Censure me, but I can't seem to talk about education without involving politics.

A lot of states are starting school earlier and earlier (many of them just a few weeks ago) or pushing the end of year later, or requiring year-round calender. They claim it's because it'll improve scores on those standardised tests.
On the other hand, the Michigan Leigslature proposed a bill to not start the school year until after Labor Day.
My home district starts the 24th.
