If I could add it I would but I can't edit the poll now that it's up.
You can edit a poll once it's been put up. I went and added the 16 option. Or by "can't edit the poll now that it's up" did you mean "we can't add another option because voting is already underway"?

I honestly had no idea we could add or remove options for an existing poll lol.

  • I voted 16, but its close to 18 in my mind. I believe setting arbitrary ages are ineffective because a 16 year old could be more qualified and informed than an 18 year old, but can't vote. Or a 16 year old will just vote for what their parents want while the 18 year makes his or her's own decision.

I really do not care, but I'm 16 so make it 16? lol.

I remember when I was 16, and I was much less informed about politics and had much less life experience than I do now. I would not recommend allowing a 16 year old me to vote. Not that I would have considered myself informed enough to vote, anyways.

  • In case anyone missed it, the voting age was confirmed at 18. I'll be adding that to the "constitution"/bill of rights I posted earlier shortly.

  • Active Political Phase

Alright guys, we more or less have the workings of our government sorted out now, so we're entering what I'm calling the "Active political phase" of the event. What this means is that rather than trying to decide how our government functions, we'll use the guidelines we have laid out in order to more or less act out the role of the PCNation's federal government.

During this phase of the event, you can PM either myself or Nah proposals for bills you'd like to see passed as law in our country. Once we have some bills one of us will post one in here to be discussed/debated and then eventually voted on. We'll only be tackling one bill at a time to make things easier on ourselves.

In addition to this, you and other members may form political parties together. At this stage it doesn't really mean much, it's just an acknowledgement of your similar political goals and intent to support each other in debates over bills. Later on they might become more important however!

Please note that if you propose a bill, you are expected to take part in its discussion. Similarly, if you form a political party, to remain listed as such you'll need to maintain some semblance of activity.

That's all for now, looking forward to entering into this phase with you all!

  • Alright guys, here's the first bill proposal.

    Biogoji said:
My second thing I would like to do is to a propose a bill to passed. The bill is called The National Firearms Argeement and as you may guess it is a bill that's task is to control Firearms in our nation.

The bill is based off the the act that was passed in Australia in 1996 following the Port Arthur Massarce, the bill will ban ownership of all Semi-Automatic rifles and all Semi-Automatic and Pump action Shotguns. We would hold a firearm buyback program for the firearms that have been banned where people will be able to exchange them for Cash. The second part of the bill is to create a firearm registerty which includes a 28 day waiting period for the sales of legal fire arm and tightened regulations. To use a gun you must be over the age of tweleve and to actually own the gun you must be eighteen and over, have secure storage for you guns and provide a geuine reason for owning guns.

This should be an interesting one considering our bill of rights.

  • Is it necessary to have a provision limiting gun use to over the age of twelve? Maybe those under twelve can use guns under supervision by someone who's trained and licensed in gun use.

What about owning guns for recreation/sport? Would people be allowed to shoot guns for fun?

I imagine that recreation/sport is probably a "genuine reason". I feel that it is anyway.

Let me set the situation for you it was the 1980s and Gun violence in Australia was on the rise with the Milperra massarce in 1984 and Melbourne's Hoddle and Queen Street Massarces in 198 and NSW's 1991 Strahfield Massarce. The rise of Gun Violence contuined into the 1990s but nothing much was done about the violence until 1996 when 28 year old Martin Bryant went to the Port Arthur tourist site in Tasmania and wnet on a massarce using a Carbine Rifle and killing 35 people it was the deadiest massarce Australia had seen and a few days later Australian Prime minsterJohn Howard stepped up to a podlum wearing a bullet proof vest under his jacket and announced the gun laws that I am trying to pass on this day. Since the port arthur massarce Australia has not had one mass shooting,,,,Yes there has been gun violence such as the Monash univertsy shootings and the Lindt Cafe siegre but in both of those events only two civlians died now while it's bad for any civlian to have their life taken in a shooting but let's be honest if these people had acess to the guns that Howard banned in 1996 the death toll would have been much higher. Some people say guns don't kill people, people kill people and yes People will always find a way to kill eachother but if two people decided to go on a massarce with one of them going to one location and the other going to a different location and one took a Machete and the other took a Semi Automatic Carbine rifle I can gurranete you that the one with the Rifle would kill more people in a short time frame and with much more effiecently then the one who used a Machete. Geuine reasons for holding a rifle would include hunting, sporting and self defence as long as the person in poession has a license. I am open to dissccusions over people under the age of tweleve using a gun if supervised.

