Ive been playing Pokemon since Blue and Red, but this is the first time I have explored the metagame. Like many, with the ease of EV training now with super training, and breeding getting easier, I wanted to put together a competitive team. Ive just completed my first team, battled in single matches only (kinda bummed you cant go 6 vs 6, only 3 vs 3) with mixed results. I really know nothing about battles, dont know what OU UU PU whatever the hell it is are, dunno whats banned, just made a team of Pokes Ive either never or rarely used. Heres what I got

Gengar w/ Mega Stone Lv. 100 (Levitate) (Shadow Tag)
Timid 31/x/31/31/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Sp. Att)
    Moves: Sludge Bomb/Dazzling Gleam/Shadow Ball/Confuse Ray

Mawile w/ Mega Stone Lv. 100 (Hyper Cutter) (Huge Power)
Adamant 31/31/31/x/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Att)
    Moves: Sucker Punch/Swagger/Iron Head/Play Rough

Hawlucha w/ Fist Plate Lv. 100 (Limber)
Jolly 31/31/31/x/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Att)
Moves: Power Up Punch/High Jump Kick/Flying Press/Sky Attack

Absol w/ Scope Lens Lv. 100 (Super Luck)
Adamant 31/31/31/x/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Att)
    Moves: Slash/Stone Edge/Psycho Cut/Night Slash

Volcarona w/ Rocky Helmet Lv. 100 (Flame Body)
Timid 31/x/31/31/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Sp. Att)
    Moves: Fiery Dance/Fire Blast/Bug Buzz/Quiver Dance

Hydreigon w/ Dragon Fang Lv. 100 (Levitate)
Docile 25/31/31/31/31/31 (EV: Max Speed, even distribution for the rest)
    Moves: Draco Meteor/Thunder Wave/Outrage/Earthquake

    I also have:

Shiny Metagross Lv. 74 (Clear Body)
Adamant 31/31/31/x/31/31 (EV: Max Speed and Att)
    Moves: Meteor Mash/Hammer Arm/Giga Impact/Zen Headbutt

Ive tried to get a 5 IV Khangaskhan as well, but I need a better male breeding partner, got a Trick Room version, Adamant with 31/31/31/x/31/0 spread, Lv. 24, Not yet EV trained.

So, any suggestions for those in my team? Maybe some of them are trash and I need a new Pokemon in its place. Suggestions for moves, hold items, etc. all greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also, my FC is in my sig, add me if you wanna battle, I nearly rage quit a random online battle when a Cranidos was using Earthquake before my Gengar moved.......that just cant be right.

  • No need to say IVs here, mate.

Take note that Gengarite is banned in OU. Make do with regular Gengar:
    -Shadow Ball
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast
    -Thunderbolt/Destiny Bond
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb

    or
    -Shadow Ball
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast
    -Trick/Hidden Power (Ice)/Thunderbolt
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Scarf

Swagger is a terrible move competitively, unless it's used by Liepard or Klefki, due to their Prankster ability. Setting up Swagger is risky for Mega Mawile, even with its increased Defense. It also needs Sucker Punch to compensate for its bad Speed. Intimidate also gives regular Mawile more breathing room to Mega Evolve and set up:
    -Play Rough
    -Sucker Punch
    -Fire Fang/Iron Head/Swords Dance
    -Swords Dance/Substitute
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 124 HP/252 Atk/132 Spe
    Item: Mawilite
    Ability: Intimidate

Absol is only good in its Mega form. Since your Mega slot is taken up by Mawile (only 1 Pokemon can Mega Evolve per battle), you have to replace Absol with something else. Bisharp, Mandibuzz or Greninja do nicely:

    Bisharp:
    -Sucker Punch
    -Iron Head
    -Knock Off/Night Slash
    -Swords Dance/Substitute
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 124 HP/252 Atk/132 Spe
    Item: Dread Plate/Black Glasses/Life Orb
    Ability: Defiant

    Mandibuzz:
    -Foul Play
    -Taunt
    -Roost
    -Defog/Toxic/Whirlwind
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 248 HP/216 Def/44 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Overcoat

    Greninja:
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Dark Pulse/U-turn
    -Ice Beam/U-turn
    -Hidden Power (Fire)/Grass Knot/Extrasensory
    Nature: Timid/Hasty
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Expert Belt
    Ability: Protean

    or
    -Spikes
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Ice Beam/Extrasensory/Dark Pulse
    -Hidden Power (Fire)/U-turn/Taunt
    Nature: Timid/Hasty
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Focus Sash

Currently, Hawlucha is terrible because of the lack of Flying Gem. If I were you, I'd put the Metagross in its place:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Meteor Mash
    -Earthquake
    -Bullet Punch/Pursuit/Trick
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef
    Item: Leftovers/Iron Ball
    Ability: Clear Body

    or
    -Meteor Mash
    -Earthquake
    -Zen Headbutt/Bullet Punch
    -Pursuit/Ice Punch/Thunder Punch
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef
    Item: Assault Vest
    Ability: Clear Body

