I suggest to the mods that this thread be closed, the only thing people are doing is bashing the OS's, and this argument can never be won.

The point being, You can do things on Windows that you can't do on Mac, and you can do things on Mac that you can't do on Windows. Neither one of them is superior in that respect, it just depends on you, and what you do on the computer. That's why this argument cannot be won. Windows will probably always have control over the Corporations and the Gaming, and Mac will always have control over Graphics and the like, so there is no point in bickering over who is dominant. From a Psychological standpoint, this argument can probably be derived from someone's social status, The Geeks and Normal people will usually turn to Windows, and the artists will usually turn to Mac. This whole argument may be a battle of social orders.

People can scream, "I don't like Macs because they suck at gaming" and "I don't like Windows because Microsoft is an evil corporate giant" all they want. The one universal truth that both Windows and Mac users can agree upon is that Linux is terrible, and be glad that we never considered switching to it. :p

You are those people, and you've obviously no experience with linux. Linux is the most common OS for people running servers so think, why DO professional business people use linux? Mac OS X is just Apple's take at a user friendly operating system, geared towards proprietary software. They should stick to smaller things, like the iPod. The ironic thing is Macs DO do gaming, and that Apple is just as bad as Micro$oft when it comes to being an 'evil corporate giant'.

My first computer was a Linux on a hand me down computer and I was on that thing for about 6 years of my life, so don't give me that crap. Macs don't do gaming, since most games are geared towards Microsoft. I really disagree with you when you say that they should stick with the iPod. The OS X does work, if you know what the hell you're doing and it works with what you do on the computer.
Also, most corporations do not use Linux, most still use Windows 2000 Server Edition :S
    Whoever told you that most businesses use Linux for servers is a complete idiot -_-;

Web servers? Linux has moved on a LOT in the past few years so there's no point ruling it out on past experience. Macs DO do gaming, provided you spend the premium on a decent one, which is roughly twice as much as a similar performing non-Apple computer. There are actually a pretty big library of Mac games, just go down to your local Apple store.

Yeah, but you can't deny that Windows has some of the best games. I know that games such as World of Warcraft play on Mac, but the pool isn't that wide.

Bashing? No, everyone is making valid and reasonable arguments.

I resent the "Windows does this, Mac does that" argument, since they both can do what the other does just fine. I'd just rather do it on an OS that works for me without having to spend all that extra money. Plus, just like there are graphics programs that run better on a Mac, there are those that run better on Windows (names escape me though, I do not often dabble in CG and animation programs).

Wow, geeks use Windows aye, and the artists use a Mac? What has that got to do with which OS is better? (btw are you a psychologist?)

  • Oh yeah, well try getting a virus on a mac. oh wait, YOU CAN'T. So that;s one less thing you need to pay for for a Mac.
last time i used a mac i got a virus from viewing porn, so i do believe there are viruses for the mac

Wait til Virtual Chatot and Gerri get here to point out all the good things about mac. And all that stuff you mentioned like with Videos, etc. IT'S CALLED ILIFE!
idle threats are stupid and won't gain any respect

Get a Mac. They may seem more expensive but to make a PC as good as a Mac it will end up costing the same or more than a mac. If you are on a budget get the Mac Mini, if you have enough money go for the iMac. If you do need to run Windows for any reason, you can run it in parallels, and in bootcamp. Not to mention that Windows runs so much better on a Mac than it does on a PC. I opened up Windows XP in parallels yesterday and it was ready to use in 15 seconds. I personally would get an iMac, and think about it like this, if you ever move, its just one pretty small box compared to like 3 or 4 giant boxes for the monitor, tower, printer, and all that other crap that isn't built into a tower.

yes, but thats most likely because it wasn't from a cold boot up, your apple fanboyism is ultimately stupid and makes people pity you for joining a stupid fad, you're worse than an otaku right now

anyway, IMO I prefer Windows over Mac, mainly because I can right click because I love some of the stuff it gets and the Mac doesn't get, honestly I can't see myself without addons and that for WLM, plus windows gets whatever job i need done, done

It's not that you can't get viruses, its extremely hard to them though. Only doing something stupid, like viewing porn for instance, would the chance for getting a virus increase.

I don't really see how its a threat, he was just noting that me and Gerri and big Mac fans, and we know alot them :S

I could say the same thing about you, but that wouldn't be fair.

