    1. Great region and character designs
    2. 2 Regions, something never done in any other Pokemon game until HG/SS
    3. Some previously unusable Pokemon from R/B/Y (such as Koffing, who didn't learn any moves until level 31) can now learn moves much earlier
    4. Red and Blue returning from the old games
    5. Best starters of all the Pokemon games
    6. Superb Sprites
    7. The fact that you can obtain BOTH version mascots without the need to trade
8.The pure nostalgia of fighting the Kanto Gym Leaders once more
    9. Stadium 2 :D

  • 1 - Because Ho-oh and Lugia were awesome Legendaries.
2 - Because Morty was one of the most cool Gym Leaders *ever*.
3 - Because Ecruteak City was the most mysterious place in Pokemon history.
4 - Because Sudowoodo was an awesome twist on Pokemon.
5 - Because Typhlosion, Meganium and Feraligatr were actually cool-looking third-forms.
6 - The Pokemon were all original and not clones of previous Pokemon (Foongus and Klang anyone?)
7 - No words could ever describe walking through some grass only for a Legendary Dog to pounce out on you. That feeling of exilleration mixed with "Oh my god, that's no Furret!" was a great mix, haha.
8 - I'm sure it's been said, but, Red Gyarados was cool beans. Haha.
9 - Kurt and his *amazing* variety of Poke Balls. Even to this day I revel at the likes of the Love Ball and Heavy Ball. GameFreak really outdid themselves with that idea, it's a massive shame we don't see most of these Pokeballs in the newer generations.
10 - The Gym Leaders and Elite Four were an incredibly mixed bag, and a great deal of fun. I had loads of fun doing the Elite Four over and over.

    Awesome Thread. :)

  • 1. Because I could return to Kanto all over again after beating the Elite Four.
    2. Because Typlosion was awesome.
    3. Because Lugia and Ho-oh were awesome.
    4. Because the new Pokemon were neat looking- even if I was used to 151.
    5. Dude. Day and Night. Enough said.
    6. Because with Crystal came the first ever female playable character.
    7. The Red Gyarados was an awesome way to introduce shinies.
    8. Because of the legendary dogs.
    9. Because of the Daycare center.
    10. Because of Red.

    So much nostalgia!!

    1. So many Pokemon/cries/other things sent shivers down my spine when I was little. The surprise legendary beast encounters being one of them!
    2. Crystal's animations were great!
    3. You're not done after you beat the E4 - there's another whole region to explore!
    4. The best music out of all the Pokemon games - Goldenrod, the credits theme, among so many others!
    5. Feraligatr and Typhlosion were beasts! They were the best bros I ever had.
    6. Challenging Gym Leaders (Whitney and her Miltank, Clair and her Kingdra, etc)
    7. First game to introduce day and night
    8. It has a lot of nostalgic value for me. I distinctly remember loving that game so much that I was playing it on the way to school and was caught in a drawn-out battle between my Togepi and Morty's Gengar. (Ghost vs Normal is not a good combination)
    9. Suicune is one of my favorite Pokemon and my favorite Water Pokemon.
    10. Red.

    1. Has lots of great and rather mysterious pokemon.
    2. 16 Gym Leaders spreading over 2 large regions.
    3. Kicked off the Battle _____ craze.
    4. Much less glitches that Gen I.
    5. Shiny Pokemon.
    6. Has the best pokemon sprites of any generation.
    7. The time affects what happens in game. A great gimmick that is still around in the games

  • 1) I grew up with that game! Looking back, it's full of nostelgia for me.
    2) The music. That's part of the nostelgia I guess.
    3) It was my first game, so I was a n00b then. Everything was so new to me. So mysterious.
    4) TWO regions. Even though in the originals, Kanto wasn't too flash . . .
    5) The awesome legends. Especially Ho-oh. Also, I didn't know how to catch them, so they were super rare for me.
    6) Eggs. I was like "what's going to hatch from this?"
    7) Great map.
    8) Day n' night. It was fun staying up to catch certain pokemon.
    9) All the changes made to Kanto. Don't know why, but they were cool.
    10) All the new Pokemon :D

Pokemon Gold was my first game ever and I still remember the day I recieved a copy, which I still have today.

    1. One of my more fond memories was fighting the gym leaders even though I only got to Whitney ( I was a young'n at the time ) I still loved to test my strength against these leaders.

    2. The places, I used to hang around Azalea and Goldenrod alot, mainly Azalea because I loved to headbutt the trees to find unique pokemon, and Goldenrod because I didn't know what to do with the Sudowoodo sitting about outside of Goldenrod.

    3. The music, I used to always have my volume up high to listen to the music in Violet city, Goldenrod city and Azalea.

    4. My first team members, Typhlosion and Togetic, my starter and the first pokemon I had gotten via an egg, which blew my mind at the time. I thought Togepi was super rare, which it was so I just had to use it. That save file has been corrupt for a few years now, but I still remember them.

    5. Just the Pokemon in general, I always remembered Spinarak and Wooper. They were two Pokemon that couldn't get outta my mind, and I believe I even caught a Spinarak, but no Wooper because they only came out at night, which was trouble because I was Four years old so I was in bed by then.

    6. The routes, all the routes in between cities and towns, it was exciting to see what Pokemon and trainers would await my arrival, who knows I could encounter a new, rare, Pokemon.

    7. Ilex forest, that place has many memories actually, one of them was being completley lost in that place, and the other my first shiny encounter, Pineco. After I learned about shinies I had known that I had an oddly coloured Pineco in my Pokemon box, which meant I had a Shiny, cool!

    8. The cover art, Ho-Oh blew my little toddler mind, I wanted to have that Pokemon. My friend had told me that Ho-Oh couldn't be received until later on in the game, but I couldn't progress further because of the Sudowoodo blocking my path, which my friend had ever so nicely gotten me through that part and caught the Sudowoodo, which I ended up using.

    9. Discovering that a new Pokemon game was coming out, Pokemon Crystal. My friend, who I am still good friends with today had gotten it, I was jealous. He had been playing it all day and was already passed the Sudowoodo, already farther than me. He had a Meganium and a Slowpoke. I thought Slowpoke was awesome and he showed me how to get one, which was another member of my Gold team.

    10. And finally, Generally playing it. I mean, I went everywhere with my Gameboy and I remember a memory of my Mother who had been getting surgery on her back ( shes fine now ) and sat with her in the room as she rested and I had my Gameboy and Pokemon Gold there with me. I didn't like her room though because there was someone in there with her who had been extremely mentally handicapped and had been having seizures and making noises which scared me.

And those are all of my memories from my Pokemon Gold game.

  • 1: Gold and Stadium 2 caused me to become friends with someone who is still a good friend of mine

2: Goldenrod city. Love the theme and the fact that it is a huge city

3: Red was a huge challenge and reminded me of my Yellow version

4: National Park had a great theme and made the game seem more...realisitc

5: This game had a good amount of surf routes, and was in my opinion a good balance between the lack of them in BW and the overdose of them in RSE

6: Whirlpool seemed like the best concept ever when I first played the game. Just think about it, you're surfing through a giant Whirlpool which according to the anime, are even larger than a ship.

7: Game Corner. Awesome theme and awesome slots

8: The Pokemon in this game seemed more realistic than in other games.

9: Donphan, my all time favorite pokemon, was introduced in this generation.

10: The soundtrack. Pure, 8-bit, goodness.
