Alpha
Quiet; Often lost in thought
Gender: N/A
Moveset: Tri Attack, Recover, Signal Beam, Discharge
Personality: It's difficult to gauge the personality of a cybernetic duck, especially one that's as quiet as Alpha. The most reserved Pokémon on Daniel's team, it tends to keep to itself unless prompted by an outside source, usually its trainer. Despite this, it does indeed have emotions, and cares deeply for its teammates – though its capacity for outside expression, limited to beeps and facial expressions, gives it trouble communicating with them.
In fact, due to the relative newness of its emotional faculties (acquired upon the upgrade to Porygon2) it is probably the most sensitive of all the teammates, easy to upset and occasionally prone to sulking. Its more logically-oriented thought processes sometimes results in it stubbornly refusing an order it deems 'illogical', giving it a rebellious streak somewhat in line with its trainer, and it tends to completely ignore orders from anyone else. Additionally, due to its memory architecture, it tends to hold grudges for extended periods of time, until it perceives the perpetrator of whatever crimes were executed against it has repented or otherwise redeemed themselves in its eyes.
History: Alpha was Daniel's first Pokémon, given to him by his parents in a futile attempt to shift his love of technology towards Pokémon battling. Despite the circumstances of the two's meeting, they became fast friends, with Daniel taking it virtually everywhere he went. He found its interactivity with both modern technology such as Pokéballs and actual live Pokémon extremely fascinating, and was constantly subjecting it to 'experiments'. However, as he grew older, Daniel realised that it had no emotions or even true autonomy, simply being programmed to obey any orders received. As a result, it was relegated to the role of a gimmicky toy, and eventually faded from his life in favour of living, breathing Pokémon like his pet Snubbull, Lucy.
However, while making plans for his Pokémon journey, Daniel noticed that one of his employee benefits for working at Silph Co. was a discount on all licenced merchandise, a fact he exploited to cheaply obtain an Upgrade for his first Pokémon. Though he couldn't find anyone to do a trade-back with to apply the Officially Licensed Pokémon Expansion Pack, his interest in his old partner was revitalised, and he began training it for his journey. Eventually, after witnessing a tough Gym Battle against Erika, one of the Gym Trainers offered to assist in evolving Alpha in exchange for a Sun Stone, which he had handily acquired earlier.
The upgrade enhanced many of Alpha's features, giving it artificial intelligence and actual emotions. Finally feeling like he was interacting with an actual, living being, Daniel took to the new version of Alpha like a duck to water, though his other Pokémon were slightly less enthusiastic about the transition.
Lucy
Brave; alert to sounds
Gender: Female
Moveset: Play Rough, Crunch, Wild Charge, Brick Break
Personality: Lucy is possibly the loudest Pokémon Daniel will ever own. Whether barking, growling, panting or whining, she is constantly making some kind of noise, a fact that annoys her owner to no end. She is very affectionate with her trainer, but tends to be a little more wary around those she doesn't know. Though normally very placid, she will bark and growl unendingly at those she perceives as a threat to either herself, her trainer or her fellow Pokémon. Unflinchingly loyal, she will do whatever it takes to protect her partners and obeys orders almost without question.
Notably, since she was raised as a house pet, she dislikes staying inside her Pokéball and will remain outside of it at her master's side most of the time.
She is absolutely befuddled by Alpha and its outward lack of reaction, and will try to provoke it quite often, amused by the results. Despite this, Alpha bears no grudge towards her, and the two cooperate well whenever it is necessary of them. She shares a friendly rivalry with other teammate Aster, competing over both their master's affection and their skill in combat.
History: Lucy was Daniel's first 'real' Pokémon, bought when he realised exactly how quiet it was in his Celadon apartment. Though the two had trouble at first, they got along fairly well once it was established what was 'people food' and what was 'Pokémon food'. For quite some time during his employment at Silph, she was the one major constant in his life, which was a whirlwind of managers, senior techs and misadventures with malfunctioning printers.
When he decided to go on a journey, she was signed up for some basic combat training at the Saffron Fighting Dojo, alongside newcomer Aster. She was quick to get into shape, and until Aster evolved into his final stage she was often the powerhouse of the team. She evolved into Granbull during a hectic battle against Sabrina, Saffron City's Gym Leader.
Aster
Bold; somewhat vain
Gender: Male
Moveset: Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Synthesis, Sleep Powder
Personality: As a born battler, Aster is very proud of his own abilities. Some would say too proud, as he tends to often underestimate his opponents. His pride also gives him a little vanity, as he is constantly admiring his grand flower and probably considers himself quite the looker.
Despite his skill in combat, Aster is probably the laziest Pokémon on Daniel's team, oversleeping frequently and often complaining about trivial things. He has a friendly rivalry with teammate Lucy, whom he has bested in direct combat several times due to type advantages. Despite their differences, the two make a good pair, often providing support for Daniel when he needs it.
He regards Alpha with curiosity, not quite sure how to react to such a strange creature – artificial, but clearly as capable of genuine thought as the rest of them. As such the two generally keep their distance.
History: Aster was purchased from a professional Pokémon breeder prior to Daniel's quitting from Silph Co. and leaving on his journey. The breeder seemed to be a bit of a perfectionist, as he regarded Aster as 'lesser stock' and offered a discounted price. This didn't matter in the least to Daniel, who took in the effectively rejected Bulbasaur as a friend and teammate.
He required a little more training than Lucy, due to being less used to humans and other Pokémon, but his combat prowess proved a tangible reward, getting the team through several rough patches where they otherwise would have ground to a halt. He reached his final stage of evolution during a long, drawn-out battle against the Fuchsia City Gym Leader, Janine.
