I wonder what it could be. Although I've learned quite a bit recently, I've havent delved into it deeply to understand the reasons as to why. Though pegging the currency to the dollar to halt inflation would just send the country back into a deindustrialization spiral so...

That's the issue with inflation. Its good for developing an export economy but really jarring to the local population to have widely fluctuating prices. Its too much to get into the whole monetary policy issues here but its interesting how it all works in the end.

Still everytime I hear Pesos I keep thinking about the home country lol. xP

It's pretty interesting seeing the issue both objectively in an economic sense, and the intense emotional subjectivity of how privatization and corruption was endemic in causing huge suffering for much of the population. Much of the Neo-Liberal classic austerity measures imposed by the IMF and WB on Latin America was essentially also imposed on most of Europe post 2008 Financial Crisis. :(
