I agree. If GF doesn't want to make any more third versions or sequels, fine, but that means that they'll have to stop half-assing the initial pair and give us a quality, complete game from the start. Leaving Kalos with just XY is akin to leaving Sinnoh with just DP.

I think Game Freak might have learned from the reaction that comes with introducing so few new Pokemon, so maybe they'll have more new Pokemon in 7th Gen. I do agree with you about the rivals, since they had no development whatsoever, B/W had a good concept going with Cheren and Bianca, but 6th Gen was like a step backwards when you consider the story and development that happened in 5th Gen.

I also speculate the reason why rivals have mainly become friends (as opposed to early ones like Blue and Silver) is due to the likeliness that an antagonistic rival would be a bad influence on children, which is the main target audience.

What was the biggest 6th Gen disappointment you had due to overhype? I didn't find 6th Gen that bad, but that was because we got a lot of info during the pre-release period for XY, and at this stage 7th Gen pre-release seems like it'll be the total opposite.

I blame all my overhype on those fake scans, because it makes me think if the real designs might share some elements with the theme that's going.

Is it me or am I getting even more concerned that Game Freak are trying to set me up for disappointment? Especially when you consider all those "Fakemon" that end up looking better than the final product.

Iirc, there are Psychologists for kids too, which is the best one for me (if I took Psychology). Not to mention, I get along with kids too!
