Hmm, I can see where you are coming from with thoughts replacing description although I wouldn't say that it's always a bad thing either (guess it depends e.g. what short of POV is being used) - but yeah it's not really ideal.

Curiously what's the exact issue with thought bubbles (as opposed to thoughts?) in italics you have? First I've heard of it being bad although maybe I'm too sleepy atm or something. Which is likely.

As a note you may want to hit 'view conversation' before replying or post messages on my/other people's profiles rather than your own, otherwise I don't know if you have replied and all as you're basically posting to yourself. =p

Look, I'm not saying anyone is going to change their minds after the fact, or base judgement solely on this largely pointless argument - I'm saying that if my entry hadn't already been judged, I was making it a very unpleasant idea that I, card-carrying elitist Philistine (if that's not a contradiction in terms), could do well; therefore ruining my own chances as much as it's possible for me to do. I shouldn't really have said it, but please, it was never my intention to make it sound as if I thought you would behave dishonestly. I've put an explanation of my actions in the topic - it's probably better if you read it there, since, for once I think I've managed to write something inoffensive in the last 24 hours.

As for your second point, yes, not all published books are of a good standard, I know; but that doesn't excuse them. I'll start reading books again when authors start writing them, as opposed to writing what are essentially film scripts for movies nobody in their right mind would go to see, turning them into prose, and cramming in as many adjectives and similes and thought bubbles written as italics they can possibly manage. Just saying here as it's kinda derailing the thread there and all... even if we were to change our opinions on such thing (and knowing Bay and Astinus pretty well I'd say that they wouldn't change their scores based on an 'argument') I'd say that given we've all likely already done your entry (seeing it was one of the first few, and certainly I have done so myself because I've also done everyone else's) so that'd mean editing old scoring and whatnot and so forth... so yeah, I wouldn't worry about that, and it's not a very becoming suggestion to make if you knew the other judges yourself, although I suppose it's not the greatest idea to assume that of someone, know them or not. =p That and I honestly don't see much issue in what was being said in response to Astinus beyond it not being what the thread is for (ie off-topic).

As for what you said earlier because hey, I feel like discussing things, I'd say that yes, a lot of fanfics out there are bad but I do know of a number of pretty good ones as well (some on PC as well) and some which would possibly rival those stories you mentioned (although certainly you are asking to compare with a very high standard there. =p That and considering not all published books are of a good standard themselves...).

I don't mean to be uncivil, but I reserve the right to defend my honour - to gain friends or not. The exact same logic protected my brother and sister from being brutally attacked one day, three years ago. It's not something I'm going to quickly forget.
