  • I used to try and get my pokemon every possible ribbon in game on my platinum version. The only one I managed to do that with was my shiny charizard from what I remember. Yet, every time I wanted to trade somebody it in exchange for their shiny, they would always ask, "does it have ribbons? If so, then I don't want it."

So my question is this, why don't other people want my ribbons on the pokemon I wanted to trade them? Is it just aesthetically ugly to everybody? Or is it more of a "uniqueness" thing, like if how they did not get the ribbons themselves, it's worthless? Let me know because it's been eating away at me since my platinum days.

  • To be honest with you, I don't accept other people's ribbons because I like the Pokémon to be original from the very moment it was captured.

Ribbons, IMO, are for showing off to friends.

  • For me, accepting a Pokemon with ribbons is like accepting this dusty, old trophy. It's someone else's achievement and not mine. Ribbons show a person's achievement so people could be envious. Or they just don't like Contests.

Personally the can be fun to get but they just seem like something to add more content.

  • Personally, I don't mind if a pokemon has won ribbons or hasn't. I think some just prefer to have Pokemon who have some contest capability or just like to collect ribbons. Really they're just a little reward and accolade, so if I do recieve one by trade, I'm happy. All in all, ribbons don't bother me, I just prefer to focus on the movesets and natures that'll impact the pokemon's performance in battling not in contests.

  • It's probably cause if a pokémon has lots of ribbons then they'll have bonded strongly with the previous trainer - if it has no ribbons then earning them yourself is your own personal accomplishment :)

Personally I love collecting ribbons - I won a couple of Ultra Rank Contests today in Diamond :D

I agree, it kinda goes back to that affection for your Pokemon thing. People probably don't want a Pokemon that's been on an entire journey with someone else, for pure sentimental reasons. But what do I know. I've never traded with anyone in my life haha.

  • I agree with the past comments. Ribbons are also another side game people can play. It is also a good memory to look back on.
