  • Design a Hoenn Mega Evolution!

Getting anxious waiting for the release of ORAS? Need something to do that will take your mind off of how far away November is, and have a lot of fun while you're doing it? Well, look no further! Welcome to an event that pits the best designs of new Mega evolutions against each other in a battle of realistic, logical, and strategic components! Here, you'll be creating a concept for a Mega evolution of any existing Hoenn-native Pokemon, whilst following the rules listed below.

    sceptile.png
    swampert.png

    Rules:

    Please Read First!
    • Pokemon must be native to Hoenn. (i.e. Flygon) There are a few exceptions: Magnezone, Rhyperior, Roserade, Froslass, Probopass, Gallade, and Dusknoir.
    • You can only create a Mega evolution for the final form of an evolution line.
    • If typing/ability are changed, explain how it pertains to the design and use of the Pokemon.

    Form:

    Username: Self explanatory.
Pokemon: The Pokemon that will be receiving a Mega evolution.
Type: For changing the type of the Pokemon.
Stat Changes*: Any of the Pokemon's stats that are buffed.
Ability: If a new ability is created/an existing one that is different from the Pokemon's regular form.
New Moves: Any new moves added to the Pokemon's move pool.
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Self explanatory.
Description: Brief account of the Mega evolution's design.

    * - Remember that all Mega evolutions get a 100 BST point boost that can be spread to any stat except HP.

    Username: Endless.
    Pokemon: Exploud.
    Type: Dark.
Stat Changes: +76 Special Attack, +12 Defense, and +12 Special Defense.
Ability: Mind Scare (decreases opponent's Sp Att. stat by one stage).
New Moves: Giga Voice (a more powerful Hyper Voice attack, which has 90% chance of confusing the foe).
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Explodite, and could be found in Victory Road.
Description: Its body structure will remain pretty much same, aside from arms, which will shrink. Its mouth will widen, but it would not be very noticeable. Also, its color-scheme will darken, to represent its new typing.

    Pokemon: whiscash
    Type: Water and ground
Stat Changes: -30 speed + 50 attack +20 special attack and 30 to both defences
    Ability: bulletproof
    New Moves: None
Name & Location of Mega stone: whiscasite and it would be located in the corner of the water in petalburg if you observed a tree.
Description: it would get thicker as its defences increase, become a darger shade of blue and its w on its forehead would bend back, making it look like a crown. It would also gain sharp tipped protrousions from its body.

    (Lol i know it's bad)

    Pokemon: Flygon

    Type: Ground/Dragon

    Stat Changes: +45 Atk, +15 Def, +10 Sp.Def, +30 Spd (80 HP/ 145 Atk/ 95 Def/ 80 Sp.Atk/ 90 Sp.Def/ 130 Spd)

    Ability: Tinted Lens

    New Moves:
-Sand Tornado (Ground/Physical, 90 BP, 100 Acc, 10 PP. The user spins itself into a tornado and strikes the target. This attack ignores immunities from typing, abilities or items.)
    -Dragon Dance

Name & Location of Mega Stone: Flygonite. Obtained by beating the Trick House 15 times.

    Description:
Features: Most noticeable would be the change on its lenses' shape; it converges into spikey shades (a la Gar Glasses). Its wings double in number and become longer and sleeker, and its arms grow slightly buffer. Its body is accented by red linings from the neck and arms to the feet and tail.

    Competitive Potential:
Flygon has always been hindered with mediocre stats despite its good typing. Not to mention that Garchomp and Zygarde, who share the same typing, outclass Flygon. However, having a mega gives it the niche it deserves to have a chance in the OU metagame:

Dragon Dance. The time for Flygon to get this move is long overdue. Getting this move gives it a chance to effectively sweep, since it loses its role of being a scarfed pivot due to carrying a megastone. Coupled with favorable 145 Atk/ 135 Spd stats, Mega Flygon will hit fast and hard.

Tinted Lens. Basically makes x2 resisted moves do normal damage, while 4x resisted moves do 2x resisted damage. Combined with Dragon Dance and Sand Tornado, everything will be severely dented unless you're Parasect(and even then, Mega Flygon outspeeds and OHKO's with a +1 U-turn or Outrage).

