  • Oh thank God there's somebody other than me who likes classic Sonic games

I've never played Sonic CD because I've never owned a Sega CD (which was fortunate since it wasn't all that hot). It's in my list of games to play. Nowadays you can do it with a PC instead of lugging around a fully upgraded Genesis.

Funny thing, the full Genesis set (console, Sega CD and 32X) required three power cables, since each part used its own supply. Horrible compromise from Sega.
You can get Sonic CD on Android and iOS too. The version there has Tails, both soundtracks (the US version had a more rockin' soundtrack while the Japanese version had more pop songs,) and has looping on the songs so I'd recommend that one, though it's harder to play if you're not attuned to playing with touch controls. The same guy who made it did a port of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 that had Super Sonic, a working Spin Dash, Tails with his flight ability, Knuckles, and even Hidden Palace Zone with its own unique boss fight not seen in the original game in the case of the Sonic 2 port.

As for the three power cables deal, the Angry Video Game Nerd discussed that during his review of the 32X. They don't end with normal plugs either; they end in those huge box plugs that make it nigh impossible to plug in all three at once. Oh, and you need an optics cable to hook up the Genesis to the 32X or else the foreground layer won't show up. It's a mess, and it only had maybe 40 games released for it so it's pretty worthless as is. Why'd Sega make it?!

  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my top Sanic. The game feels so complete when it's put together. The music is fantastic with a couple of exceptions that really boil down to personal taste, the Zone variety is fantastic and the level design is genius. It also functions as the first Sonic game to actually have a plot that plays out in the game, with a handful of simple cut scenes that do a strangely good job of conveying what it happening. On top of all of this, Knuckles is great fun for anyone who wants more of a challenge. His lower jump height and more challenging boss fights definitely bump up the difficulty of the game, but his ability to break down walls opens up entirely new routes that Sonic can never reach. All around it's a really fun game that I spent a lot of time on!

  • From modern to classic Sonic

    ♥ teehee.

My favourite Sonic game's actually Sonic Generations. While I do enjoy the older ones (especially CD, loved the time mechanic), Generations was like a love letter to the series. It did so many things right in the Sonic franchise. The gameplay was spot-on in my opinion, graphics were beautiful, locations were picture perfect...if only all the modern games were like this.

Dare I say the almost universally despised Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island? As a kid I absolutely adored this game. Not only because I could actually complete it - I always got stuck in Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1, Casino Night at Sonic 2, and I didn't have Sonic 3 at the time - but because it was the first "3D" game I played and I was blown away by the presentation of it. It was a bit clunky and difficult to handle at times, but I adjusted pretty quick. I also really like the soundtrack, even now. All of the Act 1 themes are fantastic~

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was pretty amazing as well. EA have forever earned my emnity by acquiring Bioware and making sure that a sequel to this will never happen.

Sonic 3D Blast was awesome! It's so different from any other Sonic Game in all the best ways, while still feeling like Sonic. The bonus stages are lame though.

Eh... When I was little I loved Sonic 3D blast. But Now I see why it's so universally hated.
