Well, I've given it some thought and I guess that battling used to be so prevalent was because it was so ingrained in the discovery of new Pokemon - people would venture out into the wilds and explore and discover new species of Pokemon. Within Kinyo anyway, we could say that we've essentially reached the point of which there are no new Pokemon in the region left to discover, so people don't go out battling in the wild anymore. If that's the case though, I think there'd need to be a greater goal the Professor should justify giving the new trainers their Pokedexes, rather than just the fact that it's the stock-standard approach to treating new trainers. Also, I guess we could provide some sort of backstory as to why Pokemon Trainer Licenses are needed - as regulation of the practice probably diminished how easy it was to become one and helped in a decline in its popularity - perhaps Team Phantom existed in the past and relied on the mass-capture of Pokemon to try and enforce their will? Then, as a result even the abundance and variety of Pokemon in the region declined, leading to regulations on their capture and use until recently where training Pokemon has essentially become a dead profession as a result. I suppose then I can frame the Professor's research more in the perspective of how much Pokemon diversity remains and whether things are actually recovering, whatnot.
Speaking of Team Phantom, I forgot to mention in my previous post but I was thinking that they could also tie in as well. I was thinking they're essentially waiting to take-over when people basically have no way of defending themselves due to not training Pokemon, though now that I think about it, isn't that just Team Plasma? Hahah. That said, I like your approach better of just generally trying to make things unsafe or influencing politics to create anti-Pokemon Training vibes. And yeah, I'm trying to stay away from grimdark stuff - I kinda wanted the RP to be more grounded and I guess personal. Admittedly, I haven't fleshed out anything about the Team's goals and characters behind them though! If they were to take over, I think it'd be limited to Kinyo though. If they're not about taking over, then I'm not sure what goals they could have. I think in some written notes I had somewhere I brainstormed that the Boss was looking to revive a deceased loved one with Ho-Oh's power, but I'm not sure where that ties in either.
In terms of League staff...I honestly should have fleshed out more, haha. I think I was just rushing to push the IC out because I was away for a month and didn't want people waiting on me any more. First gym leader is Morrigan, who has a Poochyena and Murkrow. I like your idea that they have to put more time into other jobs now (maybe the Kinyo Government isn't subsidising the League anymore so the gym leaders don't get paid as much anymore.), so maybe she works a main job (not sure what it should be yet) and being a gym leader is a side-gig. Your ideas about other League members are interesting, especially the one about the one who gets promoted. I'm honestly not sure whether to include an Elite Four or not, but I did sort of include Bellatrix in the original IC as one. Overall, I do like your idea of convincing people that battling is important and I like how it ties into the overall narrative.
As for the Champion, I haven't really fleshed out who they are, but my concept behind them is that they're so preoccupied with the duties of being a champion that they have sort of forgotten why they became Champion in the first place. Rather, they're just a political figure and since there hasn't been challengers in a long time, their run as champion has gone on exceptionally long.
I guess in terms of my priorities I wasn't really focused on plot yet as I was more concerned if the RP would actually happen or not, and I wanted the first couple of towns to just be there to introduce people into the RP and let them adjust to how it works (and develop into the rhythm of the RP, I guess). What are your thoughts overall? What sort of direction should I take the plot in, haha?
