  • I'm about to start my Pearl game over from scratch, even though I have already completed the Pokedex. I have lost interest in playing the current game I'm on now. Since I am starting my game over, it would make since if I made a whole new team as well. So, without further ado, here is my new team that I like to call "New Beginnings"

    Weavile @ Focus Sash
    Jolly Nature
    252 Atk / 216 Spd / 40 HP
    - Swords Dance
    - Ice Shard
    - Night Slash
    - Brick Break

    Gengar @ Life Orb
    Timid Nature
    252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
    - Hypnosis
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
    - Focus Blast

    Starmie @ Leftovers
    Timid Nature
    160 HP / 132 Sp.Atk / 216 Spd
    - Thunderbolt
    - Rapid Spin
    - Recover
    - Surf

    Hariyama@Leftovers
    76 HP / 252 Def / 180 Atk
    Impish Nature
    - Knock Off
    - Whirlwind
    - Force Palm
    - Stone Edge

    Gliscor @ Leftovers
    Impish Nature
    252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Atk
    - Earthquake
    - Aerial Ace
    - Stealth Rock
    - Roost

    Blissey @ Leftovers

EDIT1: Exchanged Forretress and Swampert for Starmie and Rhyperior
    EDIT2: Exchanged Rhyperior for Gliscor

EDIT4: Exchanged Heracross for Hariyama; decided on Thunderbolt for Starmie
EDIT5: Exchanged Weavile's Ice Punch for Ice Shard

    - Night Slash
    - Brick Break
k, standard SD set. =D Like mine. heh, although CB sets are successful these days.

    Gengar @ Life Orb
    Timid Nature
    252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
    - Hypnosis
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt
    - Focus Blast
    fine

    Starmie @ Leftovers
    Timid Nature
    160 HP / 132 Sp.Atk / 216 Spd
    - Thunderbolt / Ice Beam (can't decide)
    - Rapid Spin
    - Recover
    - Surf
    Yep, looks good.

    Electivire @ Expert Belt
    Adamant Nature
    252 Atk / 176 Spd / 80 Sp.Atk
    - Thunderpunch
    - Ice Punch
    - Cross Chop
    - Earthquake
Mmm, I'm not too sure if this fits in your team perfectly. Looks okay

    Rhyperior @ Leftovers
    Impish Nature
    252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Atk
    - Earthquake
    - Avalanche
    - Megahorn
    - Stealth Rock
This is your way of countering physcial sweepers....I suggest use gliscor instead, it sets up stealth rock, able to take hits better and able to heal itself.
    Blissey @ Leftovers
    Calm Nature
    252 Def / 216 Sp.Def / 40 Sp.Atk
    - Aromatherapy
    - Ice Beam
    - Toxic
    - Softboiled
    yezzir awesome
    ----------------------------------------
EDIT1: Exchanged Forretress and Swampert for Starmie and Rhyperior

Changes are in bold... Seriously Vire and rhyperior are doing nothing for you. Vire isn't that threatening, can be walled easily by cress . Gliscor is able to last longer than rhyperior.
Gah... If I mentioned gliscor and you decided take in bulkymence, you're now weavile weak!!!!!! Okay Forretress is a much better option for you!

    Forretress >>> Rhyperior

Replace vire for Bulkymence, that somewhat balances your team out. You can consider it, I'll list out Bulkymence's specs below...

    Salamence@life orb / Leftovers
    224 HP / 12 ATT / 196 DEF / 76 SPEED
    Jolly Nature
    - Roost
    - Dragon Claw
    - Earthquake
    - Dragon Dance

  • I didn't to much care for the Salamence. I exchanged Rhyperior for Gliscor. I like Forretress but I have Starmie already as a Rapid Spinner. Thanks for the Help

Now you are really weavile weak... >> Consider forretress over gliscor, coz it could be a GG 0-6 sweep from weavile. =P

Ok, how about this. Since I can't find a good moveset for Forretress except the Rapid Spinner set and I already have a Rapid Spinner (Starmie). How about I switch Electivire for Heracross.

    • Seen yesterday
Blissey wants Seismic toss or everything goes OLOL, put it >> Ice Beam.

Actually, to beat up weavile, YOU could use this >> Hera.

    Hariyama@Leftovers
    76 HP / 252 DEF / 180 Att
    Impish nature
    Trait : Thick Fat
    - Knock off
    - Whirlwind
    - Force Palm
    - Ice Punch / Thunderpunch / Stone Edge

    Makes a nice tank.

EDIT, You WANT TBolt on Starmie, so you actually dont get owned by Gyarados

  • Ok good, you finally know that vire wasn't doing much for your team.

Go with D_A for Hariyama. ^ That's a good set and takes care of your weavile weakness. =]
And no, heracross doesn't counter your weavile weakness so replace Hariyama over heracross.

  • Anytime... Although garchomp could be a bit of a problem, it is a pain for any team really. =/

You could either have Ice Shard on weavile to revenge kill those scarf outrage's ones or have Ice Fang over Aerial Ace on gliscor to somewhat handle SD sets.

I rather have both just to back up incase.

