, another top 10. and yeah I love Sunny Day Real Estate. their self-titled album is so underrated too. I love Diary a bunch as well of course. haven't heard The Rising Tide in some time so I should check that one out again. never heard of the two bands you mentioned so I'll have to check them out too!

    and I don't have many irl friends that listen to full albums -- maybe 3 or 4? and even then they do not even come close to approaching my level of music nerddom. I have plenty of online friends who do though. I need to find someone irl who is at my level of music geekery but y'know that might be tough haha
    dude emo's my favorite genre probably. as far as '90s emo that is amazing (you may have heard some of this stuff) look up Everyone Asked About You's self-titled EP, 10 Songs by I Hate Myself (awful name but quite good), Clarity by Jimmy Eat World (which I'm sure you've heard at least some of), The Power of Failing by Mineral (bet you've heard some of this too), Amateurs and Professionals by Penfold, and Do You Know Who You Are? by Texas Is the Reason. among others. I love all that stuff. and then of course the "classics" like Cap'n Jazz, American Football, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc. but yes man American Football is so good. that album's vinyl has the most beautiful packaging of any vinyl I own. I imagine you're into Slint? check out Indian Summer if you want some more stuff in that vein if you've never heard them.

    dude The Dismemberment Plan is one of my favorite bands ever. Emergency & I is in my top 5 (or top 10 at the very least) albums of all time. it's so good.
    I hear any Phil Elverum project puts on a great show so it's too bad you missed it! Beat Happening is so good, and Built to Spill was also on K Records I think, if so then they're awesome too. I really need to listen to more twee, the only twee I've heard is Beat Happening, Belle and Sebastian and The Field Mice and I really like all I've heard
    I love The Microphones, but I haven't yet listened to any Mount Eerie stuff (aside from the actual album Mount Eerie which kinda bridges the gap between the two but it doesn't count). The Glow Pt. 2 is incredible.
    oh damn, too bad. I've been using it less and less lately but I still love it a lot. do you have an account on rateyourmusic?
    LSD and the Search for God S/T and Ride Nowhere are two other well liked shoegaze albums.
    yeah I'm into shoegaze. if you're looking to get into the genre, I'm sure you've heard Loveless by MBV, and you should also check out Souvlaki by Slowdive and Psychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Deathconsciousness by Have a Nice Life is another good one to check out, but that one has a lot of post-punk and ambient undertones too. let me know how you like those if you ever check 'em out!
    hey you have pretty cool taste. I'm actually kinda shocked that I've found someone else here that likes Beat Happening haha. I like all those other bands too (except for Super Furry Animals which I've yet to listen to). and Jeff Mangum came here as well but I wasn't able to go either. ;_;
