PC Battle Server Info & Questions

In this thread you can find rules and other information about the PC Battle Server. You may also ask questions or give feedback related to the server (i.e. "Is the server down?").

Information

— The PC Battle Server can be accessed via this link.
We currently support Pokémon Showdown as our battle simulator.

— Type "/commands" in the chat for help.
It will provide you commands that can change your nickname, avatar, and such. There are also commands exclusive to our server. The "pc" command provides information about the PC Battle Server, the "eng" command displays a warning for foreign speakers, "reglink" gives the user the registration link, and "passlink" provides the user the link for changing a password. Ask in this thread if you need any more help regarding the server.

— Use the PC Battle Server Alts thread for finding out who everyone is on the forums.

Rules

The rules are up to a staff member's interpretation. If you disagree with how a server staff member has enforced these rules, contact Forever or Wolflare.

— Do not be disrespectful to others.
Do not flame or troll anyone. Do not harass anyone, or make rude, disrespectful, or negative comments towards someone (regardless if that person is on the server or not). Do not egg on members that are harassing you; please ignore their messages and report them. If a new user asks a question, please do not troll them and give them a straight answer. You may joke around with regulars, but please be civil.

— Do not post inappropriate content.
Do not link to pornography, hentai, or any other sexually explicit content. Do not directly refer to sexual activity. Do not make gory, vulgar, or distasteful comments. Do not make comments in excessive detail over indirect references to sexual activity or any body part that could be deemed sexual. The same topics must be kept at a minimum, and may never be the main subject of discussion. Do not use usernames that directly reference the aforementioned details.

— Do not spam.
Do not repeat the same message over and over, including battle requests. Do not post links to other websites for the purpose of advertising unless they were asked for. Do not link to shock sites. Do not break up your message into multiple lines. Do not post massive messages that take up a large part of the chat (use Pastebin instead). Do not broadcast an informational command (i.e. "!data") if it is unrelated to the current topic or question; please use a "/" instead of a "!". All of this is considered spam (meaningless or annoying messages that usually have no bearing on the topic of discussion).

— Do not speak in any language other than English.
However, you may talk in another language if it is done through private messages.

— Do not threaten to enforce disciplinary action on someone if you are not one of the staff (aka mini-mod).
However, this does not mean that you may not tell someone to stop breaking the rules. Just do not pretend you are part of the server staff.

— Do not openly oppose a staff member's actions.
You may ask to stop being muted or kicked via private message, but please do not bring it into the chat. If you are having issues with a staff member, contact Forever or Wolflare. Do the same to appeal disciplinary action or report power abuse.

— Do not ask to be promoted.
Server admins and leaders decide who to promote, and no amount of asking will raise your chances. In fact, asking makes you seem desperate and worsens your chances at getting promoted. Read this post if you need advice on getting promoted.

— Do not use excessive formatting.
Only use formatting like ALL CAPS, bold, italic, and /me sparingly.

You may appeal any sort of disciplinary action or report power abuse by contacting Forever or Wolflare.

Ladder

Our ladder can be accessed via the "Look for a battle" button. You can look for rated battles using that button assuming there is other people searching as well. Bear in mind that battles started through challenges do not count towards your ladder ranking. There are two Community Emblems that you can receive by using the ladder.

Pokémon of the Day

POTD is a feature on the server. A Pokémon is picked each day at around 11 PM EST using an RNG. Once selected, that Pokémon will always be on either teams (or both) in Random Battles until the next POTD is chosen.

Minor update to the rules: profanity is no longer allowed on the server. Simply put, PC itself doesn't allow it, so the battle server shouldn't either. I have never seen any good come out of swearing on the server anyway.

edit: Swearing is no longer banned, but excessive swearing is not.

Some of you may be wondering what happened to everyone's user statuses. Nica and I agreed to put more thought into server promotions and be more selective when it comes to picking out server staff. Voice will not be given out to everything that moves for example. Additionally, the first batch of promotions will be done on the next Community Day (sometime before Christmas), which gives us enough time to thoroughly discuss these promotions and figure out who is a "regular." Hopefully you guys will understand!

I just wanted to post about doubles randbats (and VGC) support on the server now given that a lot of the regs online just then didn't know about it and it's something people ~crave~. Just challenge someone and it'll be near the bottom of the formats list. Plus it is the INFO thread technically!