Sand Tornado. This attack's effect basically makes no one immune to its damage (not even your triple-immune Rotom-Fan with Air Balloon). While the 90 BP is a step back from what Earthquake can offer, a niche that lets it hit common OU Flying-types and levitators cannot be scoffed at.

  • Question, does the mega we make have to be something that doesn't already have a mega?

Nope! Because there have been two Megas made for one Pokemon in the past, like Charizard, I decided to allow you guys to go for something similar should you choose to do so. Whoever you choose must be from Hoenn though!

ok wait, we don't have to draw or smth?

No, you don't. If you decide to, that's fine, but having a visual won't give you an advantage and not having one won't give you a disadvantage. The competition is centered around the concept of a Mega.

    Am I doing this right?

Stat Changes: Sp Atk +60, Sp Def +20, Def +20
    Ability: Solid Rock
    New Moves: Eruption
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Magcargonite. Obtainable in Fiery Path.
Description: Most noticeable change would be that the Magma on its body turned a light bluish color; its shell would double in size, heightening its defensive stats, and Mega Magcargo's body would be so hot that even most Fire Types couldn't come in contact with it.

Basically, Mega Magcargo would be great for Trick Room teams because of its still horrid speed.

  • Seems I won't have to draw, although I'd still try if I did.

    Username: gimmepie
    Pokemon: Altaria
    Type: Dragon/Flying
    Stat Changes*: HP 75 / Atk 70 / Def 110 / Sp. Atk 110 / Sp. Def 125 / Spe 100 (+20 Def, +40 Sp. Atk, +20 Sp. Def, +20 Spe = 100 extra)
    Ability: Magic Guard
New Moves: Air Slash, Calm Mind, Defog
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Altarialite (located on route 115 - the top left part of the Hoenn region where primarily flying types are able to be caught.)

    Description:

Appearance - Mega-Altaria follows more of a phoenix motif. Altarias body colour will become a darker, more fearsome shade of blue. It's beak will become slightly thinner and longer, also becoming a slightly darker shade (of grey) along with the patches on its cheeks. Mega-Altaria gains a third strand to its crest and larger and more angular eyes.

Mega-Altaria's wings no longer join at the front, becoming larger flowing wings emanating from its back (keeping the cloud-like appearance but giving the body a sleeker and more majestic look). Once mega-evolved its original tail will become a long cloud-like tail similar in appearance to its wings. Mega-Altaria's legs will also become slightly longer with more predatory feet tipped with talons (think like an eagle or falcon... or dragon).

The end result should be a more majestic and fearsome design that relates to a phoenix motif, its dragon typing and its new-found power.

Uses - Whilst it lacks the all around amazing offenses or crazy bulk of some mega-evolutions, Mega-Altaria possesses a fairly balanced and tank-like BST spread that can be further enhanced through EVs. To coincide with its high def and Sp. Def, Mega-Altaria also has access to Cotton Guard which immensely boosts physical defense as well as Calm Mind which gives it a notable Sp. Def boost as well. Roost allows M-Altaria to replenish its sub-par HP so it can make full use of it's high defensive stats. Altaria also has access to Haze which negates stat boosts, Mist the prevents stats and safeguard that shields your team from status conditions.

In addition to its good defensive stats, M-Altaria also has a pretty good Sp. Atk that can become deadly when boosted through Calm Mind. Access to Air Slash gives it a solid special Flying STAB (I thought Hurricane would be getting kind of OP) to use alongside of its powerful special dragon STAB moves, Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor. In addition to this M-Altaria also has access to a wide range of special coverage moves such as flamethrower, fire blast, Solarbeam, Ice Beam and Moonblast.

M-Altaria is more effective in the current meta than Latios as a special attacker and defogger. This is largely due to its ability that allows it to avoid being damaged by SR (to which it once was crippled by) on the switch in so it can removed the hazard with defog without suffering in the process. The damage it would likely receive on the turn it used defog would largely be counteracted by its higher special defenses. Latios is more powerful an attacker but it lacks the staying power afforded by higher defenses and fears knock off and sucker punch which are nothing more than an annoyance to M-Altaria.