The first part of the gun bill is abhorrent in my eyes. I'd understand if it included fully automatic weaponry, but the absolute ban of semi-automatic rifles and semi-auto/pump shotguns makes no sense, (especially the shotguns; you can't hunt game birds without birdshot). I'd say revise the bill to instead bane fully automatic guns such as non-Civilian SMGs, LMGs and Assault Rifles. I'd also say that the regulations should be light.

Now, for the political parties, I'd like to launch one myself. The Truce Party of PokeCommunity, which will be a mix of some Socialistic ideals (because some are decent; mainly minimum wage and labor rights) and mainly capitalistic views and very anti-Establishment. Here are the few basic things about the party at the start:

    Spoiler:

That being said, I would hope people would join the party. The overall compass of this party would be moderate right and anti-establishment. I will be putting in our first bill soon.

  • I'll get a political party registry up shortly and your Truce party can be an aspect of it definitely.

Now, onto the Bill. I don't think banning semi-automatic weaponry and pump-shotguns is the issue there. In general I think the less firepower the general public have access to the better. Your average Joe really does not need access to anything more than a simple handgun or hunting rifle. "Lower-grade" weapons kill helpless animals, cardboard cutouts and even people just as effectively as semi-automatics, automatics and pump-shotguns. There is no need to make it any easier to kill things that it would already be.

My main concern with the bill is that it doesn't mention fully-automatic weaponry at all. So whilst it outlaws semi-autos and pump-shotguns whilst still allowing citizens to walk around with an RPG if they want.

My second concern with the bill, is that the mention of background checks/clearance is superfluous considering out Bill of Rights' "Right to Bear Arms" includes a stipulation requiring a background check and police clearance as is. The point about a waiting period is fine by me though. So things I would like to see come from this bill are

    1. Expansion of scope to include not only semi-automatics and pump-shotguns but also any automatic, scoped or high calibre firearms above the necessary "civilian grade". Perhaps we could make things easier for everyone involved by outright categorising what a "civilian grade" firearm is also (a low calibre handgun or rifle, no scope I would prefer).

    2. A statement of exactly how much cash anyone trading in a no longer legal firearm is entitled to.

    3. A stipulation preventing the carrying of a firearm in a public location, concealed or otherwise, outside of professions that warrant the possession of the weapon. This obviously would not extend to licensed firing ranges and in transit to and from said firing ranges.

  • What is the purpose of minimum wage?

What is the purpose of being hard on crime? Is it to send a message or is to minimize social harms to society?

Wouldn't a flat tax disproportionately tax poor people?

@gimmiepie I don't think an RPG counts as a firearm.

I saw the same concerns with the fully-automatic weaponry, as it made no sense to ban semi-automatic weaponry and pump-action shotguns but not ban those assault weapons. However, I don't think that we should also limit our citizens to a measly bolt-action rifle or small handgun. A criminal doesn't care about laws and if a semi-automatic high-caliber rifle gets in their hands, people more people could be massacred. I believe semi-automatic rifles and pump-action shotguns should stay in the hands of the citizens. It would also scare criminals from because anyone could have a semi-automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun in their home. I think the revisions should be so:

    1. A ban of fully-automatic rifles and shotguns, SMGs, LMGs and/or rocket launchers/grenade launchers.
    2. A stipulation that allows conceal-carry of pistols in public locations as long as the person does not have a record of gun violence, armed robbery or other crimes involving guns and/or other weapons but does not allow open-carry.
    3. A stipulation that requires people to get a special license for high-caliber semi-automatic/bolt-action rifles and fully-automatic low-caliber pistols. Requirements for this license should be militia training and no prior criminal record.
    4. Your number 2.

1.What is the purpose of minimum wage?

    2. What is the purpose of being hard on crime? Is it to send a message or is to minimize social harms to society?

    3. Wouldn't a flat tax disproportionately tax poor people?

@gimmiepie I don't think an RPG counts as a firearm.

    1. Minimum wage allows people to at least try to earn enough money to live by themselves.

    2. For being hard on crime, I tend to believe that less gun laws and harsher crime sentences would de-incentivize major crimes like arson, theft, armed robbery, ETC. You wouldn't want to rob a store with a gun if you could get sentenced 25 years, would you?

    3. It is only concerning federal taxes. State/provincial taxes are still debatable and our proposed bill would put a cap on the total amount of state/provincial taxes (however this part will probably require the states' consent), which means states/provinces can have income taxes that can factor in, but they will be rather limited. I am still thinking of potential brackets, but I do this this is reasonable:
    Spoiler:

The main reasoning for this is less taxes overall, which can encourage economic growth.

