  • Yeah, okay. I understand completely.

DLC is a double-edged sword. It's great that companies came up with a way to expand games and make a little extra money, but it's become too prominent in the sense that a lot of the content they do make "downloadable" is actually stuff that should've been or is on the game already (basically, that's the synopsis of that video in a nutshell. If you get to a wifi hotspot, try watching it. It's VERY funny, even my dad laughed his butt off at it and he doesn't play games enough to know about DLC). In the case of FEA, some of the DLC was more than worthwhile. I don't know how many hours I'd have spent level grinding without EXPonential Growth and how I'd make ends meet without extra cash from The Golden Gaffe (both mini-quests you can only get through DLC).
I wouldn't do that, I'm not that cruel!

Also, imagine if you typed like that in the public areas oh god
http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?p=8230568#8230568 <-If you have the bandwidth to spare for it, watch this video (I did, and it was only like 20MB on my wifi, but it was worth it. Also, linked videos here won't play unless you actually click on them). In any case, DLC was basically the Number One complaint in that entire thread, and I agree. Some of it is okay, but only if it's worthwhile. In the case of Nintendo, PMD-Gates to Infinity actually had good DLC and so did Fire Emblem Awakening. Even though Nintendo is doing DLC too, it really hasn't been too prominent in their games. I'll let you know, though, that the Etrian Odyssey series doesn't have any at all. They're full length RPGs and have a lot of default content to them (EO IV does have a Streetpass feature that only lets you find certain treasures depending on what people with other games have found in their own copies, and what they can find is different for each game).
Games like that were all the rage back in the day. It's the same reason I got hooked on Golden Sun and (now) Etrian Odyssey. Pokémon actually had a lot more stuff like that back in the RSE days and even into the DP era. I'm not saying Pokémon's gotten worse for wear, but I wish they'd have kept some of the "hidden" legendaries actually hidden. I mean, even with the advent of the Internet, older games used to really make you work at things if you wanted to beat them fully.
I have to disagree with you on that part. Super Mario RPG was intentionally easy to get people hooked. However, there were several challenges that were actually extremely hard. Two optional bosses were almost impossible to beat, but when you did, you got two of the best items in the game. Culex and Jinx were nearly invincible, with the first specializing in heavy damage and recovery tactics while the later used a lot of OHKOs. Beating Jinx was actually almost necessary if you wanted to beat the game because Smithy (the final boss) specialized in heavy "hammer" tactics, which essentially pulverize you entire party every time you fight if you don't have someone wearing the Jinx Belt (which stops OHKO attacks).
I feel like putting this in my signature omg it's so funny yet not funny at the same time
Yeah, it's not exactly strong, and Lapras is more popular too. At least it may be better than Ariados...? =p

We got a third judge btw! *pokes at GT thread*
Oh, it's easily the best non-Platformer Mario game ever, if not one of the easiest games to do an 100% complete play-through of ever. I mean, there were only two really hard parts and they weren't part of the actual story. If anything, it's a testament to everything right about RPGs in the 1990s, and what should've remained the standard for all Nintendo RPGs to come. There were so many minute secrets in this game, it wasn't even funny, and you could find them all if you checked carefully!
Oh, hohoho... You have never played Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Pardon my language, but this game is like a ******* **** and you won't stop playing until you've beaten everything, EVERYTHING! Then you'll want to play it all the way through again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again... You'll eventually move onto something else, but this is one of few games that will make you develop OCD even if you don't really have it. :P
Heh, I can kind of understand that. I have had a few obsessions as far as games go, but the ones I've been truly dedicated to are few and far between.
    Good luck with it!

What if you were writing about crime!?

