  • Ever wonderd how to catch every legendary pokemon will this guide will tell u

    Tips for catching legendarys:

-Always save before an encounter with a legendary in case you accidentally KO it.

-Never save after you've accidentally KOed a legendary. Once you KO a legendary, unless you reset without saving, it will not be available again without starting a new game from scratch.

-Status effects are generally good for making Pokemon easier to catch, but never use Poison or Burn on a legendary, because you'll end up KOing it before you're able to catch it.

-Having a Pokemon that knows the False Swipe move is always a good idea to avoid accidentally KOing the legendary (False Swipe guarantees your opponent will always have at least 1 HP remaining when you use it).

-Any Pokemon obtained in any GBA version can be transferred to Diamond, Pearl or Platinum via PalPark after beating the Elite 4 and obtaining the National Dex.
Also, keep in mind that all of these Pokemon are also obtainable via the GTS (Global Trade Station) in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, as well as through trading with your friends. The information in this guide should help you make informed trades, so you don't get scammed by some jerkhole trying to trade hacked mutant level 1 Mews. Be careful out there, trainers!

now to acualy get to the legendarys

    Arceus
At the time of writing, Arceus isn't available outside of hacking, and there's no room in our PCs for hacked Pokemon. Expect an update when Arceus's event is announced.

    Articuno Moltres and Zapdos
Pokemon Platinum - Once you get the National Dex, the three Legendary Birds (Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos) will be roaming Sinnoh in the same way that Cresselia and Mesprit jumped around from place to place. Use your Marking Map Poketch app to see their current locations and track them down. Once the encounter begins, use a Pokemon with the Mean Look move to prevent each bird from fleeing (or better yet, use a Wobbuffet – its Shadow Tag ability will automatically prevent the bird from fleeing, even if you switch it out) and you should have all three in no time.

    Azelf
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum – Once you've beaten Team Galactic at Mt. Coronet, the lake trio of legendaries (Azelf, Mesprit and Uxie) will become available. You'll find Azelf at Lake Valor.

    Celebi
Celebi is an event-only Pokemon, so there's no way to obtain one via normal gameplay. Most of Celebi's giveaway events were Japan-only, so look for a Japanese OT when trading. Celebi was also given away during the Pokemon Journey Across America Tour with an OT of 10 ANIV. If you're looking for a legit Celebi, your best bet is to seek out a reputable source for trading, like someone you know.

    Cresselia
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum – After beating the Elite 4 and obtaining the National Dex, head to Canalave City. On the west side of the city by the boat dock is a house with a sleeping boy in it. Talk to the boy, then take the boat across to Fullmoon. Follow the path (there's only one way you can go) until you reach Cresselia, who will immediately flee when you approach. Make sure to grab the Lunar Wing she leaves behind, and bring it back to the sleeping boy to cure him. Now you'll be able to find Cresselia roaming around Sinnoh (use the Marking Map Pokeketch app to view her current location).
Cresselia is probably the most difficult Pokemon to catch in Diamond / Pearl / Platinum, so you'll have to employ some special techniques if you want to snag her without a major headache. You can take as much time as you'd like before you actually go after her (she'll keep roaming around Sinnoh indefinitely until then), so take your time and make sure you're well prepared.

-Using Fly to get closer to Cresselia usually doesn't work. You'll have to walk/bike there and hope he doesn't move again while you're en route.

-If that's not working for you, find a boundary between two areas and move back and forth between them until Cresselia shows up in the area you're in.

-If your lead Pokemon is lower than level 50, use a repel before entering the grass to ensure that you encounter Cresselia instead of a random wild Pokemon.

-Have a Pokemon with the Mean Look move at the head of your party (Crobat is a good candidate because of his high speed stat) and use it right away to prevent Cresselia from fleeing.

-Better yet, have a Wobbuffet at the head of your party. Its Shadow Tag ability will prevent Cresselia from fleeing even if Wobbuffet switches out.

-Cresselia's HP doesn't regenerate between encounters, so if you've gotten her health down and she flees, her health will still be down next time you encounter her. Be careful not to inflict poison because you don't want to accidentally KO her.
If all else fails, Cresselia is an excellent candidate for using your Master Ball.

    Darkrai
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum – By event only. When trading, look for a Darkrai in a Cherish ball, with OTs like ALAMOS

    Deoxys
Deoxys is available by event only. It's been given away quite a bit, so you shouldn't have a problem tracking one down from a reputable source. Look for OTs like 10th, Gamestp (from the most recent North American Deoxys giveaway at Gamestop), OT Caught, DOEL, or SPACE C.

