Plot-wise, they are similar for the most part, but with most 2000s mangas the anime's art is better; Attack on Titan is the best example of that. But omgggg I need to read Ouran and Fruits Basket *o* And xxxHOLiC too

That's a smart move they've done there. ;) I'm starting to think that SU isn't really aimed for kids, it's more like a show for all sorts of audiences. As some of the element are too deep, for example Amethyst's resentment(?) towards Greg because Rose disappeared and Pearl's reaction when it comes to Rose. etc
