For me it was either Silver or Yellow, I don't really remember when exactly I got into pokemon. What I do remember though is losing my silver on a plane flight and throwing away my Yellow because "I was to old for it" I regret it now. I stopped liking pokemon at age 9, went back to liking it at age 12 when diamond came out. Stopped liking it for two years, and now I'm 14 and loving pokemon buying Platinum and Soul silver, thank god i didn't throw away my firered. I did lose my emerald and ruby though :'(

On my Eighth birthday, when I got my Gameboy Color with both Gold and Silver. Put Silver into the game slot, and viola, I started playing Pokemon. I watched some of the anime before that, though.

Well I got into the anime series when it premired when I was younger back in 1999 so I guess you could say Gen. 1, but I didn't get my first game until Gen.2 and that was Silver...after that I got Yellow when I found out about Gen.1 games xD so I guess I'm an in betweener

Pokemon Silver was my first experience with pokemon games. I continued playing on my Game Boy Color ever since.

I believe I watched the anime from the beginning though. I remember commercials promoting new episodes for the first season.

I got into Pokémon at around 1999-2000ish, so around Generation II.
My first game was Sapphire in 2003.

I played the **** out of my Yellow game on my Yellow GBoy to match :D

First Gen is definitely the one that made me fall in love with Pokemon!

I got my first pokemon game back in 2000, when I was five, It was pokemon Yellow
I didn't find out there was a TV show about it until I was 6.
So You could say I'm a 1st Gen player.

Generation I, baby! It all began when the WB 11 played this commercial for a new show... it excited me to no end. I watched this show, despite being 3 1/2 or 4, and my sister got a Pokemon Blue. I walike "There's a game?" and took the reins (yes, I could read the in-game texts at that age) when my sister grew bored, until she upgraded to Yellow, and so on. I can remember seeing Mewtwo Strikes Back nearly every week it was in theatres, at any excuse; Your cousin hasn't seen it? Sure.
Do something with Grandpa? Let's roll.
Your buddy wants to come over? I've got a better idea.
You get the point.

My cousin bought Yellow version and I played it. I started getting addicted right there but when I got my Gold version was when I entered a whole new level of addiction

Im sort of weird. I started liking pokemon BEFORE Blue came out in the US. They had pokemon cards... and My sister got exactly 2 cards. They were japanese, i dont know how she got them. They were Staryu and Starmie. My sister, being older, of course she got the Starmie. So yes my first pokemon ever was technically Staryu. And then came Pokemon Blue FINALLY. I played the game until I got Staryu and i was so happy. so yes, 1st gen/ pre 1st gen.

I started playing pokemon after I watched the very first episode of pokemon when I was 7... so i started in gen 1

I had Yellow first, then red, then silver :)

I didnt really care that i didnt understand what was going on, and that i couldnt get past brock with pikachu xD

I ended up training pidgey to level 18, evolving it and then using quick attack O_O

I expected to feel much older when I saw the poll results but, luckily, most of the votes are for first gen. XD; Thus I don't feel so old for having been introduced to it when it first came out.

Since it's beginning. Actually the anime attracted me the most. :3
