I'm glad to see Reina's not just a super serious hard working student. She's a little crazy, I like it. Kumiko's still my favourite though.

Waaah this episode was so perfect! It subverted my expectations about how I thought this "love triangle sub-plot" would play out. It was interesting to learn more about Kou-, erm.. "Reina's" motivations and what she's all about. Kumiko and Reina's heart-to-heart conversation on the trek up that mountain was fascinating, and their duet during the end credits was lovely. Fun Fact: The song they played was called "The Place We Found Love," a vocal song seen in a previous KyoAni show. And this scene, too... Goodness, I almost expected something else to happen... My heart was all aflutter~

However, I have a grim feeling... and I hope I'm wrong, but...

From what I've heard, KyoAni is somewhat infamous for "baiting" people with yuri/yaoi ships and never really doing anything with it. This week's episode went so well, but I can't help but feel I should be wary of a possible "bait-and switch" a la Tamako Market where this sub-plot with yuri vibes is abandoned entirely in favor of developing a romance with the childhood friend. I'm hoping that my expectations will be subverted again, as with what I was initially anticipating from episode 8... but I'm still on guard. I guess we just have to wait for the next piece.

...No matter what happens in the end, after episode 8 I can practically hear all the doujin, fanfics, and fanart being made of Kumiko x Reina around the world. So at the very least, we'll have that in addition to these in-show scenes. xD

I so needed this. So beautiful. At this point I wish they dropped the whole musical thing and started being a shoujo-ai romance story *O*

...not really.

In appearance sure, otherwise I don't see the similarities at all. I think people are too quick to compare it to K-On, but I guess it can't be helped considering the initial setting is very much the same.

Reina reminds me somehow of Mio, but that's it, I don't think this is similar to K-ON apart from the initial setting.

I saw it highly upvoted on reddit and thought that something serious was gonna go down in this episode. Yet I wasn't prepared for the immense feelings of happiness whilst watching Reina confess to Oumae and watching the relationship unfold under the mountain top. Specifically seeing this sensual moment happen makes this relationship a genuine one.

After Hazuki got rejected, seeing her break down hugging Midori in the ED scene was quite sad to see and then her little sister comming in to hug her did it for me.

Realistically though I don't think it's such a big deal with her attitude leaning on wanting it to be over and done with. I'm actually more surprised that Natsuki didn't make it though ;( it was very intense watching them get through the audition at least Kumiko and Reina got though. (btw KyoAni baiting yuri shippers hard with that scene before the audition.

Gottdang that pic... Do not toy with my heart, KyoAni...
...I don't trust them at all, tbh. I feel there's still some unresolved baggage between Kumiko and Shuichi. Hazuki wants to help them out, too, so... You know what to expect...

If they're gonna go that route, then they should at least work on making Shuichi a more interesting character and frame his and Kumiko's interactions in a manner where they actually look like they give a damn about one another.

I don't know anymore, man. My heart is already wavering... If my heart isn't completely on board, then it's not music anymore. Forgive me for I am weak. ;w; Maybe someday I'll meet someone who wants to trek up a mountain with their instrument to play the song at the top on an evening date. I'd pick up violin again for that. *insert crappy "tfw no gf" reaction image* {XD}

Regarding Episode 9:

My heart wanted Hazuki to make the audition, but realistically it makes sense that she didn't since she's still a beginner. It's still gotta sting, though. Hazuki has been so strong through her recent trials.. However, like many others, I was surprised Natsuki didn't make the audition. I wonder how interactions will be between the people who made and and those who didn't in the future...
I love how Reina inspires Kumiko to do her very best! Kumiko's changed a lot since the first episode where she wasn't sure she even wanted to be in band. Well, the entire band has changed as well since the beginning, like she said.

Whatever... Moving on...

Natsuki-senpai is such a good person. If went to this fictional school, I would totally want to be her friend. She took her loss like a champ, taking the way the positives from the challenge.... and she wasn't affected by the salt the much of the band seems to be feeling post-auditions. Ribbon girl irritated me... She reminds me of this dude back in my old high school orchestra who was always jealous I would earn first chair in our section. Except ribbon girl is getting too mad on someone else's behalf. Since there are going to be another round of auditions... I hope that it's going to be a blind vote, because I can totally see the band being biased toward Kaori's performance unless they are judging only with their ears. You know Reina's gonna win though cuz she's a major character going "to be someone special."

Episode 12

The scene when Kumiko was running shouting that she wanting to improve was a visual feast. the cinematography was great - the different angles used and her facial expressions were on point, Then the part how she realised how Reina felt back at the first episode in the flashback also impacted me as well when I noticed the same thing at the same time. Just want to say the monologues throughout the show are well done in showing us her thoughts and understanding of what's going on.
