They just... didn't have that charm they used to. It seemed like almost too much thought was put into them; they became too over-complicated and in the process lost a lot of the endearing simplicity they once had. It's not that they're running out of ideas, it's almost like they have TOO many ideas and they're trying to do them all at once and making their Pokemon ridiculous in the process. I'm sure there were a lot of Pokemon that were amazing in battle and had good stats and whatnot, but that's not where Pokemon's charm comes from. :P And this is coming from someone who liked a lot of the third gen Pokemon, haha!
I guess next gen I just want them to focus more on creating thorough, original and interesting plotlines while keeping the Pokemon simple enough to look great while still bringing something new to the game. There was some news I heard a long time back that the 5th gen would have mostly old Pokemon with only twenty or so new Pokemon and I actually loved that idea, because I just don't want it to get to 1001 Pokemon or something. xD
I still have hope for 5th gen, though! There's no use in writing it off before you try it. :D It could possibly be a huge surprise and I could love it... at least, that's what I'm crossing my fingers for. :3