You can right click? I'm confused

That's exactly what I said though, if you look closely at the post to you are referring you would see that you are saying the exact same thing I am.

I wouldn't call you a 'Mac fan' as much as I'd call you an idiot. But that's just my opinion.
The only one of you that has written anything useful is Gerri.

Just... shut up. You're making yourself (and any other person using a Mac) look like idiots.

You can only get viruses the same way as you've described getting them in OS X. :/

Proper "geeks" would likely be classed as linux users, somewhere in the middle is windows users so that would mean.. mega idiots use what remains.

  • What I beleive from my experience

Now look. Before I say anything, I want you to know that I do not hate PCs and that I do not love macs. I can honestly admit that I am a total computer geek. I'm only in Grade 6 at my school and I am system administrator for the computer lab at my school, created the console platform that the schools PCs run on, and am head of virus protection for the entire school! Now, My mum has a PC, My dad has a PC, I have 4 PCs (laptops) and my whole school (except for the headmaster and one teacher) run PCs. I work with both PCs and Macs almost every day. I have a mac in the classroom that I use just for myself, And I can honestly say, from experience that a Mac, running on OS X Leopard or Tiger runs faster, does more, is more reliable and looks better than any PC you'll come across today. I am not a mac fan, I am not a PC fan but I honestly believe, from experience, that a Macintosh computer is better than a Personal Computer.

If you are going to run a PC, don't get Vista. If you want a good look, get Ubuntu. If you want functionality and compatibility (with a PC) run windows xp. Otherwise do the smart thing and get a mac!

Ubuntu is a horrible platform especially saying that it looks 'nice', and Vista works great. Maybe you should learn more about computers, trial and error.

Thats something called "Who cares about macs. They suck so hard."
And why would I get a virus on my system? Where am I getting it from?
People who get viruses are the people who download anything without knowing what it is they are downloading.

  • Ok, here's what I have to say. I do not hate Macs, I do not hate PCs. Macs are actually very productive computers. What I DO hate is Mac fanboys and their little "cults". That's what I hate. They are stuck up, obnoxious people, who feel since they own a Mac, they are "higher class". They are always trying to Brainwash people trying to make them switch over, which is just dumb. A Computer is a tool used to communicate with others and/or perform special tasks. It's not something to be proud about.

I'm a PC user, am I a geek? No, I use a computer basically for the reasons other people do. To browse the World Wide Web, listen to music, communicate with friends, and have a good time. There are people who use PCs to create documents and or presentations, does that make them a "geek"? No it doesn't.

Don't get me wrong though, not all Mac fanboys/users are obnoxious or annoying. Take Gerri for instance. He's not rude nor obnoxious, he's very nice, productive, and also has very outstanding skills in digital art.

But some Mac fanboys/users are obnoxious, take Apple Inc (Garfieldlover94) for instance, he obviously was getting offended earlier about people "talking about Macs". Which I find very pointless, his obsession with Mac, let alone Apple as a company is just sick. I mean he changed his name to "Apple Inc.", and when he uses Windows Live Messenger his display name is "Steve Jobs". These "cults" are just ridiculous.

I am not saying telling people to switch over to PCs or switch over to Macs, I am just doing what a normal person would do in this situation; express their opinions.

  • I have a Vista Ultimate x64 PC running a Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, four gigs of ram, a 500GB raid0 array, and an 8800gts. Runs everything I've thrown at it, up to and including graphics-intensive games and photo editing software.

    I'm satisfied.

  • Mac is well known for not allowing any virus inside the cpu. It's what I like about Mac for that. However, if you know how to keep cpu clean from "the virus world" and know how to take care of it. Get PC!
Dunno how? Rookie? Get Mac. =]

  • I'm pretty much neutral on the subject. I use XP, which works fine for me. My friend has a Vista, but whenever I've used it at his house, it just seems to... not work. :/

My uncles are rabid Mac fans, however. Although I'm not sure why they are so obsessed with them. I do think that the Mac looks better than the PC, but I solved that with a Vista skin for my XP, at the cost of an extremely slow start up.

I do like the fact that you can use a program (I'm not sure what it is called) that allows you to run a PC inside the Mac, which seems extremely useful and pretty much the best of both worlds.

Not allowing any virus inside the CPU? What the hell? Mac's get viruses just like PCs. There are just fewer of them! ;)
