  • Technically, Science is one thing I actually understand in class. Considering I took two science courses last year, I would have to say it is one subject I don't hate upon. It isn't a personal favorite either, but I don't have any problems with science so to speak. Now, if you mention liking or disliking science as a key to preventing me of doing things I wish I could, then yes, I would hate science. However, that isn't the case.

Actually, it is seeing as with gravity I can't fly, but regardless I like it nevertheless.

  • Intrestingly, in America how much choice do you have over the schools subjects you do? Perhaps someone could fill me in?

It really does vary from school to school, of course, but here in California public schools each student is required to get a certain amount of credits in each subject, necessitating a certain amount of semesters/years for each type of course. Generally, the result of this system is that early on in one's high school career (and when one enters middle school) most of your classes are already laid out for you, except that you occasionally may test into or choose a more advanced course for the required subject. For example, freshman year you will automatically be placed in Freshman English, and you have to take biology for your science course, but you are permitted to choose between Honors Biology and the regular biology class. Later on as you become an upperclassman you have more freedom to organize your class choices provided you still gain the amount of credits in each subject required to graduate. Some people choose to complete the minimum number of required subjects (English, languages, visual arts, etc.) as early as possible and then fill their senior year with courses that are considered "easy", such as vocational courses like auto or home ec or shop, though this isn't necessarily advisable if you want to attend a good university. ;P

  • Well, I think the Pokémon world demonstrated that it could be the form of government. There is private property within the Pokémon world so it is not communist. However, the Pokémon world is intrinsically left wing (free health care for Pokémon), while extrinsically right-wing (profit largely from the franchise.)

My biostats instructor was clearly left-wing though with his presentations... he didn't require us to do any projects or ask anything about it on the test.
It wasn't communist, so it didn't really demonstrate anything. Not to mention Pokemon is hardly a political statement; it's clearly a game targeted at children. They use hiragana in the Japanese releases so that children that can't read kanji can still understand what the characters are saying. While I suppose it's possible to embed an ideology in a childrens' game, I don't really think that's what they were going for.

Dude, don't even try arguing with him. He doesn't pay attention to detail and I believe is literally unable to get over his belief that there are secret pinko overtones in the franchise. Don't believe me? https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=201796

    Woah!!! confusing...

In scotland (my place of origin) you do two years of high school doing general subjects (eg. maths, english science) then in third year and fourth year you pick 8 subjects to study for a qualification known as a standard grade culminating in an exam. These are slightly more specialised (eg. physics, chemistry, ict). Then in fith year and sixth year you can take up to five subjects at difficulty levels of your choice. Starting with easiest, Intemediate 1, intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher (note: what you can take depends on what you attained from standard grade and also only sixth years can take advanced highers as these are basically 1st/2nd year university level work. The subjects you can choose are more specialised here (eg. fashion and textiles, anatomy, psycology, mechatronics). Then you go will your qualifications to work, college university or whatever.

All grades are produced externally and so your teachers can appeal a fail grade but have no actual say in your final grade. In America, do you have a lot of exams or does your teachers decide pass or fail?

  • Hey everyone, I really hate Science because it is super boring. I'm always getting sleepy at Science time. Because everything science is boring. In Science test, my good, I don't know to do. Let us boycott Science. Science is boring. If you are with me put "WOPPA DUCA" in the end of your reply.
It's fine if you don't like science but I think it's silly to boycott it. Yeah, depends which science you're talking about. If talking about the core sciences like Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, I'm not too good at those but I don't hate them. I actually like Physics when I took it in high school. As for the social sciences, I'm all for history and economics. Heck, my concentration is financial economics. :P Pretty much liked everyone said, science is one subject that gives us knowledge and all that jazz, doesn't matter if core or social science.

Sex involves biology, which is a science. Is sex boring?

I just proved a point. :3 All of science is not boring.
LOL. You just won this thread. XD

It's the only subject that I can excel without putting of much effort.Though, unlike Math, you can actually use it in the real life.
Um, there are ways you can use math in real life. Math teacher, cashier, engineer, accountant, etc. Also there are some instances in Chemistry and Physics where you have to use math.

All grades are produced externally and so your teachers can appeal a fail grade but have no actual say in your final grade. In America, do you have a lot of exams or does your teachers decide pass or fail?
Assuming Spearow lives the same country I'm in (America), the teachers decide if you pass or fail. Interesting on how the education system works in your area though, Cynic. I'm always interested on how the school system works in different countries. :3

Ho there - math is real life. I don't mean just that you can apply it in various careers to make money. I mean it seriously makes up the fabric of reality, or at the very least is one of the fundamental (if not the only) ways of perceiving and analyzing the information we receive from our environment/universe at large. Also, science is technically just applied mathematics.

the teachers decide if you pass or fail

Uhhh. Not in the educational district I am located in, which is the California public school system. I guess classes can technically vary from pass-fail courses to letter-grade ones, but generally it's your cumulative grade-point-average from assignments and exams in that class that determine whether you get pass or not, not the teacher's decision. I mean, technically the teacher could manipulate or weight their grading system so that certain students will fail, but I'm not certain that it's legal for them to just decide to flunk a student if they got a C or better. Maybe it varies from school to school.

You should drink H2SO4! But really, lern2science

My favorite subjects are Chemistry, Astronomy, and Physics.

Fun stuff, i'll bet your teacher just can't explain things in an interesting way.

  • I don't think there's an explanation for everything that occurs in our world/universe, and at some point I think it's best to leave it that way. I can appreciate science and people who dedicate their lives studying it, but it's just not for me.

(On the subject of classes, my science class is horrible. The people there are very immature, and the teacher doesn't even have time to teach anything because they're always acting up. I also don't think that taking notes for the entire class period is a good way to learn. So it all comes down to how you teach the class.)

  • It's really difficult, and some subjects can be boring as crap, but that's no reason to not love science. I love astronomy, and that's a branch of science, right? ... right?

Science also helps explain and solve most of everyday questions and problems.

  • Science is possibly the funnest lesson I take besides Physical Education! At least it's (more often than not) hands on work. I'm sick of taking notes and doing sums in other lessons.

*smacks* Mathematics is in nearly everything, from the economy to stuff like the patterns on the head of a sunflower. A Mathematics degree can lead to a number of careers - finance, engineering, IT, medicine, science, business... And as Spearow said, all of science derives from Mathematics on a fundamental level.

  • Science is fun if you have a fun teacher. I find that if you have a boring teacher, the lessons seem to drag on and the material itself becomes boring to listen to. And if the material is boring to listen to, you get less out of the class than if you were enjoying it.

The same principles can apply to any core class, but I find it moreso with Science. This year I happen to have a boring teacher, and I'm finding the lessons to be boring and hard to keep up with.

Science is awesome with the right teacher, its almost universally applicable and is more often than not great fun. I'm taking triple science next year and i want to be an endocrinologist because my teachers have tried to make even the most boring things interesting.

Also, you dont have to understand what you are learning or be good at science to enjoy it. While it is possible in all subjects, Science appears to be the easiest to make interesting and fun no matter what skill level. One subject that comes to mind is PE, which isn't really interesting unless you are somewhat good at it.

  • I always liked science. It was one of the few academic subjects i was actually good at. I had a teacher who was good at engaging the class too, generally you will find the subject is only as boring as the teacher.