    Dialga
Pokemon Diamond – If you're playing through Diamond, Dialga is a total no-brainer since you must encounter it as part of the plot. When you finally make it through Mt. Coronet, after your big boss battle with Cyrus, Dialga will be waiting for you to battle and capture. After you capture it, make sure you walk past where it was standing and pick up the Adamant Orb, which is an essential hold item to maximize Dialga's power.

Pokemon Platinum – Dialga will be at Spear Pillar, but you won't be able to battle it until you've obtained the National Dex and returned to Spear Pillar after your initial encounter there with Cyrus and Giratina.
Note that you'll encounter Dialga at level 47 in Diamond, and an impressive level 70 in Platinum.

    Entei/Suicune/Raikou
Only obtainable by trade ir transfer from fire red leaf green

    Giratina
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl – After obtaining the National Dex, head to Route 214 (Fly to Veilstone City and go south). You'll need Surf, Rock Smash and Rock Climb. Head south down the path, and looking along the eastern side (to the right) you'll see an opening that wasn't there before. Head inside and you'll be in Sendoff Spring. Go down the path, up the hill using Rock Climb, and across the spring using Surf to enter Turnback Cave. Turnback Cave is kind of a huge foggy maze. There's a riddle on the pillar when you enter that says you must find 3 other pillars within 30 rooms, and Giratina will appear. It's not too difficult to find through trial and error, but the quickest way to get there is:
From the entrance, go NORTH, NORTH, EAST, EAST, EAST, EAST, EAST, EAST.
So, just go north twice and then east until you get to the room with Giratina in it.

Pokemon Platinum – While Giratina is at level 70 in Diamond and Pearl, the Giratina you'll find in Platinum is a mere level 47. Finding Giratina in Platinum is a no-brainer because you'll have to trigger the encounter at some point if you're playing through the game. Once you get to Spear Pillar at the top of Mt Coronet, after the boss battle, instead of battling either Dialga or Palkia, you'll enter a portal into the Distortion World. It's not that big of a place, so you should be able to navigate your way through until you reach Cyrus. After you defeat him, Giratina will appear and you'll be able to battle it.

    Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza
Trade or transfer from Emerald Ruby and sapphire

    Heatran
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum – Heatran resides in Stark Mountain on the northeastern island area. After beating the Elite 4, Fly to Snowpoint City and talk to the man to the south at the boat dock, who will take you to the Fight Area of the island (or if you've already been to the areas on the island, just Fly directly to the Survival Area). Make sure you have a Pokemon in your party that knows Surf, Rock Climb, Rock Smash and Strength. If you're starting from the Fight Area, head north on Route 225 to the Survival Area. From there, go east along Route 226. Climb up the hill and Surf across the pond, then continue north on Route 227 which leads you to the entrance to Stark Mountain.
If this is your first time visiting Start Mountain, you'll have to go through some story stuff with Rival and Buck first, and navigate through the mountain with Buck tagging along. Once you're done with all the story stuff (which requires going back to the Survival Area to talk to Buck again), head back to Stark Mountain and go back to where you found the Magma Rock, and Heatran will be waiting for you there.

    Ho-Oh/Lugia
Trade or special fire red leaf green event then transfer

    Jirachi
Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disk (North America only) – If you can get your hands on a copy of the Colosseum Bonus Disc, which was given out to those who preordered Colosseum, this is by far the easiest way to obtain Jirachi on your own. With the Bonus Disc, you can actually transfer as many Jirachis as you want to either Ruby or Sapphire, as long as there's not currently a Bonus Disc Jirachi on that cart. So technically, you can download a Jirachi on Ruby, transfer that Jirachi to Sapphire, then repeat the process as many times as you want until your Sapphire cart is filled with Jirachis. The OT for this Jirachi is WISHMKR. then transfer

    Latias/Latios
Trade or transfer from pokemon Emerald sapphire and ruby

    Manaphy/Phione
Pokemon Ranger (Manaphy) – This is the only way to obtain Manaphy on your own through normal gameplay. First, beat the game. Then, from the main menu, select the Ranger Net option and hold down the right shoulder button, the X button, and left on the directional pad to bring up a password option. Enter the code P8M2-9D6F-43H7 for North America and Australia or Mg35-Cpb8-4FW8 for Europe to unlock the Manaphy Egg special mission. Complete the mission (it's easy) to receive the Manaphy egg. To transfer it to Diamond or Pearl, you'll need two DS systems. Turn on both DS systems, one with Ranger and one with Diamond / Pearl, start the games and follow the prompts to transfer the egg.