SD LO outrage hurts alot to gliscor... =/ , IMO SD sets are gonna be a pain to you, you just have to predict right, like ... send your gengar on the fear of a SD coming up, then put it to asleep or attack it if it's already damage. :)

The exact same Weavile I used to have never had a problem with Garchomp, and could usually OHKO it. Weavile isn't going to be my opener, I'm thinking Gliscor will open for me to set up SR. I'm going to download Shoddy when I get home (at cousin's right now) and test it out before I make it on my game.

yeah, weavile never has problem with garchomp 1v1. But the question is how can you switch in safely to deal with garchomp. Weavile can't, gliscor yes. So give gliscor icefang to do some damage to chomp and other dragons. While weavile with ice shard could be a excellent revenge counter for a any type of dragons and especially chomp stuck in outrage.

I'm confused. Ice Shard has 40 Base Power, but it can strike first. However, Ice Punch has 70 Base power, and since Weavile is the 2nd fastest in the game, I dont see why Weavile needs Ice Shard. I don't even think Garchomp can learn any strike first moves.

Garchomp suffers the same dreaded Ice Curse as Salamence, Dragonite, Flygon, I would consider using something else.

Because Weavile isn't the fastest pokemon in the game when Salamence has three Dragon Dances or against Choice Scarf Garchomp Outraging through your team.

And vanguard, how is Garchomp's Ice weakness a reason not to use it? I believe it's the most commonly used standard pokemon (ahead of Blissey) and is currently being considered for the uber tier because it's so powerful.

ok, I see what you mean. I'll go with Ice Shard then.

I just tested this team on Shoddy and it gets destroyed everytime, I haven't won a battle yet.... :/ any pointers?

  • Honestly I think Swords Dance Weavile is total fail. Even after a Swords Dance it can't really hurt anything. It's kind of like Electivire, only it can revenge kill stuff with Ice Shard and Pursuit. Low blow, I know. Point is, Focus Sash will be wasted. You can Swords Dance while they activate your sash, and then Forretress or Bronzong can just waltz their way in and laugh at you, and now Weavile is pretty much useless. That, and weather ruins Focus Sash. If you're going to use Weavile, I'd slap on a Choice Band and put Pursuit >>> Swords Dance to make it more useful.

For Gengar, I've never been fond of it either. It is easily killed by its Life Orb if you can predict (easy...Gengar is quite predictable) and it just has a bit of trouble pulling off a sweep. It has good coverage and stats though, so if you want to keep it, go ahead. Honestly, I think the Specs set is more useful as it does hurt things a lot more and is in my opinion Gengar's best pure special sweeping set. Still, two choice users already could be a little restricting, so feel free to just keep it the way it is. Just don't expect to sweep teams or anything.

Starmie is also fine. But just from seeing that Starmie and Gengar are your only ways of dented Skarmory and other physical walls, you seem to have a Pursuit problem, especially with Weavile. If Weavile is on the opposing team, it can easily waste Gengar and Starmie, which will make it hard to beat out sturdy walls like Hippowdon and Skarmory. Just beware of that. You do have Hariyama, who is decent against MixApe and Gyarados if Starmie goes dowm though, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Hariyama is a cool pokemon. That slot looks good with the TTar coverage and whatnot.

Gliscor looks fine, but Blissey needs Seismic Toss. Like, REALLY badly. Use it >>> Aromatherapy so you can actually hurt stuff. I'd keep Ice Beam since your team is REALLY Gengar weak without it.

If I were offering improvements, one thing I'd do is take out Gengar for a special sweeper that does well against physical walls not Pursuit weak. This means stuff like Raikou is out, as it fears Earthquake from bulky grounds and the likes. Better yet, a bulky water would help. They do well against physical walls with STAB Surfs flying everywhere. Something like Crocune or the standard CalmCune could work here to better wall attacks and also provide a sweeping threat.

It would also make the loss of Starmie easier to take if you lost it to Weavile or something. Suicune would also boost your defenses considerably.

I don't really want to mess with this too much since I don't really know your playing style a whole lot and I don't want to toy around with things too much. I'm just trying to point out potential problems here ^_^

Starmie adds a lot to your Pursuit weakness, even though most team have that weakness.

If you want water coverage, I'd probably add Vaporeon. It counters Mixape fine, plus it can offer you Wish support, or, if you don't want that, it can be a Subpasser (the former usually more effective) It can also use HP Electric so you can counter Gyarados.

    Vaporeon @ Leftovers
    Bold Nature
    188 HP, 252 Def, 68 SpA
    Wish/Baton Pass
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    HP Electric/Subtitute/Toxic/Yawn

I use Wish/Surf/Ice Beam/HP Electric, but Vaporeon can use Toxic over Ice Beam if you want to deal some status to walls and others trying to set up on you. Wish support would help things low on HP switch into a predicted recovery move (like Starmie using Recover, switch in Gengar and get Wish Support, though Gengar probably won't be switching in much)

Starmie is his rapid spinner, how could he replace that... Starmie handles mixape.

Exokriz, SD Weavile's don't work too good. Use CB and give it pursuit.

You are saying this team isn't doing too well in shoddy. Could you name a few pokemon who are giving you trouble, maybe we're able to fix it up a bit.