I wouldn't use both Fiery Dance and Fire Blast together on Volcarona. I don't think Rocky Helmet is a good item on it either, as it's physically frail (though Flame Body can surprise contact physical attackers):
    -Quiver Dance
    -Fire Blast/Fiery Dance
    -Bug Buzz
    -Hidden Power (Ground)/Giga Drain/Psychic
    Nature: Timid/Modest
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry
    Ability: Flame Body

Hydreigon has a wide offensive move pool. You're not taking advantage of it at all:
    -Draco Meteor
    -Dark Pulse
    -Iron Tail/Superpower/Flash Cannon
    -Fire Blast/Roost
    Nature: Rash/Mild/Modest
    EVs: 40 Atk/236 SAtk/232 Spe or 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb

    or
    -Draco Meteor
    -Dark Pulse
    -Flash Cannon
    -Earth Power/Fire Blast
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Specs

    or
    -Draco Meteor
    -Dark Pulse
    -Fire Blast
    -U-turn
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 32 HP/252 SAtk/224 Spe
    Item: Choice Scarf

Kangaskhan is only good in its Mega form, but its Mega Stone (Kangaskhanite) is banned in OU. You could do regular Kangaskhan, but in the end, don't bother with it until Kangaskhanite is somehow unbanned. It's also too fast for Trick Room.

Regarding your battle, Cranidos had Mold Breaker, which bypassed Gengar's Levitate. It could also be carrying a Choice Scarf to patch up its terrible Speed.

Damn, thought I was being slick with a super critical absol. Boo. Lol thanks for the advice, I've taken notes. I'm gonna have to breed a whole new hydregion, but I was thinking of switching him out, too many weaknesses. So what do you prefer for a dragon type? Not fond of garchomp, seems like everyone I battle has one, lol

If you didn't go with Defog Mandibuzz, you need a Rapid Spinner on the team to clear away entry hazards. Starmie or Excadrill can do that for you:

    Starmie:
    -Hydro Pump/Surf
    -Psyshock/Thunderbolt
    -Ice Beam
    -Rapid Spin
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
    Ability: Natural Cure

    or
    -Scald
    -Rapid Spin
    -Psyshock/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt
    -Recover
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 248 HP/32 Def/4 SAtk/224 Spe
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Natural Cure

    Excadrill:
    -Earthquake
    -Rock Slide/Iron Head
    -Rapid Spin
    -Stealth Rock/Swords Dance
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Chople Berry/Air Balloon
    Ability: Mold Breaker

    or
    -Earthquake
    -Iron Head
    -Rock Slide/X-Scissor/Shadow Claw
    -Rapid Spin
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Scarf
    Ability: Mold Breaker

    or
    -Earthquake
    -Iron Head
    -Rock Slide/Shadow Claw
    -Rapid Spin
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 248 HP/136 Atk/24 SDef/100 Spe
    Item: Assault Vest
    Ability: Mold Breaker

For a non-Garchomp Dragon to replace Hydreigon, you have two options: Goodra and Noivern. The former is an excellent special tank, while the latter is a fast scout:

    Goodra:
    -Draco Meteor
    -Fire Blast/Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt/Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Modest/Quiet/Sassy
    EVs: 248 HP/252 SAtk/8 SDef
    Item: Choice Specs/Leftovers/Assault Vest
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

    or
    -Dragon Pulse
    -Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt/Focus Blast
    -Toxic/Dragon Tail
    Nature: Calm/Sassy
    EVs: 248 HP/8 Def/252 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper

    Noivern:
    -Draco Meteor
    -Flamethrower
    -Focus Blast
    -Switcheroo/U-turn/Hurricane
    Nature: Naive/Timid
    EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Specs
    Ability: Frisk/Infiltrator

    or
    -Draco Meteor
    -Flamethrower
    -Focus Blast
    -U-turn/Roost
    Nature: Naive/Timid
    EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Frisk/Infiltrator

Actually I plan to use Mandibuzz, I like dark types, and pokemon I have never used, so that will be perfect. As far as dragons, I was thinking of Noivern or dragonite, so Noivern it is. Thanks a ton, I got work to do.

Ive had a chance to battle and I like this team, my one gripe is the choice specs on noivern, I find it to be very limiting. Should I just switch it out more or perhaps go for a different item? I have a life orb on Gengar already.

The point of Choice Pokemon is to get in, hit the switch-in and get out. Also, item clause (when each Pokemon has to hold a unique item) isn't applied in simulator battles. It's only applied in battles that use the level 50 rule or VGC battles.

Early-game, Noivern is supposed to scout for checks/counters with U-turn. On a predicted switch, Noivern can use U-turn, then have an appropriate teammate deal with the opposing threat.