Phione:breed dito and Manaphy to get a egg that has phione

    Azelf, Mesprit and Uxie
Mesprit and Uxie are both at there respective lakes and all you need to do is talk to them then your in a fight but when you go to Azelf it dissapears and you have to find it with the marking map poke tec

    Mew
    trade transfer and special event

    Mewtwo
trade or transfer from fire red leaf green

    Palkia
Pokemon Pearl – If you're playing through Pearl, Palkia is a total no-brainer since you must encounter it as part of the plot. When you finally make it through Mt. Coronet, after your big boss battle with Cyrus, Palkia will be waiting for you to battle and capture. After you capture it, make sure you walk past where it was standing and pick up the Lustrous Orb, which is an essential hold item to maximize Palkia's power.

Pokemon Platinum – Palkia will be at Spear Pillar, but you won't be able to battle it until you've obtained the National Dex and returned to Spear Pillar after your initial encounter there with Cyrus and Giratina.
Note that you'll encounter Palkia at level 47 in Pearl, and an impressive level 70 in Platinum.

    Regirock/Regice/Registeel/Regigigas
Pokemon Platinum (North America and Japan only) – Event only! To unlock the golem trio (Regice, Regirock and Registeel) in Platinum, you'll need to have obtained the special North American event Toys R Us event Regigigas (or if you're playing on a Japanese version, the movie theater event one).
You'll have to transfer Regigigas from your Diamond or Pearl cartridge to your Platinum cartridge. With the special Regigigas in your party, enter Mt. Coronet at the west entrance off Route 211. Go north then west and head down a floor (you'll need Strength to get through). Defog if you wish, and keep heading all the way north and take the last staircase on the right. Head north and you'll immediately see what looks like another cave entrance. Inside, step on all the dots on the floor and the battle with a level 30 Regice will trigger.

    Shaymin
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum – By event only. There's currently no way to obtain Shaymin through normal gameplay. In Pokemon Platinum, Shaymin can morph into its Sky Forme during the day whilst holding a Gracidea, which can be obtained in Floaroma Town from the blonde lady outside if you have an event Shaymin in your party.

    Rotom
Rotom is available in the Old Chateau once you beat the elite four. The Old Chateau is at the west of Eterna City/route 205/near the exit of eterna forest.Return to the chateau and head upstairs.
Rotom comes out at night so do not look for him during the day. There is a tv in one of the rooms up there so press A on the tv. You will be attacked by Rotom.Rotom is an electric ghost
and is at lvl15 so do not bring your legendary capture team.If you do not encounter Rotom on the tv, try again later until you finally do.
    Keep trying, it is there.

  • Okay first heres a tip. Why don't you save the game right in front of the legendary pokemon you have to interact with to battle to them. That makes you able to try over and over again. Second of all Rotom is not a legendary and there is more then only one of him. I once killed him and then the next day he was in the tv again, trying to get out. Oh and Rotom is at lv20. Diagla and Palkia both have a higher catch rate then all the legendaries i think...

  • Ho-oh can be obtained in Colosseum by purifying all 48 Shadow Pokémon, then completing Mt. Battle in Battle Mode, and Lugia is snagged in Pokémon XD from Cipher Boss Greevil on Citadark Isle. These are the only ways to obtain Ho-oh and Lugia without hacking or an event.

Also, Rotom is not considered to be a legendary.

  • Yeah... It's the same rotom, he just keeps coming back.

It certainly is not. Every time you battle Rotom it has a different nature and different IVs. It is by no means the same. In fact, you could say the same about any legendary. Obviously you can only catch one, but each time you SR it is a different pokémon.

Also, it's cool that you copy + pasted the guide and all, but it's laid out much better in its original location here.

  • Nice guide!
One question - can you get the special flower to change Shaymin into sky form if you're not the OT of the Shaymin? I got it from my friend who got it from one of his friends who might have used an action replay to get it. Can I still get the flower in Floaroma town?

  • Useful guide for beginners. Also, you can (or could of, not sure) obtain Darkrai by a Wi-Fi task on Pokemon Rangers: Shadows of Almia. Hope you improve the guide if you are still with the community. :)

  • This is certaintly helpful for new Pokemon fans. I found it to be a little erm..choppy I guess but It'll do heh.
Also, just a thought, maybe you might want to add that after KOing Giratina in Platinum the first time you encounter it, you can still catch it at lv70 at Turnback cave i believe :P

  • Since it talks about all legendary Pokémon, this should belong in General, but I'm going to lock it since you have blatantly copied and pasted the majority of this guide. You should not plagiarise other people's work.
