Wondering your thoughts on this.
I looked up Azumarill and everyone advises give it a Physical moveset. However, its base SpA and Att are identical, at 50 each. Why does no one explore the Special move options?
For instance, I currently don't have access to Ice Punch. Until Move Tutors return, I clearly will not have access to Ice Punch on a 5IV-6IV specimen. I could move tutor it in 5th gen.; I just can't move backwards to get it. So if I want to cover Ice, I have to use Ice Beam, which is a stronger move. Coincidentally, if I put the EVs into the SpA instead, it becomes something a Dragon better not stand in front of.
Looking at other options, Surf is a move I already used with two Azumarill with great effect in the playthrough and in the GT11 challenge (I had to make it a Rain Dance user to meet the requirements, effectively making it a three move user; I had to use Leppa Berries during the E4). At this point, I can include Play Rough for Dragons or omit that (since I have Ice Beam) and use something like Aqua Ring, which may or may not be useful; perhaps combined with Leftovers. Superpower maintains itself where it's the only Physical move, so lowering Attack means nothing since my other attacks are not there.