It turns out that the ladder has been working for who knows how long, but some people are still unable to see the ratings for some reason. Nonetheless, the ladder-related Community Emblems will start being given out soon. Just note that the "Ladder Ace" emblem won't literally be handed out to anyone that gets into the top three because it's incredibly easy to do that on smaller leaderboards. There will likely be a restriction where the top ten can't be provisional (the text can't be faded) and they have to have a rating of +1500. I'm not sure how that would work out, so I'm holding off until the ladder gets more use. Additionally, the "Hall of Fame" from the previous ladder will likely be revived, but with a different name to avoid confusion from PCL's Hall of Fame.

Connect to the server and then simply ask for a battle. You can click someone's name and press "Challenge" to challenge a specific person, or you can click "Look for a battle" at the side and if someone else is also searching for a battle, you'll be put in battle against each other. Not everyone wants to battle all of the time and it's most random battles that are searched for at the moment, so if you don't find a battle right away just be patient and you will :)

This will also be put into effect. Basically, it's an archive of the top 5 at the end of each month. Hopefully the leaderboard will change a little over time so that it won't be the same people again and again.

All of this only applies to the Random Battle ladder, as the other ladders are not used enough.

Just a small update: a user needs to complete 50 rated battles before they can get the "Ladder Addict" emblem. Previously, there was no specific requirement.

First of all, this isn't Pokemon Online, it's Pokemon Showdown, a better online server imo.

And this is a simulator, it simulates Pokemon battles by having them online, they is a Hackmon tier & sometimes, Wi-Fi tournaments but this is simply building a team with the teambuilder provided & battling other users, simple ;D

The server can not only be used for battles, but it also has a chat feature where you can chat with fellow PC members.

You can also build teams or even try Random Battles.

There's also different user ranks there:

~ - Administrators
% - Drivers
+ - Voiced

Those without a symbol near their name are regular members, which are therefore the lowest in the rank. There's also rules you have to follow there, alongside the global PC rules.

Ah yes but that's just Hikari-knowledge, there are also ranks such as......

Just basically look at the link above if you have trouble using the teambuilder.

Remember that you cannot import teams from your Pokemon games.

Hi, I was wanting to connect on the battle server, and while I can get onto the Lobby Screen, when I try to enter a username, I get an error message saying I'm not authenticated, and then asks for a password. I've tried my PC password to no avail.

I've been reading some of the articles in the forum, but still can't seem to find a solution...

What username are you trying to use?

Pokemon Showdown has a 'universal network' so if I register the name "Fire Flyy" no one else can use it on any server if they don't have the password that I originally registered with.

So apparently there are timestamps, which can appear ugly. If anyone wants to turn them off it's with the following commands:

To turn them off - /timestamps off
To put the timestamps on in minutes - /timestamps minutes
And to put the timestamps on in seconds - /timestamps seconds

They'll appear as default when you enter the server, which is apparently a new thing!

(This is like the first thing I've ever discovered how to turn off/on without checking somewhere, I'm so proud of myself tbh).

I haven't discussed what action can be taken yet in regards to it but I want to let you guys know that being voice, and being able to use !data is a privilege, and shouldn't be abused. Only use it if you need to check the data of something, not spam it whenever you get a chance. As you'd know, the data command uses up a lot of screen space, and can disrupt conversations if used too often. Keep that in mind, or we might need to work on a way to disable the command if this keeps up.

Also, on another note, I noticed there's ways to allow and block challenges, which can be useful to challenge spammers that some of you face.

To block: /blockchallenges
To allow: /allowchallenges

This can be avoided with the use of /data, which everyone can use and NOT disrupt the chat, just high-lightening this part.

/data can be used to check well, data and it'll only appear to you, not to everyone at the server.

Voiced doesn't mean staff, it's from the Driver rank onward where you are staff. Remember, any bold name member on the list is the server staff, and Voiced may only be able to help when staff aren't around as I figured out. They can help people out, but must not perform tasks that only staff are allowed to do, sorta like the "no mini-modding" rule on PC.

Even if you are voiced, you can still be penalized the same way regular members are, such as getting banned, muted etc.

If you are voiced you are NOT on staff, just pointing this out.

Still, it's not a big deal if say, voiced members reminds others to not speak a foreign language in this English-speaking chat. They can still there to help remind people of the rules, but not so drastically as to tell people "DON'T DO THIS OR ELSE YOU'LL GET MUTED" when that's actually the drivers/admins job to step in.

Just an update on the avoiding challenges command,

It's now changed to:

To avoid - "/away"
To turn off the avoiding challenges - "/back"

There's also now the option to add highlights to your name, so now if anyone says your name, or your nick you can read up and see it easily highlighted.

This can be done with "/highlight add, golurk", for example and it'll highlight that every time it is said. Oh and to remove highlights, type "/highlight remove, golurk"
