Creating compressed cries and inserting them

  • Hi guys!

You might know me as the guy who is working on Artificial Red. (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=360603)

Now, I was working on inserting X Y cries for all 721 Pokémon, untill I figured out I wasn't going to make it with the 16mb of expanded space I had. So, I found a way to compress the cries and insert them.

In this tutorial, inserting is done in exactly the same way as in Chaos Rush' tutorial:
    http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=293830
    So, credits to Chaos Rush.

This method allowed me to make the cries take up roughly 7 times less space, so it might be good to know.

To convert the cries, you will need AVS Audio Converter (or another audio converter if you know what you're doing).

Open it up, import your cry audio file, then click the .wav tab. Here, select:
    Codec: PCM
    Channels: 1/0 - mono
Bitrate: 88 Kbps (it will show this automatically)
    Sample Rate: 11025 Hz
    Sample Size: 8 bit

Then, set the destination folder, convert them, and you're good to go.

In Sappy, don't change anything when importing the sample. (Freq will be 11025)

    You still need to change "20 3C 00 00" to "00 3C 00 00".

Now, in my testing, the cries don't sound that different this way (as opposed to my high quality originals). Some cries I can't even distinguish. They do tend to sound more like the original Gen I-III cries in game. (I am inserting X Y Gen I-III cries anyway though)

Now, a little goodie, all X Y cries, originals and converted ones to use up less space, made with the method of this short tutorial:

this is great so basiclly what youre saying is that the quality of the cries is almost if not the exact same as the xy quality cries with the advantage of saving 7 times more space
