The masuda method is just what happens when you breed two different reigonal pokemon in the daycare and the baby has a super high chance of being shiny. It lowers the odds of the baby pokemon being shiny from the astronomical 1/8492 to an amazing 1/1250 from what I remember. And yes if you dont do the masuda method, the baby still can be shiny, it will just be 1/8492, like anything else. Heres an example of what I do to get MM shinies. I have a japanese ditto and I breed it with my american pokemon and the chances of shiny are super high. Understand?
