For my plot, a lot of it is inspired by Nineteen Eighty-Four, V For Vendetta, and the power struggle in the Soviet Union after Stalin's death. The use of an Oligarchy rather than a single figurehead/ruler is done primarily as a plot device for later in the story. The characters are mainly inspired by people I meet everyday, having their personalities meshed together and adapted to the situation of the story.
A variety of things, really. Going on long walks, taking showers, listening to music, watching a movie, doing some tedious work -- basically, anything that lets my mind wander but doesn't exactly bore me, either. Eventually, I end up crapping out ideas just because my mind is busy screwing around with stuff.
Nick is a Furret that the girl is holding with a leash. It's just that his nickname is like a human one.

The Pokemon that have ages described are different than the ones that have levels described. You'll find out what that is soon. ;)
    Nice name change. :P

Anyways, did you actually reset the ROM after saving the changes? If you didn't, then it doesn't understand that you've fixed it yet, and then you gotta reset the ROM. Try that, then get back to me. ^^
*nods* Yeah, I figured it'd be easier that way.

As for your question, the prompt's mostly for the people who want to do the challenge but need a little inspiration. Basically, not everyone's got an idea to blitz-write, and sometimes, not even a week's break is enough to help an author get their gray matter working enough to come up with something. Playing with one word (which changes every week so we don't end up getting bored with it or something like that) might be able to trigger a sudden burst of inspiration with some people. For example, if someone thought of boiling water, they might think of boiling water that stinks. In a bog. Where Ash and company are lost. And where there's rumors of a swamp monster that comes up to kill passing trainers. So, then, you end up with a story idea that way by screwing around with a word for a half an hour.
Unfortunately, the prompt's actually completely optional, so in many cases (all so far, as far as I can tell), the author doesn't actually follow it. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
The first line often defines the rest of the story. eg, the "Go ahead. Shoot me." thing leads into the moral issue of whether the protagonist has the guts to kill a man, which gives options for a hell of a lot of conflict. However, being a one/twoshot, there isn't room to put in everything that may spring to mind. At least I won't run out of ideas.

But I should really do some planning. I know all the tricks of the trade, I just don't use them.
Planning phase? What is this planning phase of which you speak?

When I do oneshots, I think of one character I want to include, and go from there. My starting point for this one was-
"Go ahead. Shoot me." His voice echoed through the subway station.

And I just roll from there. i is bad riter. =P
I suppose that's the point . . . Darn Jax and her mind games!

But I'm getting there. I have a cop in a subway in Sunyshore City with a Galactic Grunt spraying him with submachine-gun fire. It's at 1123 words, so I'm on track. Considering I forgot all about it until a couple of hours ago, I recokon I'm OK.
I'm of the same mindset. I have 500-odd words done, and I have no idea how it's going to relate to boil at all. But sooth, I lie. I do have a vague idea. The vaguest idea, stirring the corners of my mind like the autumn wind brushing the golden treetops in April.

o_O Poetic moment. Don't mind me.
ok fine with that but if you are free and ever want to learn you know where i can be found email me or vm ok
