I wouldn't say I'm Avid as at the moment I'm justbreeding for hidden abilities, egg moves and natures. As for using the Destiny Knot to pass on perfect IVs it's actually not hard at all, just time consuming. Basically the easiest way to do it is to get some dittos, breed some pokemon with a couple perfect IVs with some Dittos (or go to the Friend Safari and get several as all have at least 2 perfect IVs) then get a bunch of rare candies via the GL cashing in your Pokemiles for half price rare candies. Anyway, go to daycare centre. Save. Level up the two pokemon you are putting into daycare until you can reliably get their IVs from an IV calculator (the one on Serebii is good) write these IVs down and make sure no numers overlap (so make sure the ATT stat isn't the same on both for example). Reset WITHOUT saving. Get those two parents and put them in the daycare with Destiny Knot. (And Everstone if you like one of their natures) SAVE immediately, before the egg is generated. Now, when the baby is born it will have a mixture of IVs from the parents. Level it up and write them down. Figure out which stat came from which parent (which is why there should be no overlapping stats) if it gets, for example, AT and Def from the father and Sp Att, Sp Def and Speed from the mother, but if that is NOT the spread you want, skip to 1. If it IS the one you want, skip to 2.
1) reset and when the egg gets offered again, reject it. The IV spread from the destiny knot is decided before the parents even go into daycare so resetting and getting the egg again will just result in the same IV spread over and over again. Rejecting or accepting an egg makes the next spread different. Reject the egg, save immediately then run around till another egg gets given to you. Level it up and check it's IVs. Kep doing this till you get the spread you want. Then go to step 2
2) if you have a pokemon that you WANT to have the fathers At and Def and the mothers Sp Att, Sp Def and Speed, put a compatible father that has 31 IVs in Att and Def and a mother that has Sp ATT Sp Def and speed in 31 and then save. Since you saved BEFORE teh egg was rejected, that same egg will be produced even if you change the parents, so nwo that you know what stats will be passed down from the father and the mother, put in a compatible father and mother that have the stats you want to be passed down. (so the father with AT and Def, and the mother with the Sp Att, Sp Def and Speed you want) you may not get ALL the stats you want due to not having pokemon with enough perfect IVs, however you can combine a couple 1 IV pokemon into a 2 IV pokemon, a 2 and a 1 into 3 and so on from there. It's time consuming, but once you get into the rhythm it makes sense. Evnetually as you start combining stats from multiple pokemon you will eventually get your 5 IV spread. I got up to 4 before I got bored, lol! A
Anyway, I tried to make that as confusion free as possible, but here's a video that explains it much better:
