Wait, so it only happens when you use the selection tool? I think I have an explanation to your issue then;
Next time you use the selection tool, look in the top bar of Photoshop. Notice a little feather icon? What's this set to? If it's set to anything other than 0, this is why you'll always get the curved edges around your image. The higher the number is, the rounder the curve will be. It's pretty much the same as using the "Rounded Rectangle" selection tool.

Hope this helps you out, and if you need further assistance, I'll put together some screen shots for you when I get back to my house (where Photoshop awaits me) :3
