    I prefer trucks.
1998 Chevy Silverado with 4" lift that I use for mudding.
Mudding > Good Milage imo. 'MURICA!

For good milage though you need to be looking at mini coupes. Kia Optima's are pretty nifty at that. Or pretty much anything Toyota. Especially Corollas.

Trucks are resilient and will last you awhile and, depending on what kind of roads you have around you, are sturdy enough to get you around rugged terrain pretty quickly. The gas mileage is often poor, though, especially on older trucks, so don't hope to save very much money on gas with something like a truck!

If you want good mileage, I would recommend the Smart For-two... problem is, you will not pick up chicks with that car, ha-ha. On a more serious note, am bit of a car enthusiast myself and there are quite a few reasonably priced cars out there. You could go with a Chevy Spark or Ford Focus unless you're more into the idea of a hybrid, you could get a Chevy Volt or Ford Fusion. Chances are, you won't really know what to get until you go look because of price and whatnot.

Then again, maybe you want a sporty electric car and have a bit of money to put down on that good mileage, the Tesla Roadster is for you and electric cars are very smooth as there are no gears.

A lot would go in to determining the "best" car for you specifically. The above recommendations are great.

    Also consider
    - budget (gas and payment)
There seems to be a sliding scale... newer car, higher payment, older car, lesser payment, possibly more maintenance/repair.

How many people do you normally travel with? Do you normally fly solo, or do you need a large back seat to comfortably fit 3?

Are your decisions going to be performance based, or more every day driver?

Personally, I have had many cars and am happy with my current Civic Si sedan.

It gets decent mileage, (~27 mpg) and is still fun to drive. 200hp, 6 speed is nice, but of course a compromise. It's fast for it's price range, but is by no means a sports car or a gas guzzler. Compared to the next step up in tuner cars evo, wrx, etc. it is cheaper, gets better mileage but is slower. So everything comes down to a compromise.

I've had others to include firebird, cougar, jeep, vw gti, sonata, another civic si and a sports bike. I had the civic earlier on in the group, but I am now back to having my second one.

    : )
