I was disappointed that Octahedron wasn't a concept album because their concept albums are always better. Amputechture is still great because of Jon Theodore and how Cedric really started playing with Spanish in the lyrics, but Octahedron... some songs are great, Teflon, Halo of Nembutals, but it's like Omar just said "Okay, so we're gonna take Bedlam, cut out Pridgen and play acoustic." It was pretty bold, and I was a bit disappointed. But I still did listen to it non-stop for a good month, haha.
The first song I heard from them was Goliath, and that just blew me away. I had never heard anything like it. But if the first song I heard was off of Octahedron, I may not have been so inclined to keep listening to them, which saddens me a bit. But the Mars Volta's theory is to never recreate anything, so while I don't want them to make a second De-loused, I want them to make something just as good, with a different sound.
