Firstborn (and onlyborn) to one of the richest families in their country and who owns the largest piece of land (an Estate called after the family name) available in the continent (sans cities and the such, of course). An Estate so large that the Resident Professor has a small research valley inside. His grandfather was one of the greatest Pokémon athletes in recorded history.

One day, Darius' Grandpa's Rapidash's mate gave birth a foal. Naturally, grandpa gives the foal to Darius as birthday present. At first he just calls her Ponyta but when she gets a bit clingy he dedices to name her "Lovely".

Pa&Ma, unlike grandpa, didn't like his boy go around with a Ponyta because they wanted to educate him to become the next manager of the Estate, so kid Darius is essentially kept prisoner, homeschooled and has only one or two friends (Lou one of them). By age 11 he is already a bit competent in racing; he is also mad at his parents for being so unfair with him, so he decides to get his own Starter just to piss Dad off. Because he can't get any of the Pokémon available in the Estate for him and he doesn't want Ponyta's pedigree to get tainted with battles, he takes advantage of Ma having a nervous breakdown and "kindly suggests" the family to take a vacation on another country, where he looks for an authority figure who can be distracted enough to give him a starter. Cue Elm: Darius gets Totodile.

As the kid managed to trick him (and the family) to get the starter and kept it hidden til return, Pa decided kid Darius has evolved into Teen Darius so he decided to let him wander around the state and the nearby cities and do fun stuff as long as he keeps close to home and never wanders alone. Darius earns a name at racing competitions and also as a caretaker.
Eventually Ponyta evolves into Rapidash and shows she is badass enough to do both battles and commercial ads, while she actually cares for neither, only racing. Everyone is happy and Darius builds his own small fortune. He buys a Linoone just because everything else gets a discount and teaches him to pick and bring objects (not hard to do, it was a Linoone with Pickup) and act as a bodyguard to Totodile, who acts as a bodyguard to Rapidash, who acts as a bodyguard and clingy Mon to him.

One tragic day, Darius' Rapidash gets in trouble. The "if this goes public she will be unable to race forever and you will be dead anyway so you won't have to care" kind of problem. Darius calls the only person he can trust for that particular kind of trouble, his childhood friend Lou, who arrives armed to the teeth Poké Belt and things only get worse. In the end the problem is solved because of a Power of Love + Power of Friendship + Awesomeness by Analysis + This Is A Drill Deux Ex Machina Lv17 Bard Combo.
Lou goes around planting evidence that nothing happened while at the same time is asked by the police and "feigns" Darius' story is fake because it's so absurd. Darius returns home as if nothing had happened, checks his own small empire, and leaves it to go around and take part in Conference Leagues because he doesn't like to watch the show For the Economics. End of backstory.

Dawn injecting him with some drug that gave him a sex change. They then proceeded to have lesbian orgies with May, Misty, and just about every other female character in the Pokemon universe. The new female-Ash had no interest in battling whatsoever, and loved shopping. Not to mention the lesbian bit.
