Of Sculptures and Flying Monkeys

Joint post by Rune Alchemist and Cayo
Featuring Velvette the Froslass Gijinka and Flame the Trained Chimchar

Flame checked his surroundings once again. He looked a little bit closer and noticed something about the volcano. Its peak was taller than the island he was standing on, but only slightly. He then realized that miles and miles down, there was an island. A big island. Flame thought for a while over what he should do. If he could reach the big island, it shouldn't be too hard to find food, water, and shelter. The small nearby forest wasn't looking as great as before. It now seemed small, and less impressive.

After several hours of thought, Flame went over near the small forest. There a couple of small Berries, but nothing that could last for more than a few days. Flame still ate though.

When he finished with a full stomach, Flame found it much easier to think. He saw a small fern plant that had very large leaves. He then remembered the few Emolga he had seen. How they were able to glide through the air without actually flying. The shape of their wings. They were shaped very similarly to the ferns.

Flame went to work right away. He went and mowed down several trees with flame wheel. He carefully tore off several fern leaves, making sure they were all roughly the same shape. He took the biggest sticks he could find and cut them with fury swipes to make them almost congruent. Then, with some leaves and a bit of mud, tied the sticks together to first make a V-shaped frame. He then inserted two more sticks. One going across the middle, the other going straight back from the point of the v. It became a cross between a t and a V.

After creating the base, Flame took his leaves. He used some mud to stick them to the sides of the sticks. He tried to make them look just like the Emolga wings. After hours of rotating, cutting, and sticking, Flames Emolgabile was done. Flame went on to add a little space to rest his feet and a handlebar in front. He was ready to become a flying monkey.

Flame brought his new creation back to the edge of his current island. There was a considerable amount of space between the two islands. But still, Flame knew it was all or nothing. He jumped off.

Flame was soaring across the sky. He was gliding smoothly. He couldn't hear anything over the whistling of the wind. Except when he heard a "crack" come from the Emolgabile. He was already over the destination, he had no reason to worry.

"Crack". Now Flame was worrying. The same sound kept coming. Over and over again. Faster and faster. Then the contraption broke, and Flame fell helplessly through the air.

Velvette levitated another rock into place on her sculpture, admiring the way the half-light created shadows over the tiny little details of the art piece she was making.

Hey, she may be lost in the wilderness of who-knows-where, but after becoming something less-than-human, she has learned to take the things that life gives her with more appreciation than when she was a human.

At the moment, she was cutting away at the rock with an improvised ice chisel. The sculpture she was shaping is actually her own, and she worked on it with as much attention as a jeweler would give a zultanite.

The sculpture is about twenty feet high, about half the height of the frozen waterfall. If you were to ask her, she would think that her 'domain' looks quite lovely, with the ice waterfall acting as a mirror on the half-light and reflecting a rainbow over the sculpture's head. She's not vain, but there are times when she indulges for herself. And besides, nobody is around to make fun of her anyway.

The Half-Girl, Half-Froslass floated back from her work, admiring the sculpture for all its worth. It took her an hour or so to get it done, but she didn't have anything better to do anyway. She even paid extra attention to the finishing touches of each individual strands of hair on her statue. It was then that she noticed something falling from above.

She squinted her eyes. It looked like a Pokemon, attached to… something. Hang on, it looked like a Chimchar. But what was it doing in the sky? Directly below her statue.

Wait, what was the last part?

The little red chimp Pokemon landed on her statue's outstretched arm. Light as the Pokemon may be, Velvette hadn't actually placed sticking components on the statue. She was going to do that later by freezing water inside the cracks, but she was going to do it later when she finished with the cutting.

And so, it was with a heavy, sad (and angry) heart did Velvette watch her statue crumble, taking the tiny chimp with it.

She floated there in bemusement, disbelief clear on her face at the improbability of it all. Who would suspect that a tiny flying chimp would crash into her 20-foot statue and bring it down? But it did happen, and the result was right in front of her.

The Chimchar (pest) popped his tiny (squeezable) head out of what was left of her (magnificent) statue, causing a tiny spark of irritation and annoyance flare up inside Velvette's chest. A whole afternoon's worth of work, gone in an instant. A monkey destroyed her work, and he wasn't going to get away with it easy if she has anything to say about it.

Velvette, her eyes glowing with spectral energy, pried the Chimchar out of the rubble. The Chimchar, looking at Velvette with undisguised fear, floated helplessly in the air. Velvette levitated the monkey down to herself, only to be surprised when the Chimchar thanked her with a face-full of Ember.

Flame knew she wouldn't expect an attack, and he needed to get out of there fast, so he reacted with the first thing he knew, an Ember. While Flame wasn't sure what kind of pokemon she was, he could tell that she was an ice type, which are weak to fire.

He successfully startled his captor, forcing her to lose her grip on him, and while she was distracted, Flame took off through the nearby forest. He was a monkey, how hard could it be to get through a forest? Harder than Flame thought. He forgot that he had never actually been in a forest before, and that is a rather important detail.

Flame flew through the forest, swinging through the brush. He could have easily just burnt down the whole forest, but there could be other pokemon and people here. Flame couldn't take the risk of doing that. Instead, he decided to outrun the lady chasing him, who he can hear chasing him from behind. He didn't dare risk turning around as that would only slow him down, giving her a chance to catch up.

Flame continued on his path, going over routes, swatting leaves out of the way, it was a very overgrown forest. There didn't appear to be much life, much less other pokemon. Flame only heard the rustling leaves, but he couldn't tell whether that was him or other life. Still, he kept running, hoping to shake the ice-pokemon off of his tail, listening for her movements. She was coming, and that was all Flame was thinking about. He forgot to pay attention to where he was going, and tripped over a well over-grown root. Flame rolled through the fall on the ground, but he slowed down too much. The young girl was only about thirty yards away and Flame knew that he couldn't outrun her anymore.