  • Political Party Registry

Spoiler: The Truce Party of PokeCommunity
The Truce Party of PokeCommunity, which will be a mix of some Socialistic ideals (because some are decent; mainly minimum wage and labor rights) and mainly capitalistic views and very anti-Establishment. Here are the few basic things about the party at the start:

-The party believes in a minimum wage that is for the most part, about nine or ten dollars in US currency.
-The party is against taxation and wants a flat tax that taxes the population 15% (for the federal taxes) and low taxes on businesses and corporations to incentivize economic growth.
-They want a welfare program put in place that is only meant as a safety net once you lose your job. *You will not be able to receive welfare checks after a period of time (a year at most).
-The party will always be against any bill that goes against peoples' rights.
-The party believes that sovereign states in this country have rights of their own.
-The party is against war unless it is a defensive.
    -Labor rights. 'Nuff said.
-Free trade is encouraged with this party.
-The party views everyone as equals regarding race, sex, et cetera. The party is very liberal in this respect (and no, not in a social collectivist kind of way.)
-The party is harsh on crime.

Spoiler: The Socialist Party of PCNation
The Socialist Party of PCNation aims to combine socialist economic practices with a focus on sustainability, and equality. The Socialist Party believes in a focus on the nation as an entity over the individual and seeks to place power in the hands of the people, not in the hands of corporations.

-The Party believes in a minimum wage of $10-$12US
-The Party believes in taxation according to income. The more you earn the more you should contribute to the Nation, however taxation should never infringe on the lifestyle of the people.
-The Party believes in an efficient and effective welfare system where
-Those who are studying full-time are entitled to minimum-wage earning in order to focus on education.
-Those who are between jobs are entitled to support as a safety net. During this time the government can provide aid in finding a job.
-There is a training scheme where those who cannot find work can be trained and then employed in government agencies.
-Those who are unable to work due to disability or illness will be provided minimum-wage allowances.
-The Party believes in a regulated market to prevent large corporations from developing monopolies.
-The Party is against privatisation and believes in a society where financial status does not limit access to healthcare of education.
-The Party believes that immigration should be strictly regulated, but that the rights of refugees should not be infringed. Those seeking asylum are not criminals.

    Spoiler: The PokeCommunity Federation Party
Also I myself would like to form a Political party as I mentioned to you in my PM I would like to call it the PC Federation Party and here are some of my party's basic views.

-Free Trade between our Nation and others is encouraged to promote a trading and connected world.
-War is only necessary if it is for our defence or if our allies desperately need our help in conflict, we believe diplomacy is overall the best way to solve conflict but if all diplomacy methods fail then war may have to be used as a last resort, if we were to go to war I will make sure that we keep our operations as strategic and tactical as possible
-If a person loses their job or is needed to take time off whether it be maternally leave or serious injury they are eligible to receive welfare checks until they are able to return to work, people who have lost their jobs would also receive assistance to find a new job alongside the money.
-Garbage would be used in waste to energy power plants to help power our nation and get rid of useless garbage instead of filling landfills.
-Renewable energy would be something that my party would be looking into in order to sources of renewable energy that are efficient and generate enough power to one day take the place of no renewable energy.
-My party will crack down on crime with my proposed gun laws being our first step of fighting crime.
-Refugees will only be taken if we are in a position to be able to support them and our own people who will have priority.
-Elderly people who have helped to build our nation in their prime will be looked after with people who are on age petitions having their heating during winter paid for and inheritance will not be taxed as I believe we owe to hard working people that their money goes to the people they want it to go to and we shouldn't interfere in that matter.
-We will attempt to build up relations with other countries with this political party already having ideas for possible countries to establish relations with. We personally believe that we should have a clean slate with most of the world's countries if this government is elected however we will have reservations about countries like North Korea for example.
-We will only spy on people who we have suspicious of being involved with terror groups, everyday civilians who have done nothing wrong and do not deserve to have their piracy taken away from them in a big brother spying operation.
    - The party is Anti-Internet censorship and supports Net Neutrality.
    - Healthcare is something that should be offered to our citizens with the choice of private health care or government run public health care.
    - My party would also like to look into organised racial harmony events communities as a way to fight racism and racial discrimination.

    1. Oh damn it I knew I forgot something, When I wrote it the bill up when I sent it you I was basing it off the bill Australia John Howard made in 96 and I wasn't thinking about fully automatics as in Australia all fully automatics have been banned since the 30s so that's my bad.

    2. I don't have an extact number as I can't really find any records from 96 to base a price off but it would depend on the weapon itself, I do believe this is something that should be discussed if anyone wants to throw any numbers around but I myself will be working a price list that I will post later.

    3. You know I agree with this. If you're not a Police Officer, Security Guard or transporting a gun to or from a shooting range or hunting reserve then why do you need to be carrying a gun around when you go down the street.