M-Altaria also has uses on Sun teams. Not only does it have access to solarbeam and fire moves that are boosted by sunlight M-Altaria also counters threats of flying, grass and water types that sun teams face. Unlike grass pokemon, Altaria takes neutral damage from flying on its already high defenses and can then easily make use of the typically low defenses of flying types. M-Altaria is resistant to water which would otherwise hinder the fire-types of sun teams and also resists the boosted fire moves used by the open taking minimal damage with its good defenses. As an added bonus, on a sun team M-Altaria murders those pesky Huge Power Azumarills that other dragons must fear.

M-Altaria is able to go toe-to-toe with a many of the other megas and if it didn't make OU its domain it would wreak havoc on the lower tiers. Perish song is available as a nasty surprise for when it eventually is going to go down.

It's not unbalanced though having to flee should it come face to face with faster dragons or ice-types or many fairies, especially Azumarill if it doesn't have the benefit of the sun.

Name & Location of Mega Stone: Cacturnite. Found in the Scorched Slab of Route 120, in place of the TM Sunny Day, which would be moved to a different location.
Description: Cacturne will earn a sword and a shield made of steel, as well a chestplate, gauntlets, boots, and elbow/knee pads to make it look like a knight. The armor would be gray, and Cacturne would get a helmet instead of the hat it has. It would get fingers on it's hands so it could hold the sword.

    Pokemon: Gallade
Stat Changes* (in order of HP/Attack/Defense/Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense/Speed):

    Original > Mega:
    -68 > 68
    -125 > 165
    -65 > 75
    -65 > 65
    -115 > 125
    -80 > 120

(note: decided to be slightly original with the stat changes to slightly differentiate between Mega Gardevoir and Gallade)

Ability: Sharp Blade (powers up slashing moves by 30%. These are Psycho Cut, Night Slash, Leaf Blade and the new Accel Slash, seen below)
New Moves: Accel Slash. Fighting, physical, 90 BP, 15 PP. The user slashes the target at a rapid pace in many different directions at once. It has a high critical rate.
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Galladite (found at the other side of Petalburg City's east pond)
Description: Upon Mega Evolution, Gallade gains red blades on the outside of its forearms. Its head crest splits into two spikes. Gallade's feet transform to resemble armored boots, while the circular bulge in its midsection transforms to resemble the "skirt" worn by Roman gladiators; this extends up to its knees.

    Pokemon: Wailord
    Type: Ground/Water
Stat Changes*: +50 in Att and +50 in Sp. Def.
Ability: Utopian Intimidation ( Lowers all stats of opponents Pokémon by 2 stages)
New Moves: Final Devastation Defense Torrent Mach 5 (Normal, %60 Accuracy, --- Att, 3PP. Description of move: User fires a large blast of torrent beams. If the user is larger than the targeted Pokémon, this attack always causes a OHKO. Otherwise, this attack does 200 base damage. Must recharge). Roar of Time, Spatial Rend.
Name & Location of Mega Stone: Walordite, located at the seafloor of the Hoenn region. Must require a large ship to pull out of the ocean.
Description: Mega Wailord has become a mammoth. You might never see a Mega Wailord, because you might actually be living on top of it. That's right. This thing has a massive city on it's back big enough to make Gran Pulse cry and fall before it (Final Fantasy 13 ref.). The utopian city typically established on the back of Mega Wailord is full of residents who don't really know how they got there to begin with. Some may question if the mega stone it holds as a Wailord stores the souls of every individual ever lost at sea. These souls are said to be reanimated when the mega stone reacts to the player's mega Bangle and dispersed throughout the massive city. Mega Wailord is blue, excluding the grayness of the skyline on it's shoulders. The city on it's back is composed of several large skyscrapers, each with massive defense turrets built atop of them. This is how it uses its powerful move, Final Devastation Defense Torrent Mach 5.
