will 4th gen hacking (d/p/pl/hg/ss) ever replace 3rd gen hacking

I can't say I've looked into it but it's certainly not a placeholder. It's more likely the screwy result of requesting data that isn't there. Adding pokemon is still possible, it's just bound to be a more involved process then overwriting some placeholder data (or other pokemon, which you can...

will 4th gen hacking (d/p/pl/hg/ss) ever replace 3rd gen hacking

This question is akin to "Will humans ever colonize new planets?" You can sit and talk about it all you want, but the only answer you can really get is maybe. If people make it happen, it'll happen. If they don't, it won't. Not sure why this thread was approved because there is obviously not a...

Research: [GENERAL THREAD] Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver Hacking

How exactly does moving the discussion somewhere else facilitate more discussion? And for the record, Pokecommunity isn't the only place on the web that deals with ROM hacking, or even Pokemon-specific ROM hacking for that matter.

    Pokemon Hacking Next Gen...

Dissimilar as they may look, this guy is mostly right (even if it's for the wrong reasons). 3D file formats for the DS are standardized and almost all games made for the DS will use roughly the same formats for 3D and certain other materials.

What does Europe have to do with it? The US version was changed because the US (ESRB) rating system said it would no longer allow "gambling" in E rated games.

The memory sizes have to be a power of two, so I don't think there's a game that's natively 215 megabytes. Maybe it's 256 trimmed to 215.

Thank you for this completely moronic post.

I've got a code to do that, but it doesn't change the fact that the models are still 3D. All it does is make them look 2D: 621D10EC 00000000 B21D10EC 00000000 20001218 00000004 D2000000 00000000 I believe credit goes to elixirdream. It's for SoulSilver (U) but if you look around I'm sure you...

Large parts of the game consist of nothing but 3D models. Surely even if you could just "disable" 3D the game would be rendered unplayable.

RTC Solution for flashcart users (Ruby)

There wouldn't be problems with anything time-related, because as far as the game is concerned it's a retail cart with a clock feature (which it basically is). GBA games aren't really emulated in the same sense that GBC games are when played on the DS. There's not really anywhere to put the...

RTC Solution for flashcart users (Ruby)

That's an interesting approach. Another option, if you don't already have a 3in1 or are willing to invest $20 is to get an M3 GBA Expansion Pack. It's like a 3in1 but has a RTC built-in.

That's not really a ROM hacking question. I know I don't know the answer. You'd probably be better off asking it on a cheat code board.

    Pokemon Hacking Next Gen...

Not necessarily. Each system has its own "standard" data structures for common game components. In the DS's case that's images, models, animations, sounds, etc. Since the 5th generation will be on the DS like the fourth generation it's likely that those elements I just mentioned will be able to...
