I've found many fan artists and authors add large amounts of "adult themes" just for the shock factor or "the sake of it" instead of it actually having it contribute in any way to the story. Gets pretty dull. Though I can't speak for the thing you linked since I haven't read it.

The "Adult Themes" in Angelic Shadows are well-written and add to the story instead of being some poorly constructed addon
Although, yes, pokephilia can make some people rightfully uncomfortable and there are characters that express such misgivings
There are quite a few shocks, especially if you miss a few key foreshadowed elements