That would be neat @ competitive section, most I know is only about double battles anyway, haha.
Virtual Console's just a way of bringing back old games to Nintendo's newer systems. It was originally coined with the Wii, and then they carried it over to the 3DS and Wii U. I actually have purchased a few titles from the NES and GBC (I'm a little PO'd that the NES ones don't use the whole screen, instead of just a reduce section near the middle like GBC ones do). The graphics and sound are supposed to be slightly enhanced because the games are digital now, but the GBC ones sound like they still have the 8/16-bit sound that the GBC used to. Enhanced graphics/sound were never a big deal to me anyways, especially for what I knew were older games (the Megaman Xtreme games do look and sound just like the original Megaman X games for the SNES).

In any case, I'm a little ticked because there were GBA games I actually wanted that I never got around to buying, and tons of SNES titles I would re-buy in a heartbeat just because I put my SNES away years ago and don't want to really dig it out yet.
WHAT? *checks Wiki again* F***! They re-released it as a VC title for the Wii U and not the 3DS? This is what PO's me about Nintendo lately, as far as VC titles go. They release the older console titles on the Wii U and leave the GB ones mostly for the 3DS. Now they're releasing GBA titles for the Wii U and not the 3DS. It PO's me because those are the titles I'd buy (if they're cheap enough, which the GBC ones usually are). I mean, I own the original GS games, so it's not a huge deal. However, I've kind of been hoping they'd release some SNES/GBA titles for the 3DS so I can get them without having to dig out my old games/systems just to play them... Eh, on second thought, it's not that big of deal because I still have a DS Lite I tote around sometimes to play GBA games.
haha, hey at least you realized your hate. i failed algebra 3 times in the last 6 years and yet i still thought it would be a good idea to pursue accounting.

also a coffee milkshake either sounds amazingly awesome or absolutely horrible

anyway what type of things do you write?
i was an accounting major for 3 years. then i realized how bad i was at math. now im a communications major.

thats not bad for a first job, although im sure that not liking coffee gives you a decent disadvantage, but im sure once you get used to it, itll become almost second nature. soon enough youll be able to make a double mocha caramel frappaccino cappuccino triple chocolate fudge coffee drink without hesitation (i have no clue if thats a real drink or not).
Aye, RPGs are amongst my favorites too. BTW, have you heard of Golden Sun? It was a short-live GBA/DS series that only had three titles in all, but it was insanely intricate and had a ton of hidden things you had to look for if you wanted to really complete the game. Trait-for-trait, it was actually one of the easiest RPGs of all time, but there were tons of things in it that made it one of the most worthwhile gaming experiences ever. The biggest point was finding all the hidden Djinn that got scattered around the world after a volcano (where an ancient temple was hidden) erupted. Find them was optional and easy enough to do, but if you wanted to truly complete both of the original GBA games, you had to find them all (like Pokémon, sans Poke Balls). Similarly, the third DS game encouraged finding them too, but it wasn't a requirement (actually, it was hard to in the DS game because if you missed any at certain points, you couldn't go back to get them. The game made it so there were tons of roadblocks at certain points, which made it a little harder than the originals).
And what talent do I really have? Probably none, unless you consider working with computers a talent.
RPGs used to incorporate gameplay into the story. The NES and SNES Final Fantasy games were very good examples of that. For instance, FF IV had you constantly doing things in order to perpetuate the story. If you didn't trigger events or get involved in certain battles, you wouldn't be able to move on and would probably lose the game. It sounds fixed, but it really wasn't.

The Etrian Odyssey series is considered a tribute to older RPGs. It brings back a lot of player involvement, which most games don't have anymore. By player involvement, I mean the things you do and discover can make or break your entire quest. Don't get me wrong: there are still other games that do that. However, the majority of them are straightforward and don't have the nitty-gritty little secrets that you used to spend weeks on end trying to discover. Even with the Internet at your disposal, Etrian Odyssey's so thick that you'll still keep finding stuff long after you've completed the actual game parts (I know I still am. I only looked up a small portion of what's in EO Untold, and I'm still learning that there's a ton of content left to be discovered outside of the regular dungeon crawling parts).
Haha, thank you so much :')
Basically, I put 'Rainclouds and Thunderstorms' when it's 'Thuderstorms and Rainclouds', though it appears that you have fixed it! Again, thank you so much!
