IVs are short term for Individual Values... They are kinda like "invisible" numbers that tell how good each of your Pokémon's six stats are (HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed). They are "invisible" because you cannot see these numbers on your Pokémon's stat screen in your game.... IVs can't also be changed unlike EVs...
In short, they tell how overall powerful the Pokemon is.
Ex... Let's say you have a Salamence Lvl. 100... and you wanted to battle someone else's Salamence lvl. 100. You both use the same attack, Dragon Claw. Your Dragon Claw got 50% of your opponent's Salamence, but when the other Salamence used the same move... K.O for your Salamence.
The opponent's Salamence has higher IVs.
