i don't think i can re-battle him- and, i would keep trying to do it, but i'm going on vacation- you should probs get someone more reliable :(
EDIT- i'm gonna try to do it before 10:00 tomorrow (already beat the Elite four, just need to go to mount silver- but it's midnight in NJ, and i need sleep before Vacation)

dont know about magikarp though my shiny gyrados looks shiny when its behind me. alucus of borg says it is shiny so i ges, yes.

I love this Gym at dusk! When I was playing it I sat there for 10 minutes just watching the clouds go past.
Morty's gym freaked me out though. ;)
