I agree with your point of overly/terribly designs, Cinccino, the evolution of the three monkies.
Gothita and its evolutionary family etc...
Unfortunately the designers took that level higher for XY. Sigh...
Still there are new Pokemon with neat designs.

Though I have to disagree with the story part.

I love Nidoqueen and since Nidoking is incredibly similar, I can tell you won't have a hard time! Gengar gets a lot of attention being the first Ghost type and all. I would love to try one out.

My favorite Ghost types are the moment are Banette and Mismagius.

I think I used that site once, but had some kinda problem with it. Not sure what it was now, though! I might actually try one again some time... when I feel like putting in the effort for it, haha. I've not thrown much into a signature for a long time now.

I don't think that many people know how to do them, probably. I used one once and it was awesome but quite a bit of hassle, too.

Sounds like a solid team. I would use it. I personally find Bronzor very underrated. People need to remember it a lot more... Empoleon is pretty good, Staraptor is awesome, if not the best basic Flying type and Garchomp will destroy basically everything except for Ice types.

Definitely suggest it in the Get-Together 2013 thread! :) Although, I think designing a "region" would be best suited for game development. And A&D's half of the collab is specifically about drawing Fakemon seeing as that's the only part Pixel Art could use (it'd be hard to sprite a story, after all).
