I'm enough busy doing my own hacks these days so I really don't have time to help you.
Anyways, progress of Dark Future is kinda slow but it's still progressing furhter, all the time.

Hex editing can feel quite difficult if you aren't used to hexadecimal system as itself (kinda means that if you heard number 0x152, you could tell straight that it's 256 + 80 + 2 = 338 in decimal system). Anyways, check the two tutorials about hex editing and rom hacking that I've written.
It's important to understand the basics of the stuff you're doing with the tools, so that you'd be able to fix glitches that could appear. Besides, for example powerful scripting can't be learned by just downloading XSE and reading some tutorials about it. To learn to do more hardcore stuff, you need to be fully capable of editing more simple things without the use of tools ;)

well as i sayd before i doesn't matter how long it takes...well a little bit..but just a little bit:P but it's no problem even if it takes longer than yesterday:P(and yeah i know that i uses very much :P's i like to use them:P)
